Is anyone else worried about Sara Cox?

She looks broken! I’m really worried about her. This is an extreme challenge and I’m questioning why we need to watch someone suffer and struggle for charity?
I’m in awe and admiration of her, but I also want to give her a HOT bath and tuck her into a big cosy bed with a gallon of tea and a dozen hot buttered crumpets.
Is it just me?

I like Sara Cox’s radio show and admire her immense endurance achievement and fund raising. Not cynical about celebs fundraising.

I don’t like and don’t donate to these extreme endurance challenges, though, even when it’s athletes like the fantastic Kevin Sinfield and more so when the fundraiser is not an athlete. Because I think there’s too much risk to the individuals and I don’t want to be part of perpetuating it.

Indeed the purpose is PR for SC and maximise donations and that’s achieved by curating and staging the output
Fatigued But vulnerable✔️
Create good to camera pieces ✔️
Curate the regular lass becomes warrior transformation ✔️
High expressed emotion to hook audience ✔️
Will she?Wont she make it✔️
Ramp up the emotional demanding tone, oh no!is she broken?✔️
This is not point camera for one take, it’s a whole endeavour and she (and her agent) are beneficiaries as is CiN and the BBC. It’s a huge win for all

I agree. But I think the reason some posters are resorting to vicious personal attacks is because they credulously believed that it was all completely genuine, totally spontaneous, au naturel footage because they're not very good at thinking and they gleefully lapped it up. And now they feel a little bit stupid (and angry).

Dozer · 16/11/2025 17:39

Most charities have to do mawkish, emotive stuff, because it leads to higher donations.

BBC is required to do charity stuff, they’re just using similar techniques.

The BBC might want to start to do some fundraising stunts for their impending legal bills.

Of course it’s a touchy point
It is not Point camera, Go! it’s an event to manipulate people and elicit a response. It worked.

My contention is the coverage is manipulated & mawkish manipulated delivering low level content. But,because it generates high income the CiN event becomes a race to the bottom. The public want (and get) high emotion content as a celeb undergoes an arduous and unnecessary task to raise monies. The transactional nature of Schleb suffers on screen and the public donate if the task is arduous and cry on camera hard enough.

It is a repugnant media event. The base transactional nature of it is deeply flawed. But yet, millions seem to love it.The public get what the public want (emotional drama, and, arduous task) and in return they make donations

Pedallleur · 16/11/2025 19:00

Listening to R2 this pm and she seemed to be mentioned every 30 mins then we had the advert for her show saying she is resting and back on Wed. How long are they carrying this on for? I presume she will be on every chat show on TV and Radio.

Repugnant media event 😂

Millions have been raised for charity, hardly repugnant...

Yup. That’s the media discussing the media, a self serving self congratulatory set
Buckle up for the shows, podcasts, repeated mentions

Wow - that is and outstanding achievement.
if I were her I’d sleep for twelve hours and spend h to r whole weekend in bed watching films.

I hope she's had a weekend full of naps and snacks! Well deserved.

Vitriolinsanity · 16/11/2025 21:07

I’m in awe that woman forced herself to do that. I felt sick watching her lows and moved when she saw her Bessie and got the call from her mam.

Fair play to you lass. None of the critical wankers on this thread should bring you down.

MySilentLions · 16/11/2025 22:16

CoffeeLipstickKeys · 14/11/2025 05:11

Unpleasant? Nope, Untrue, not at all. It’s an obligatory minor celeb thing to do, go in a jungle, Undergo an arduous swim, run, jump with a camera crew en route
SC is minor celeb conspicuously undertaking a challenge in a look at meee manner. Of course it’ll result in the one show appearance, book, podcast and she (and her agent) know that. It’s prole food to entertain the masses.

How many times have people replied to you saying she already HAS a very successful podcast, has already published books, and does not need the One Show and here you are, still repeating the same untrue crap. How sad and bitter.

MySilentLions · 16/11/2025 22:29

InvestingNew · 14/11/2025 09:50

Could someone please explain why this is such a tough challenge for her?
I love Sara, but why has this broken her so quickly?
on paper, it doesn’t seem too awful.

It awful to see her like this.

Go try 135 miles in 5 days and let us know how you get on! Make sure it’s somewhere really hilly, on hard concrete roads, bleak and stormy as well.

Huh? Are you suggesting she didn’t run it?

Who do you think thinks it was spontaneous? It’s literally something that’s talked about on the radio every year?

What do you mean by ‘genuine’ and ‘au naturel footage’? Each year one of the presenters takes on the challenge and they talk it up and train and then film and publicise it a lot so they can make the necessary money associated with the charity challenge?

Of course they aim for the best footage. They’re hardly going to say, ‘we know your legs were hurting Sara and you were crying after 50 miles, but we decided to show a two minute video of the start each day and hope for the best. The rest of each day we’ll leave you to it. Alright?’ 😆

I’m not sure this is the gotcha you think it is. I read the thread out of interest and saw somebody vaguely referring to things they didn’t like about her and suggesting they knew her in some capacity, refusing to actually say what they mean, and then calling her an arsehole? I think that was what a few of us were raising eyebrows about.

Your post is just kind of… odd.

Pedallleur · 17/11/2025 06:41

Scott Mills keeping the love going. Praising his team etc. Did he run it as well?

No, I didn't say she didn't run it. Obviously she did. And I certainly don't think that observing it will all have been heavily edited and deliberately mawkish is any kind of 'gotcha' because surely it's obvious?

Yes. I am very uncomfortable at how unpleasantly voyeuristic it all is. It reminds me of the old ladies knitting at the foot of the guillotine.

Extended close up filming of her face whilst crying and speaking to her Mum, FFS? Is this really what the public are baying for?

CoffeeLipstickKeys · 17/11/2025 18:25

You evidently don’t understand the mn premise @MySilentLions

posters take a consistent stance and maintain that throughout thread. That is understood. So, no I won’t be Giving it a fuckin rest (as you helpfully suggest).

Do feel free to approach the other posters suggest they too give it a fuckin rest from their posts.Ask if they wish to refrain from posting?Do they want to Ease up on the effusive praise?

is it only me that has to give it a fuckin rest? Or just those you disagree with

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 18/11/2025 19:16

Nope

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 22/11/2025 00:25

Yes, she raised money for as good cause and got a shit load of publicity for herself

Hmm. Let's think about this

She is around fifty and it look as though the BBC will a be making a few more cut backs in the near future.

So she wants to leave in a blaze of glory and always be remembered for her heroic effort. Oh! Look at me suffering to raise money for poor children like an Olympic Elite Athlete

And to dine out for her achievements for a good few years!

And get more free lance work to add to her sizeable Pension Fund.

Sorry, but l really can't stand these old school smug, overpaid, talentless now middle aged BBC cronies.

Think Sarah Cox. Zoe Ball, Jo Whitley, Vernon Kay etc.
