Yep, been listening to The Stone Roses since I heard at about 6pm. Am amazed there wasn't a thread or more people commenting! Are we the only gen x indie ravers left?!

TooBigForMyBoots · 21/11/2025 00:31

I came on and did a search for Mani and got a load of threads about fingernails.

I'm saddened that there's only four of us here to whom Mani's life meant so much, but am I surprised? I'm not sure - I've never been part of the largest flock and I'm perfectly happy with that.

What a phenomenal bassist and what a charming man! He kicked the arse out of life, that's for sure!

Apileofballyhoo · 21/11/2025 01:39

Oh God, I'm so sad to see this. His kids are only young.

Theyreeatingthedogs · 21/11/2025 01:40

Very sad. His wife died two years ago. Their son's are only 12.

showyourquality · 21/11/2025 01:43

DH mentioned this had happened, very sad.

TooBigForMyBoots · 21/11/2025 02:10

I saw Stone Roses back in 1990. Mani's bass was so distinctive.

So sad for his children.Sad

BlueEyedBogWitch · 21/11/2025 03:44

I hope those kids have family around to scoop them up.

RIP Mani 💔

I love the look of delight that he and Reni share about 50 seconds into this, when the Roses are playing Waterfall for the first time in 15 years, having got back together when no one believed they ever would. For me it completely captures the magic of this band and the beauty of what they gave to all of us.

And so, so sad for his young sons.

ProfessorRizz · 21/11/2025 04:45

I must admit I thought there would be more Roses fans on Mumsnet. Mani and Reni were very underrated musicians, they knew how to build a groove. Primal Scream also upped their game when he joined.

RIP Mani 😢

totalrocket · 21/11/2025 04:52

RIP Mani. Their poor sons.

CherryRipe1 · 21/11/2025 04:52

I'm a Stone Roses fan, really sad news, poor kids, I didn't realise they were so young. RIP Mani

SquatBetty · 21/11/2025 04:54

Another son of Manchester gone too soon. Loved the Roses back in the day. Had the misfortune of seeing their terrible appearance at Reading in 1996 but then the utter joy of their reunion gigs at Heaton Park in 2012. I hope Mani's boys have a lot of love and a strong family unit surrounding them.

RIP Mani

PumpkinTwistyWindToots · 21/11/2025 05:08

RIP :(

springintoaction2 · 21/11/2025 05:09

Thanks for posting video of 'Waterfall' - classic tune.

RIP Mani

BastardtheCat · 21/11/2025 05:31

Waking up to this sad news. Utterly gutted and filled with sadness for their boys. I also hope that they have a wonderful family around them to love and support them.

The opening bass line to She bangs the drums is phenomenal. Loved Stone Roses since I was a teen. I often play them in school and my Year 11 lads love them too.

RIP Mani.

Shedmistress · 21/11/2025 05:34

Still a regular play in our house. His basslines were legend. RIP Mani.

thebear1 · 21/11/2025 07:55

The sound of my youth, still listen to. RIP.

Sourisblanche · 21/11/2025 07:58

I was playing Waterfall to my teens only recently. Went to see The Stone Roses play in the 90’s. Very sad news.

QuidNuncy · 21/11/2025 07:59

So young to die. Dp woke me up to tell me (he’s the bigger fan). He said they had only just announced a tour.

JurgenKloppsTeeth · 21/11/2025 08:05

We were just reminiscing about dancing to them at our teenage parties and nightclubs. Gone far too soon and am holding his boys in my thoughts today.

PowerTulle · 21/11/2025 08:07

An absolute legend. So sad. Love The Stone Roses and Primal Scream, still play the albums and I have teens now. I keep reading about what a lovely genuine man he was too.

Candleabra · 21/11/2025 08:10

Big fan and gutted to hear this. He always seemed such a nice man. Terribly sad for their young boys who have lost both parents now. Just tragic news.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 21/11/2025 08:11

Another Stone roses fan here. A later one as i was pretty young when they first were around. I discovered them through my love of britpop and indie as an older teen mid to late 90s.. Did finally see them on the reunion tour. It was a conversation tour he had announced: it was massive!

Those basslines. He was brilliant with primal scream too. Never heard a bad word about him. Saw him at Blackpool pleasure beach having a ball the day after a Charlatans gig we were all at. ( saw him at the after show).

Upsetting to know his boys have lost their dad and mum in a two year period.

TennisWithDeborah · 21/11/2025 08:19

DP and I were really unsettled by this news. We’re both big fans. “She Bangs the Drums” is in my top ten. “Waterfall” is his favourite.

Mani seemed so amiable and cheerful too. A super guy, as well as cool and talented.

I feel terrible for his twin boys.
