A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Morning all, I’m posting from a sports hall in Norfolk this morning as I watch DD go through a martial arts testing session.

I’m resigned to the fact I’m likely to become a HRT without any sniff of a pay rise. I’m a couple of £000 under the current threshold so given the speculation that they’re going to drop the figure that High Rate kicks in looks like I’ll be losing out.

Good luck to your dd 😊.

There will be loads of people in the same position. At least it won't affect you immediately. The next government may change things🤞

God, Labour are depressing. I might have to do an @twistyizzy and stay off the internet for my mental elf. Wonder if I can grab a benefit for that.

Meanwhile I’m going to Waitrose this morning to splash out on fancy food we’ll soon be avoiding!

Thanks. She’s due to promote to black belt 🥋 in a few weeks so this is her final testing session. Not bad for an 11 year old!

Some scathing reviews of the supposed good news on fiscal situation. Some saying they don’t believe the spin.

Times Radio economists / commentators etc

Edited

I don't believe the spin either. I'm sure tax receipts are up, but so are costs. We all know that the fuck up with briefings has caused the U turn on income tax.

Its sad that we've reached a point where the Labour lies are actually expected and accepted as the norm.

I'm avoiding all other threads except this one atm. I don't have the patience for Labour apologists rn.
Enjoy waitrose. Best to stock up before the budget. Let us know what goodies you find. We don't have a waitrose round here, very jealous 😁.

Who you vote for is not important or relevant, unlike other posts and like unwelcome guests on here we do not preach the gospel like a missionary !

We just know at present, we are living at a time when the UK has never felt so broken whether economically socially or morally . I believe that even in the middle of the 1970's when we had the 'three day' week regular power cuts and constant strikes we were 'Socially' together and a morally strong nation !

The correlation between how shit Labour are doing and thread derailment attempts = 100%.

God it’s annoying. Constant derailment.

Yes, it’s annoying but that’s the intention so best ignored.

TenLittleSweetWrappers · 15/11/2025 11:11

Except it’s not derailment as Mumsnet has confirmed…

TenLittleSweetWrappers · 15/11/2025 11:12

Trump would say it’s derailment tho!

TenLittleSweetWrappers · 15/11/2025 11:14

But Trump isn’t in charge of Mumsnet - yet…

justasking111 · 15/11/2025 11:15

If she goes after band F for mansion tax she's going to hit the rental market who occupy family sized homes as well as pensioners.

upseedaisee · 15/11/2025 11:24

At the moment I feel like we're being treated to the world's biggest ponzi scheme. Reeves is spending to massage economic growth figures whilst constantly coming back to the taxpayer for more investment to put into the economy to massage the figures! I'm dizzy.

hamstersarse · 15/11/2025 11:38

I’ve not really taken seriously all the briefings they’ve given on where they’ll raise taxes, I’d fully expect the budget to not resemble anything that’s been muted over the past few weeks such is the extent of their bullshit, I’d fully expect them to do something that’s not even been mentioned in the run up. I mean, who saw the farmers IHT coming? Or Chagos? They are totally random,

What I don’t get is how they can’t see a spiral happening. They aren’t cutting spending, indeed are raising spending, they’ve already raised taxes and the ‘black hole’ has increased since….so what next? I think they’ll find a 5 year term is a very long time. Literally everyone knows the tax rises in whatever capacity they turn out to be won’t touch the sides of their spending habits, that they’ll likely tank productivity too, so what the fuck will they do in 2026’s budget?

i can’t picture even Rachel Reeves this time next year being able to keep a straight face and put in even more tax rises.

It does look like they are the walking dead, they simply can’t last with this strategy of no spending cuts.

I agree

If the intention was to convince posters that Labour are doing OK, they would post interesting well argued counterpoints.
Instead the posts are rambling nonsense or one liners that bear little resemblance to the discussion on the thread.

Best just to skip over.

I'm assuming this won't affect Scotland yet, as I believe council tax is devolved, but I've mentioned before that F would be large swathes of all the new build estates, populated by mortgaged grafters, and huge amounts of pensioners in the established suburbs.

The problem is how it's calculated, they take I think Band D as an average price for the council area and then apply percentages up and down on either side (or how it was calculated in 1991). So, if you live in an area where there's a lot of deprivation, your perfectly ordinary house is suddenly in F or G, but your perfectly ordinary income won't withstand a doubling of an already steep bill - it's not like living in said areas suddenly makes your supermarket shop, fuel, utilities or anything else commensurately cheaper.

Oh ffs. So instead of an income tax raise, she's now back to tinkering with the fucking council tax bands again. Now including Band F.

For reference, here's a Band G mansion:

Excellent article. Starmer is a truly awful PM, he's sacrificing the country's economic best interests for the sake of clinging onto his job.

AN should retain his sympathy for all the poor buggers who are going to hit by Reeves.

The damage will extend to insolvency, divorce and MH.
