Does anyone love their bedside table?

Having been searching for ages and not found anything that I really like. We have Ikea ones at the moment (improbably named Bjorksnas). They are OK but not inspiring. Has anyone found one they would recommend?

i hated most of the ones I could afford so in the end went for a circular copper metal plant stand (Homesense) which was nicer than the boring mdf boxes that are everywhere. Depends if you need more than something for a lamp and to test your phone tho as there’s no drawer obviously

We've got these ones from La Redoute, which we bought about 5 years ago because we couldn't find anything else that would fit into the narrow spaces either side of the bed - most bedside tables are at least 40cm wide. The drawer is handy, but what I really like about them is the cubby hole below it, which is where I keep and charge my phone and Kindle overnight. There's a hole drilled at the back of it, so you can run charging cables up the back and into the cubby hole.

Mine is a little antique chest of drawers - they are usually easy to pick up or find on ebay and they're often cheap because people don't want anything so small. Antique shops often have dinky little tables that are much less chunky-looking than modern furniture.

I spent so long finding some and ended up just buying them when I went home to the US. Some shipped to England which is good. I like big nightstands so I can fit a big lamp, books, flowers etc on plus room for phone and water
Links just for some inspo-

Marble topped
Wooden these are in our primary bedroom
black cane effect

I have two lovely antique ones with marble tops. I love them. They werent that expensive either.

scottishbythesea · 16/11/2025 14:05

Ooh - thanks for all of these. Glad it isn’t just me. I like your wooden one @FullOfMomsense- but I think too wide to have one either side in our room. And funnily enough @SarahAndQuackI have had a vague idea that I would find something nice at an antique shop for ages, but started this thread when I had to face up to the fact that wasn’t happening!

V much like the look of the LaRedoute one @mackerella. Was thinking of something larger, but in reality I just fill whatever is the available space with mostly unnecessary stuff. So maybe a small one would be fine.

Were those random finds @pumpkinscake?

I searched a good few places to find them

A plant stand is an interesting idea @WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady- if nothing else it opens up another internet rabbit hole to go down as have drawn a blank with bedside table searches!

@scottishbythesea have you tried etsy (cheaper) or selling antiques (more expensive!)?

scottishbythesea · 16/11/2025 14:35

I haven’t. Have a slightly negative impression of etsy, possibly unfairly and haven’t heard of selling antiques. Will have a look.

Yeah, etsy is definitely 'buyer beware'. I quite often look there then check out the seller's own website - but there is usually tons of stuff on there. Selling antiques has more quality control, but it isn't cheap.

We bought two from our local ressourcerie here in France. They're non matching but both similar to the photo (albeit a bit more battered). They were €5 each! If you're coming to France on holiday....

If you have a big Homesense (TK Maxx home) near you it’s worth popping in every so often as they sometimes have good options that are a bit different from the usual places.

Zara home is another one to look at.

Drachuughtty · 16/11/2025 16:11

I feel you OP!!

@mackerellaare you able to share the name of the La Redouye ones? I was looking for something like you described but the link doesn't work ( ad blocker). Are they a decent company in terms of delivery and putting the furniture together?

Missohnoyoubetterdont · 16/11/2025 17:21

Mine are vintage, one Lloyd loom ish from eBay and one mid century wooden one from Facebook marketplace

Oldgreeneyedone · 16/11/2025 17:28

I have an old rosewood engraved card table, from a boot sale bought nearly 20yrs ago.A bit wobbly but space for touch lamp, clock and a cup..Any bootsales near you?

Mauro711 · 16/11/2025 17:37

i got mine from Zara Home. They have some nice wooden ones, mid-century style.

Pennyfan · 16/11/2025 18:21

I bought some refurbished Stag bedside tables with a cubbyhole, drawers and best of all, a slide out tray for a morning cup of tea. Painted in a dark blue, they cost the same as the boxes from Dunelm etc but are a lot more solid and well made. On EBay and vintage-there is a whole industry refurbishing mid/late century Stag furniture.

Purplebunnie · 16/11/2025 18:27

Ours are custom made small 3 drawer pine chest of drawers. They were originally made to fit either side of a bay window but now fit perfectly as bedside tables. Quite a few places still seem to do custom furniture. Don't know how well pine paints though if you don't like pine

RollyPollyBatFace · 16/11/2025 18:36

I have the Tuscan spring ones in my bedroom and John Lewis Etienne oak ones in a spare room
