A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@EmeraldRoulette my nephew I'm ashamed to say is one of those swanning about whilst on PIP. He does have a genuine medical condition but it does NOT prevent him from doing anything. He has a car and drives around quite happily, he's been on several holidays abroad this year.

And yet he told the PIP assessor on the phone that he can't leave the house because of his condition.

He's 20. His parents both work in the public sector and always feel hard done by. His younger brother is a NEET although not on benefits as far as I know. He's DHs brother's son and it's hard to believe DH and his brother grew up in the same family.

DH is an additional rate taxpayer and it's hard to take that he does a stressful job and pays thousands in tax only for it to go straight into the pockets of my nephew and others like him. The system needs a complete shake up, PIP assessments must be done in person and there should be spot checks on people who claim to be unable to function and passport tracking. If he wasn't my nephew I'd report him.

I agree. People claiming generous PIPs should 100% be subject to passport tracking. It’s amazing that this doesn’t happen already.

Good morning…

It’s deliberate at this point. Why would you attack pensions which not only support investment but ease long term burdens. Then increase welfare but promise reform. The markets know Labour can’t get welfare reform through. Are the deliberately trying to crash the economy by increasing debt interest?

My view? They are simply implementing policies which they believe will ensure they govern in perpetuity.

That, combined with spite and incompetence.

The UK will simply have to accept that everyone will be poorer.

It would be counter to the right to freedom of movement.

Not that the Government hasn't ripped up rights before, mind, when it's suited them.

I am a strong believer in welfare as a safety net. But it's absolutely out of control now, and yes YY as others have said about 0% benefit fraud.

I'm pretty sure you're only allowed out of the country for 28 days at a time on most benefits. Anyone breaching that is at risk of losing their benefits.

EasternStandard · 24/11/2025 07:16

Why are they so shite. Listening to ‘doubling down’ on getting growth etc and lower debt. Whilst hammering growth and increasing debt.

Why the lies?

Rivalled · 24/11/2025 07:35

And that’s why nobody trusts politicians - because of the constant dishonesty about the impact of what they’re doing.

£15bn!!!! I swear I just read an article in the Times yesterday where Rachel said she wanted to make work pay and that people were in a benefits trap. Did she have a complete change of mind overnight?

I keep telling my husband about all of this and this morning he said to me why do you care? He’s not British and didn’t grow up there - it was the place for a great finance career and so lots of Europeans came - and of course lots have now left. But it’s my country and I’m just bloody horrified. And yes on the other thread we make people feel physically sick and no doubt if we ever go back to the UK we should not be allowed to use the NHS despite paying 45% income tax on high incomes all our lives in the UK because we had the greed to leave. We have paid multiples of our average lifetime cost to the government already! And if we come back then we will again be paying 45%! And it’s not going to get better because people that think that we can just print more money and just give everyone a sack of cash and therefore eradicate poverty and all the ills of the world are able to vote!

But you’ve been very clear that one of the pros of being in Dubai is not paying tax!!

Just ignore that stuff. People are realising they messed up when they were certain no one would go if Labour put in bad policy.

They are oddly annoyed now and think no one should go anywhere. It’s madness. Really they’re cross at themselves for being duped and having to fill the gap which they were sure wouldn’t happen.

You just happen to talk about your situation and as with mn people need someone to throw some buns at.

But how would the DSS know, if my friend isnt required to attend reassessment for another year? She’s been gone ten weeks atm but intends to stay most of next year.

they wouldn’t know unless said claimant is picked up randomly for an audit

or reported

then full investigation

Good morning…

The 'how the welfare state ends' is where we are now.. but there's another scene to go.

The last picture has a couple of the people who were previously pulling collapsed on the ground, and the rest of them walking away. The people in the now-stationary cart angrily saying 'hang on! What now?' then reluctantly hopping off and walking... leaving the old couple and the mum with the baby from the first picture abandoned and stuck.

Hearing on the news that Reeves is being urged to change her budget to concentrate on growth. Probably a bit late for that though.

Yes. But we are also not accessing the services in the UK. Services in Dubai we have to pay for. When we/if we do go back to the UK we will be accessing the services and paying 45% tax. We will never be accessing services in the UK without paying for them. And to be honest we will never be accessing many services - private education, private healthcare etc.

FFS, surely it should be a done deal by now. How shit do you have to be to have not sorted the budget 2 days before delivering it? #rhetoricalquestion

So don’t come back to the uk 🤷‍♀️

@Woollyguru you could report him. Surprised we actually have a case of the PIP fraud which is only 1%

@percypiggy200 just ignore the nonsense.
