Pointless Christmas themed stuff

Each year, retailers bring out more Christmas themed stuff, mainly everyday stuff. Use this thread to post what is the most pointless thing, in your opinion you have seen with Christmas stuff on it.

I will start - The Range sell a dustpan and brush set with Christmas stuff on. Home Bargains - a ceramic soap dispenser shaped as a bauble with Merry Christmas on it.

I need those binbags 😍

Notyouthful · 25/11/2025 21:50

Tea towels - I accept as my parents had them for at least 40 years. Only get used at Christmas. They keep them in the boxes with the decs

I do the bathroom sets and the soap dispensers, the kids love it and it does brighten up the bathroom. Also have the Christmas doormat although tbf that's been out all year 😅 Have got Christmas bedding for kids this year, got it from Vinted so not expensive. I did see a Christmas washing up sponge in B&M but sadly didn't get it! We store our stuff in the loft.

We have Christmas crockery stored in the dining room that will come out on December 1st. Bought in Morrisons over 10 years ago. Christmas cushions are stored in the loft along with Christmas blankets (we have a cold house). Current cushions and blankets get put back up in the loft in the empty Christmas decoration boxes. I buy Christmas scented hand wash every year which gets used until it runs out. Also buy Christmas loo roll. I remember my mother buying Christmas loo roll and towels when I was a young teen which is over 40 years ago so this is not a new thing.

Inspired by this thread I have ordered some Christmas cushion covers, tea towels and mugs.
Thanks OP.

I love Christmas so was hoping this thread would give me some ideas and inspiration of more tat to add to my collection .... but it seems i already have at least one of everything mentioned except the netball and the gingerbread rat..... both of which i can probably live without.

All our tat is stored in a double garage. Nothing ever gets thrown out .... although hubby has sneakily rehomed 3 of our (many!) christmas trees. Currently considering whether our garden is too windy for a 12 foot inflatable santa ... and if not, whether i should get the 12 foot inflatable elf too. 😁

TroysMammy · 25/11/2025 22:46

I don't buy Christmas stuff and I don't even have a tree but I do have Grinch socks and a black and white Bah! Humbug hat.

TroysMammy · 25/11/2025 22:47

I also have a Grinch mug in work only to be used in December.

FlyingPandas · 25/11/2025 23:05

Not the point of the thread - or maybe it is? - but I've just spent the last ten minutes hopefully but fruitlessly searching online for Christmas pudding binbags. Sold out everywhere, sadly. They look fab!

I think it will probably be easier all-round if @SheinIsShite gives us a list of permitted items, then we can check against our stocks (because I certainly won't be buying anything new this year) and use accordingly.

I wonder if she has more than one pair if knickers? If anything more than the one your using us eat, surely she only has 1 of everything?

Most excellent. I do love it when a sneery thread turns out nice 🌲🎅🏼

We are working our way up to having a Christmas Crockery set; Plate, bowl, mug each. But we go to a local pottery shop and each paint our own every year, we used to do baubles but the tree is too laden now so we have moved on. The things will be used while the Christmas tree is up and then carefully packed away for next year. We intend on keeping them forever.

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 25/11/2025 23:53

SheinIsShite · 25/11/2025 19:17

It is tat because it is additional plastic shite. You already (presumably) have a soap dispenser, you do not need a second one to use for a few weeks in the year. Ditto another dustpan and brush, curtains, loo seat etc etc etc.

We get through dustpan and brush sets quite regularly. Along with the endless daily sweeping-up of scattered cat litter, we also use them in the garden a lot and I have a hobby that causes a fair bit of mess too. Having one with a random festive pattern on it would just brighten up a dreary task. It won't go to waste.

What bothers me is the staggering array of plastic baubles and tinsel and those elf on the shelf fuckers. How many times does anyone ever need to buy new tinsel? Some of mine must be 50 years old.

Mine were from Wilko many years ago so I’m no help sorry (although I do believe they sell some wilko stuff in the range)

Notyouthful · 26/11/2025 06:26

It’s the ugly Gonks and Elf on the Shelf stuff i find creepy and crap.

A few years ago I was in Sainsburys and bought a pack of 5 knickers for about £1.50 as one of the pairs had Xmas themed stuff on it. The other four - two are plain and the others have stars on them. Nobody is going to see me that I was wearing Xmas themed knickers outside Dec.

Oooh, I forgot my favourite chuck-away every Christmas.
We get a colour-in, paper tablecloth.

We are all adults now, and only have adults round as our families are at the too old for kids, to young for grandkids stage.

There are always a few moments when some people want some peace, need a little mental health, me-time boost. Everyone has a bit of a colour in at some point. We take a photo every year after new year - we are getting much more artistic!

Can heartily recommend it. (Even though it gets binned every year)

John Lewis 😱
I thought they only sold posh stuff.....none of that plastic tat.
Shocking. Absolutely shocking.
(SARCASTIC 😂😂😂)

BeanQuisine · 26/11/2025 10:55

There was no Elf on the Shelf in my childhood and no kids remain in my family to be haunted by those fuckers, so that's one species of tat I've never had to experience.

I upgraded my tree decorations a few years ago, have bought nothing Christmas-themed since. At least nothing that can't be eaten.

I think I win this thread.

Christmas pudding themed bin bags. Because why not?

Edited

I think these are fair enough - as they are intended to be thrown away so not additional bits and bobs that either need storing for a year, or chucking. The same for Christmas themed loo roll.

Yep😂😂😂

12 quid for 6😲l looked last night.

OopOop · 26/11/2025 13:15

Only if it’s thrown away.
I have a Christmas doormat, Christmas bedding, Christmas soap dispenser etc. When not in use it’s all stored in the loft, alongside all my other Christmas decorations (and other seasonal things such as suitcases, summer clothes in winter etc). We’ve had it all for at least 8 years, and no plans to replace any of it any time soon.

ETA apologies, I meant to quote a post saying ‘pointless landfill’.

Oh dear! John Lewis that's downright greedy!

I might have considered them as a gift for DSIS if they were under a tenner but 12 quid...nope.

don't like my sister and bin bags would have been a perfect gift
