Provided the bass line to my youth. RIP.

I saw them in the 90s then at the Heaton Park reunion and that was the only gig I’ve ever been to where every riff turned into a singalong. The guitar and bass on those tracks are just immense. RIP Mani

I was a fan from 1990. Played their album so much as a teen. Only time i saw them was their terrible appearance at Reading Festival. Can't say I knew much about Mani but reading the tributes he sounded like a great guy. So tragic for his two young sons.

Sallycinnamum · 21/11/2025 22:15

Well, as you can tell by my username, massive Roses fan and actually shed a few tears yesterday.

Wanted to go to Spike Island but my dad wouldn't let me so had to do with seeing them in Finsbury Park in 2013. Still rates as one of the best gigs me and DH have ever been to.

Just really shit news. His poor sons being orphaned at such a young age too.

ZenNudist · 21/11/2025 22:20

I love the stone Roses
Missed them when the first album was released but went to see them at the Manchester Apollo when they toured second coming.

I am the resurrection is my favourite song. I love everything on their first Album. Missed em when they did Heaton park in 2015.

Gutted for his kids

Maryberrysbouffant · 21/11/2025 22:26

Very sad news indeed…love the Roses. Poor boys being orphaned at 12 😔

healthyteeth · 21/11/2025 22:51

Such sad news. Sad about Mani, for his boys, for the music world and for my youth. It’s brought such emotions up.

Danced around my kitchen today (& cried a bit) to songs from their first album The Stone Roses and also The Second Coming. First album I was 14 and I remember clearly the exact moment I first heard Fools Gold at a party. I was hooked. I lived near Manchester and the scene was ELECTRIC in 89. Later in 94 they released Second Coming and it didn’t disappoint. The track ‘Tears’ got me today 😭
They don’t make music like that anymore. Can’t not mention Primal Scream. Also bloody brilliant.

Rest In Peace Mani RKid 🎸 🍋 🥀 🕊️

RIP Mani 💔

I love the look of delight that he and Reni share about 50 seconds into this, when the Roses are playing Waterfall for the first time in 15 years, having got back together when no one believed they ever would. For me it completely captures the magic of this band and the beauty of what they gave to all of us.

And so, so sad for his young sons.

Thank you for sharing this. It keeps catching me in my throat - his impish delight is infectious. 🥲

RIP Mani x

A huge Stone Roses fan here. Saw Mani play (twice when the Roses reunited and a good few times with Primal Scream).

Was absolutely gutted to hear the news. Its the end of an era I feel.

I met him once after a gig and he put me and my friends on the guest list for the following night's gig. He was really friendly and we couldn't believe he remembered to do it!

It is so sad. His poor boys x

I highly recommend listening to Nick Grimshaw's Radio 6 show from Fri morning at 7:30am, plays 1st album in full, really nice tributes from Nick and fans.

TwoLeggedGrooveMachine · 22/11/2025 08:46

At last, a thread for the Stone Roses fans. I bought the album on cassette from Woolworths in the small Cornish town where I lived in early 1990. Based on an NME review. I was 16 and had been bullied at school, lacking in confidence, and quite depressed really, I was discovering music in a big way and it was a huge comfort. Lying in my bed with the Stone Roses blasting through my Walkman. I became an indie kid and started finding my people. I love a good baseline and the Stone Roses album has the best.

Only last weekend I was at Butlins for an indie weekender singing along to the Clone Roses in a packed venue. Never saw them for real. We were knackered and broke with small children when they reformed.

You've hit the nail on the head here. It's the nostalgia for our youth isn't it?

I was lucky enough to work with the Roses from '93-'96 and passed up a few big career-progressing job offers waiting for the Second Coming to be released - a decision which undoubtedly had a lasting impact on my overall career - but have never regretted it. It was a moment in time that cannot be matched for me.

Some of their gigs were like religious mass euphoria (despite Ian's best efforts some nights!)

Mani was just an adorably silly, smiling puppy of a man and very cuddly to all when he was off his tits - so that was most of the time 😄

Sigh...

Aurora2023 · 22/11/2025 15:49

Lifelong fan here. Sleep well lovely Mani 🍋💔

PGmicstand · 22/11/2025 15:52

I've only just caught up. How sad. What a grear.musician he was.

GlosGirl82 · 22/11/2025 15:55

Can’t tell you want the Stone Roses mean to me. I saw them in New York - Maddison Square Garden - it aaa so sweet at the end they hugged and you could tell that it was such a big deal for them to play there. Interestingly - I asked other attendees how they knew about them as a band - met loads of Aussies who had worked with British students back in the day who had taken cassette tapes of the band to Australia - old skool way to share music internationally! RIP Mani xxxx

toucancancan · 22/11/2025 17:13

🍋🥹 so incredibly sad. What a beautiful, magical time they gave us - we were lucky to be young teenagers during a very special moment ❤️ .

InterloperMum · 22/11/2025 17:33

Yes @toucancancan let's be thankful for the good times and memories.

Having said that, I'm still so sad. Have to hold back the tears whilst listening to their tunes.

AGlessandahalf · 22/11/2025 19:01

Devastated in this house and have had Stone Roses on all week. Was planning on getting DH ticket for Mani’s tour as part of Xmas pressie.

we have stone roses art work on the wall - proud Manc family here.

Been thinking of the boys for the last two days

staringatthesun · 23/11/2025 13:04

Such sad news. The SRs debut album takes me right back to a very specific and happy time in my life. One of the few albums that I listen to in it's entirety.
