A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

The problem is you only have go read posts on here (not this thread) to see there still continues to be people who believe Labour is the best thing for this country. I dread to think what state this country will be in by the time we get to have a GE.

We foretold all of this before they got back in.

TheNuthatch · 16/11/2025 08:01

Good morning 😁

@NOTACustards Welcome aboard 👋

@Damnthetorpedoes Thanks. That polling is dire. I wasn't convinced that Starmer would be ousted early until the events of this week. It feels terminal now. All self inflicted too.

Good on the farmers!

Unless the writing in the Guardian is so bad, they automatically think Burnham will walk a By- Election and Manchester will allow Mcmahon to become Mayor by a coronation because he wears a red rosette .

Yeh probably. Labour are arrogant enough to think that for sure.

Yes you're right, and its frightening that some still have faith.
I think MN is the last stronghold of support though. Even the Guardian don't like this government.

@redange did you enjoy the film ? I wasn't looking forward to it but really enjoyed it.

I'm struggling to comprehend a disgraced MP with no discernable talent who should be quietly thinking of another career has the utter cheek to think she had be our PM??

TheNuthatch · 16/11/2025 08:16

Lots of disgruntled Labour MPs letting their feelings know to the press about the PM and chancellor. From Sky news.

Her career is toast," one told me. "Rachel has just lost all credibility. She screwed up on the manifesto. She screwed up on the last two fiscal events, costing the party huge amounts of support and leaving the economy stagnating."Having now walked everyone up the mountain of tax rises and made us vote to support them on the opposition day debate two days ago, she's now worried her job is at risk and has bottled it."Talk to any major business or investor and they are holding off investing in the UK until it is clear what the UK's tax policy is going to be, putting us in a situation where the chancellor is going to have to go through this all over again in six months - which just means no real economic growth for another six months."

It’s really low now. I assume some will still blame everyone else bar Labour for their downfall.

Yeh that sounds right. She can’t last if Labour MPs are circling and airing their anger. Starmer too.

Mahmood in the Sunday Times outlining her plans on the Danish model.
Strong stuff.

Yes, it all seems reasonable and uncontroversial stuff. Of course, if it had fell from the lips of Conservative or Reform then it would be deemed fat right rhetoric. I notice that there's no mention of an elite border force 🤷🏼‍♀️

Fat right 🤣 I'm sure my phone is against me.

EasternStandard · 16/11/2025 08:45

I’m skipping the Mahmood stuff. The hypocrisy is galling. Just a minute ago Starmer calling policies racist and far right.

Nope. They can swing.

It is, isn't it? Less than a year ago, but prior to Bollard's Island of Strangers speech, these proposals would be lambasted as dangerously populist and cruel. And the electorate would have been told they were being led sheepishly astray by untrustworthy voices.

But if Mahmood can stave off handing the keys to the galvanised radical lefts in the party then we might have more to work with in three years time.

Mahmood probably has an eye on the prize too - hence the tough talk…

haha Bollard love it. Yeh and more than that extreme, racist, far right, algorithms you name it. I can’t engage with that stuff now from them.

On where Labour goes it’ll be interesting. I have a feeling the party might diverge from the electorate as internally the left will have more support?

Not sure though

If they do go left it won’t last due to the markets. Those markets can be very handy at times

Damnthetorpedoes · 16/11/2025 09:07

Anything that tears Labour asunder, is to be welcomed in my book.

The more time they spending shafting each other, the less time they have to bring in destructive policy.

Mahmood “…illegal migration is causing huge divides in this country”.

No, this Labour government is causing the huge divides…

Yep that was my take too.

Incidentally, and without speaking on @TheNuthatch behalf as the Serial Thread OP! It’s great to see some new and (net contributor) names on here.

Happy Sunday.

Just listening to Mahmood on Laura K.
She sounds like a Reform MP! The hypocrisy is staggering after labelling Reform's plans racist.

From what I understand the labour leader is chosen by a vote of the Labour Party members and affiliated trade union supporters. I don’t see how Shabana Mahmood who is very much on the right of the party would have a chance against someone like Angela Rayner or Ed Miliband.

I’ve been reading this thread for a while - hi 👋🏻

DancingFerret · 16/11/2025 09:21

Mahmood on Kuenssberg right now; forget immigration, her strong suit appears to be obfuscation.

Welcome @percypiggy200and everyone joining. So pleased to see the thread grow.

I agree Labour won’t go for Mahmood, I’m surprised they can vote for her changes, if a vote is needed, given their rhetoric earlier.

percypiggy200 · 16/11/2025 09:31

we lived in London for 15 years and adored it - it breaks my heart what is happening to it. We left last year for Dubai - all of our friends are leaving/ have left. Not a representative sample of course because most of them are Europeans working in finance and it’s very easy to move if you’re not even English and finance is so moveable. I keep reading articles about people moving but Rachel says it’s a myth so will be very interested to see if it’s borne out in treasury receipts.

MantleStatue · 16/11/2025 09:37

I know loads of people moving too.

Including our tenant who is in finance. She told us that most of the people she is working with are talking about it or planning it or doing it.

MantleStatue · 16/11/2025 09:38

Also our private school has a few teachers who have already upped sticks and moved to Dubai and Qatar and Italy. Their jobs are not being advertised either as the school tries to mitigate the VAT-related attrition rate of students.
