Is anyone else worried about Sara Cox?

She looks broken! I’m really worried about her. This is an extreme challenge and I’m questioning why we need to watch someone suffer and struggle for charity?
I’m in awe and admiration of her, but I also want to give her a HOT bath and tuck her into a big cosy bed with a gallon of tea and a dozen hot buttered crumpets.
Is it just me?

My DH did the marathon des sables . It's 7 marathons in 6 days, over the Sahara desert, carrying your own kit. Very tough. Sophie rayworth did it (privately and with no publicity) the same year.

Ultra events are done all the time. Bloody madness and extremely emotional for participants before, during and after. A huge personal achievement. I'm sure that sarah is feeling just that. Good on her. You wouldn't catch me anywhere near something like it though 😂

I think it's very telling that this time last year, Paddy Mcguinness had raised 5.8 million

SC is minor celeb conspicuously undertaking a challenge in a look at meee manner. Of course it’ll result in the one show appearance, book, podcast and she (and her agent) know that. It’s prole food to entertain the masses.

I don’t understand comments about her being insincere or look at me. She is doing an amazing thing for charity. The radio 2 DJ’s take it in turn, she volunteered and this year this was the challenge chosen. I find her to be very likeable in general and as a nearly 50 year old woman what she is doing is quite inspirational to me. I’ve donated, and I don’t usually donate to children in need-my preferred charities are Mind and Age Uk-so she is doing something right in my book.

I agree. She’s pretty much top of her game presenting for the bbc on various shows, radio two show, books, podcast - a highly successful 20 year career.

Wow, I'm amazed at the bile directed at Sara on this thread. I very much think she was asked as it was "her turn" to do the Children in Need challenge, rather than her pleading to do it for publicity reasons. (Before Vernon/Paddy I remember Tess/Claud danceathon, Dermot O' Leary similar, Owain Wyn Jones drumming for 24 hrs, Scott Mills and his treadmill...). I am worried about her body but I also find it incredibly heartwarming and I've cried lots this week as I've listened to her progress (and yes I've donated, happily). I've also worked in the charity sector and understand how difficult it is to fundraise, so I think it's rubbish people to dismiss the need for such an act - people don't "just" donate, they need a catalyst to do so - whether that's a personal connection to the cause, or, in the case of millions of R2 listeners this week, crying buckets while listening to stories about families who have lost children, or children who have lost their parents - people who will benefit from the very money that Sara is going through immense physical and psychological barriers to generate. I love her (and if you don't, just don't listen to R2 for the rest of the week!).

Amazing achievement already, Sara Cox seems like a thoroughly lovely person and this challenge is tough. She’s got a tough day ahead of her, some of the hills on her last day will be absolutely gruelling. I drive the road from Killinghall often and have to put my automatic car into manual/drop the gears down to get up one of them smoothly.

Not sure I get the nasty comments/mindset on here at all. Great woman doing great things, I am sure she could have said no and just gone home as normal after her day at work to her husband/family/animals - but she didn’t.

I haven’t been following this, but 5 marathons in 5 days is pretty brutal. Most people will never even do one. She’ll likely e in a lot of pain so I’m not surprised there have been tears. Good on her for doing it!

She’s definitely sincere. I like her podcast Teen Commandments- she and her friend have me in stitches. Sara always seems down to earrh and is very honest. I just think this challenge is a bit much. I presumed she was walking but she’s running a lot.

But she already goes on The One Show and she has already had books published. She doesn't need to do this. I think it's really unkind to assume she's doing this for herself. I couldn't even imagine taking on a challenge like this, I think she's amazing.

She presents the drive time show on the most listened to radio station in Britain. She's extremely successful. She has no need of this for her career.

It’s hard to imagine anyone managing to twist Sara’s incredible efforts and achievement into something negative!!
Maybe time would be better spent on self reflection??

This is why I hate the whole thing, and some of the recipients. And the BBC generally! Fair does to Sarah though but it won't make me donate.

I really liked her before this but think she’s amazing now.
Mumsnet loves to hate anything that she does.

She’s ace. I really enjoy her work, and always have done. She’s very authentic and not afraid to be herself. Her Teen Commandments podcast is brilliant.

There’s absolutely no way she is doing this as a “look at me” moment. What an awful thing to say about someone raising money for charity. People look at her anyway, she’s on the telly and radio most days.

She’s had 10 weeks training. Almost from scratch. And she has arthritis on one knee. And she’s not a woman in her 20s. And yet still people say it’s all just a show.

The posters being negative are rather souless.

She's not my favourite radio presenter but I still think she's great, very authentic, has a huge heart and is doing this purely for good reasons.

She's an inspiration! I am FAR more impressed with her doing this than Vernon or Paddy.

I posted upthread I've done a few ultra challenges - if you've never been able to push yourself physically in that way, you cannot comprehend the pain. And I've not done anywhere near 135 miles!!!

No. She signed up for it and will have medical help. Lots of people do these things without lots of publicity. Recently it was Speedo Mick or the 3 fathers whose daughters had taken their own lives. Graeme Souness did a charity channel swim. But I salute her for doing it.

I’m struggling to get out there and face today, but reading about Sara has given me courage! How she is starting it all again for another day, I can’t imagine.
