Are we ever going to find out who actually made the monumental fuck up? Rather than just a homogenous apology from the top.

Is this person/people still working for them?

I actually understand why Trump is doing this. You can't just let something so wrong pass by or they'll just keep doing it.

A composite image shows a picture of Trump in a blue suit and yellow tie on the left, and a picture of BBC offices in London on the right

Trump says he will sue BBC for at least $1bn over Panorama edit

The US president confirmed he intends to sue the broadcaster for at least $1bn over the Panorama edit of a 2021 speech.

It’s one part of the puzzle, yes. I’m not defending it either. Just curious to know whether people watched it at the time or whether they’re just jumping on a bandwagon now.

EasternStandard · 15/11/2025 10:09

Catsandcheese · 15/11/2025 10:05

You only have to watch Fiona Bruce on QT to understand the leaning of the BBC.
its not left leaning at all 😂.
Also, did anyone even watch the Panorama episode or have you all just jumped on this particular edited part?

Do you mean you think it’s right leaning?

SerendipityJane · 15/11/2025 10:09

Imdunfer · 15/11/2025 10:06

This has nothing to do with what Trump will do, except in the respect that it's remarkably stupid of our National broadcaster to have done a deliberately misleading edit on a man who we very much need, whether we like him or not, to be an ally.

It's entirely possible that Trump could threaten to "tariff the UK" to pursue this vendetta

I was always taught you stand up to bullies.

GB News lies because your indoctrinated children call their grandfather racist?

If you've seen so much of it, why not give us some examples of their lies?

It's people with a poor comprehension that they seem to appeal to.
Firstly, I haven't said it anywhere that they lie.
Secondly, I haven't said they’re my children.

The errors of judgement made by the BBC are conspicuous because they are the exceptions to the rule. People rightly expect the BBC to be impartial and it's headline news when they fail to live up to that expectation.

The bias on GB news is just constant and insidious. It isn't remotely newsworthy because nobody would ever expect them to produce high quality journalism. That is not what they are about.

Imdunfer · 15/11/2025 10:11

zazazaaarmm · 15/11/2025 09:54

Oh god I've had to endure it for longer as my FIL watches it all the time. It is such poor quality, biased rubbish.
It just riles him up and makes him even more frothy. He's not referred to as "racist grandad" by several.of his grandchildren for no reason.

GBNews doesn't claim to be unbiased in is own view. It is unashamedly right wing, it tells its viewers that repeatedly.

The problem is that the BBC is purporting to be reporting from a neutral stance when it is not.

And doing that paid for by a tax on the use of a TV no matter what you actually watch.

EasternStandard · 15/11/2025 10:13

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 15/11/2025 10:05

Obviously, they need to take action to protect their reputation. And there will be some damage done to that reputation by the stupid Panorama edit. However, I think the fact that a lot of people around the world do believe that Trump was responsible for the Jan 6 riots in any case, the damage will be mitigated.

The BBC absolutely misrepresented what Trump actually said, and that was bad. But overall, the Panorama programme didn't put forward a narrative that wasn't already out there, and that will potentially provide some mitigation.

That’s not a decent justification but it’s more that if the BBC can’t self assess they could lose what they need to survive.

It would be a shame for the last few o/s places that show them to switch to other stuff but it’s really within the BBC’s gift to look at institutionalised bias, including hiring and promotion.

In short they need to realise their problem first in order to survive.

PiccadillyPurple · 15/11/2025 10:13

I shall be deeply pissed off if my licence fee ends up in the pocket of that orange clown, Trump.

I'm not saying he hasn't got a point about the way he was edited, but it isn't worth $1 billion. He's like the sad face people in the Daily Mail who are suing Tescos for £50k because they bought a packet of stale crisps or something.

Daphnedaydream · 15/11/2025 10:14

AzurePanda · 15/11/2025 09:58

Quite obviously they didn’t but Antifa marches have involved extraordinary levels of violence and destruction of local businesses. And George Floyd marches saw 46 police offices killed and over 2,000 injured.

