Are there places women can go to have a break/ be looked after?

Burntout01 · 14/11/2025 21:23

I have come to the realization that I need to have a complete and total break from my real life, it will only be possible for a week due to my responsibilities so it needs to be really good and restorative, can anyone suggest anywhere? South West of Uk ideally.
must be comfortable, ‘normal’ type atmosphere so not religious. Single rooms, goid quality ideally vegetation food ( not a health farm). Treatments, peace and quiet, that sort of thing.
Any suggestions?

I know you're joking, but what an idea. You check in at a lovely comfy house. The housemum cooks you your favourite comfort meal. Makes you unlimited cups of tea, listens to your problems (doesntt judge). Lovely breakfasts any time you like. Have a run to town or whatever, get a spot of lunch. You can curl up with your favourite movie and a box of chocs. When you go, all your clothes are freshly washed and ironed. There's a box of freshly baked flapjack for the journey in your bag.
I'd go.

You obviously haven’t met my mother

Pack books and go
up the Scottish highlands. Get a little cottage on a loch some food and wine and switch ur phone off listen to the rain and chill tf out

I would love to do this especially as it's convenient for me but being in the highlands with a house full of family I still freaked out at night so I wouldn't get any rest at all doing this on my own 😅Its the dream though.

Have been reading the link and (unless you pay more) you are expected to share a room - that would not be on my list of ways to feel better at all!
(actually I see the OP has the budget to get her own room there)

Edited

I thought the same but, often, you end up with a room to yourself as no one has booked into the other bed/beds.

Also it really does attract like minded, calm and lovely women so sharing is absolutely fine. I can’t believe I’m saying that as it is something I thought I’d dread but there’s something about the dreaming. It feels like you’ve known the women there for forever within 24 hours. I’ve just been and most of the people have just booked to go back together.

A solo cruise would be a cheap option for this

Actually this is a good idea, I've just looked at Glasshouse , it's £480 ish for two people overnight and includes one treatment , obviously that will add up with more .

Cruise you;d get your own space , be well looked after , theres a Spa if you want but you could take loads of treatments .

I take all my odds and ends to use up if I'm in a hotel , I don't really want a big restaurant meal alone and I don;t drink .

Charlotte church’s place?

Sharpham? They have different levels of accommodation, may not be luxurious enough but is a retreat and total break.

Yes Sharpham are amazing, incredible veggie food. I've only done the summer woodland retreats, bit they have all sorts of options. Definitely felt so looked after and was the best break away from 'real life' while also equipping me with skills to return back to real life an bf retain the calm etc. Highly recommended.

PeonyBulb · 14/11/2025 23:09

Go to Charlotte Church’s retreat in Wales

rasnnz · 14/11/2025 23:10

I would just go to a hotel with nice food options nearby

I think a place designed to be a retreat would have other people there. Which I think I wouldn't want.

Huckleberries · 14/11/2025 23:12

I've often wondered if Ragdale Hall is worth that kind of money

Or any of those places really.

Aren't the common areas quite busy and noisy? So if you really need quiet, you're kind of stuck in your room. And everyone has a phone everywhere they go.

I had a special offer for Champneys a couple of years back and people were watching videos on their phones in the restaurant.

Don't laugh, but a number of nunneries and monasteries offer retreats for clapped-out members of the public. This monastery near my hometown includes women, so perhaps others do, too.

I grew up in the next village to Turners Hill!

Worth Abbey is a lovely place

Doobedobe · 14/11/2025 23:22

I went to an all abilities, all female yoga week once. Was absolute heaven. If you can find aoemthing like that. Yoga was just in the morning then different activities or time to yourself in the afternoon.

Hi Calm, no addiction issues thankfully. I’m completely burnt out ( due to my job, needs of family and chronic health issues.) i feel I need some sort of reset.

From what you’ve written, I wonder if what you could do with is similar to a convalescent home - the sort of place that used to be available but may not be now.

These might be the kind of place you mean. Haven't stayed at either, but been recommended (admittedly ages ago):

www.middlepiccadilly.com/

www.eastcottbarn.co.uk/

I had a wonderful few days in Middle Piccadilly years ago. There was a very gentle New Agey vibe, nothing weird, very peaceful and nourishing.

I would look for 'retreats' -- that word used to have religious connotations but there are now quite a few places that offer what you describe. Treatments would be more along the lines of massage and meditation, not eg beauty treatments or anything medical.

I looked up 'retreats UK' and got this AI summary. I'm copying it here with the reminder that AI frequently gets things wrong! But any of these suggestions may be worth looking up:

AI Overview

I remember, when my kids were young and I was working and still with my ex who was a giant baby burden, wishing I could just be in an accident, nothing fatal, but enough to keep me in hospital for a month so I could get a rest 😥

I hope you get the rest you need.

Ragdale Hall? It’s in Leicestershire, unlike a spa attached to a hotel it’s more of a retreat style spa. They park your car, check you in over a drink and you get breakfast in bed. Lovely grounds, treatments, spa area, classes/gym and meals are in a lovely dining room. Guests on their own can dine alone or choose to join a social table. Lots of places to relax, doze off with a book etc and they often have talks of an evening plus things like yoga/sound baths. Sounds exactly what you’re after. X

Okay sign me up, this sounds amazing

Britneyfan · 14/11/2025 23:51

I recommend looking for “wellbeing retreats” maybe. I have needed this sort of thing myself in the past, the best one I booked via this company;

https://www.wellbeingescapes.com/all-hotels/united-kingdom-l84?www.wellbeingescapes.com/?utm_source=pmax&utm_medium=click&utm_campaign=cross_network&utm_id=ads&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21510958716&gbraid=0AAAAAD-bo2PX5leOANUTvHki1zRfVt7L6&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9IPA3OXykAMV1ZFQBh1fETKdEAAYAiAAEgJ12vD_BwE

I went years ago to a place in Portugal but it was amazing. Definitely worth having a look here I think as it seems they also have U.K. options.

Have also stayed here with a friend for a weekend spa break package including dinner etc. and was very impressed.

https://www.rushtonhall.com

I haven’t stayed at Charlotte Church’s place yet but have discussed doing it with a friend sometime, so it’s good to hear good things about it. The shared rooms puts me off a bit too as does the general “woo” but I can live with a bit of woo especially if it’s optional and there are some less woo activities on offer too, if the place is nice and relaxing feeling.

The other thought I had when I saw your post is that I read an article once (and can’t find it now) I think in the context of long COVID, talking about how places like Germany/Switzerland/Austria have these recuperation type spa hotels they send people off to if they have medical issues as part of their NHS equivalent system, where they eat healthily, have some physio, swim outdoors etc. Might be worth looking up those sort of places too.

On another note I think you’ve come up with an amazing business idea here! Time to go on Dragon’s Den! I would definitely go to a place like you describe (or similar to what another pp described with the “mum” figure 🤣).

My sister said that you can draw a curtain around your area and there is no obligation to speak … she didn’t speak, she went for a reset and said the retreat allowed her to do that.

How could anybody find that relaxing?

Does it have to be UK? I think we got quite close to what you describe in a luxurious, smallish adults only hotel in Turkey. Waiters circling bringing drinks to your lounger, a bit of entertainment if you want it but quiet if you don't, no sunbed wars, private beach. More faff to get there of course.

Can you share details please?
