Well done Sara Cox and all the CIN walkers

Amazing effort from Sara Cox and all Children In Need walkers this year. Lindsay Burrow has carried on Rob’s legacy in fundraising with a ‘three-legged’ walk (tied together with a Look North presenter) across Yorkshire. Many more have done other impressive things (that I couldn’t do). I think they’re amazing.

Who is Sara? I thought mumsnet meant to be confidential? Uh oh

goldenskiesandsilverlarks · 14/11/2025 21:56

Now imagine if all of these multimillionaires donated some of their wealth instead of doing these performative challenges, making ordinary working people donate to them.

She’s a Radio 2 DJ who has been doing a very public running challenge for Children in Need for the last 5 days. No one’s anonymity has been blown!

How do you know she didn’t donate?

Oh please.

Like any of these self serving arseholes wouldn’t make a huge deal of it if they had donated?

😂 chip/shoulder/ millionaires - how many consecutive marathons have you done in 5 days?

Do we need another thread on this?

Zov · 14/11/2025 22:12

Yes, well done Sara! Smile

I used to work in a management agency. A lot of celebs do actually give a huge amount of time and money to charities. They don't always shout about it.

And why has she done them?

to get a pat on the back while she makes herself look good in the press, saying “she” has raised the money.

Silverbirchleaf · 14/11/2025 22:18

They’ve announced she has raised over nine million pounds. Wow!

After George Michael had died, it came out how much he had donated to charity, which no one knew about.

@goldenskiesandsilverlarks is Sara Cox a multi millionaire?

Her annual salary is around £320k a year. You’d hope she was, or she’s got an awful head on her shoulders.

I know, well deserved! Plus all the people doing smaller challenges across the country, good on them too. We had some come through our town and reception was lovely to see. Hope children in need do really well from these efforts - hospices, community initiatives, it’s really heartwarming to see charities benefit.

Because they’d all be announcing it

sittingonabeach · 14/11/2025 22:36

@goldenskiesandsilverlarks many celebrities/wealthy people don’t announce how much they donate. And if you expect them to donate a certain percentage of their money do you donate the same percentage?

I donate £100 out of my £1600 a month pay to causes close to my heart.

Nearly half of that will go in tax. Not that easy to become a millionaire on £180k per year.

And why is that relevant in any event. She has raised £9m for charity which otherwise would not have happened. Why do you have to denigrate her?

She hasn’t. The public have.

She was the catalyst: without her efforts that money would not have been raised. The reality is that many charities would be much worse off without this sort of event.

It is quite weird that you feel the need to chip away at her efforts and what she has achieved.

@goldenskiesandsilverlarks you’re struggling with the verb ‘raise’ which is not the same as ‘donate’. She’s done something impressive to raise the money, as have the other people I mentioned. Not donate, and that’s ok. The thread is not about what people donate individually or about millionaires