  1. That's some case of whatabouttery you've got going on there.
  1. I have no idea where you are even getting this information from. There are no sources to back up your information although I have found a fact check which calls it false along with sources which report that there was little orchestrated violence involved from "Antifa".

Can't help noticing that everyone who says that GB News lies / misleads its viewers all the time is yet to give one specific example of this

Bobbinog · 15/11/2025 10:16

AzurePanda · 15/11/2025 09:54

I have long thought the BBC had a bias problem (the trans issue and Woman’s Hour in particular) but I am so shocked by the reaction of so many BBC insiders to the dossier that I now think their situation is terminal. I can’t get my head around the minimising, obfuscating and whataboutery surrounding the egregious Trump edits. I’ll never trust them again.

I agree. Like you I've long seen bias at the BBC. I've even complained to them about it, with zero success. Then there are the presenter cover ups which don't sit comfortably with me.

What has come out over the past week and continues to come out about dodgy editing, bias etc is shocking. They are supposed to be impartial FGS. I can only assume the BBC thinks they're beyond reproach.

What concerns me now is what else are they editing? What hasn't been discovered yet? I can't imagine there won't be more to come out.

I still pay a licence fee because I watch a few programmes like Traitors and Gardeners World. I'm seriously considering stopping because I don't want to fund their idiocy or line Trumps pockets.

They won’t.

The fact is GB highlights stories which are unflattering to their worldview. They’re not inaccurate as such, they just consider it ‘right wing’ because they thing stories about eg immigrant rape are better left buried.

I agree. The BBC needs to be whiter than white.
The extreme right and extreme left both want to discredit the BBC as getting people to think everything is "fake news" means that they are much easier to manipulate to their agendas.
If the BBC does too many fuck ups it just plays into the extremists hands.
Most people know that other media such as GB News/Daily Mail/Morning Star are extremely biased and others such as The Times/The Guardian are pretty biased. There is so little middle ground, that we need a free, independent press. And the BBC should be the one providing it.

Pasly · 15/11/2025 10:20

It's a shame Trump doesn't show the same respect to the American people as he expects for himself. He lies daily to them yet is not held accountable at all despite being the President of the United States. The bbc made a huge mistake and massive editorial error in judgement. The director general and CEO of news put their hands up and resigned. Trump take their lead and acknowledge your own lies and how much you attempt to mislead and gaslight the American voter. Won't hold my breath though. Disgusting excuse for a human being

The BBC doesn't get it right all the time, but it gets complaints about bias from all perspectives. That suggests that it probably strikes the right balance a lot of the time.

GB News is unashamedly right wing. Nobody is arguing with that, they were merely pointing out the stupidity of a pp claiming that GB News tries to be balanced. That is patently not the case, and it is deeply concerning that anyone might think so.

I get that some people dislike the BBC because of the license fee, and I can understand that perspective, even though I'm happy to pay it myself. What I don't understand is the constant bleating about the BBC being left wing. The Director General who recently stood down was a former Tory candidate on multiple occasions, and a former Tory spin doctor is amongst the directors on its Board. Many of its well known staff are known to be right leaning.

I think it tries very hard to be neutral and impartial. Sometimes it gets that wrong - people are human and have their own biases, processes are often flawed. The BBC should absolutely learn from its mistakes and try to be better, but the portrayal of the BBC as being part of some sort of grand leftist conspiracy theory is just absurd.

This makes for a really interesting read and is also the messaging which comes from Reform which is why a majority of the population sees immigration as the biggest issue facing this country.

BBC are totally screwed and rightly so
Fake news by the world renowned BBC.

BBC is mostly geoblocked outside the UK. Iplayer anyway.

Some stuff is on US PBS tho.

So despite the fact that they have put together data, you wouldn't consider that data to be relevant because that doesn't suit your narrative.
Interesting.
