Is anyone else worried about Sara Cox?

She looks broken! I’m really worried about her. This is an extreme challenge and I’m questioning why we need to watch someone suffer and struggle for charity?
I’m in awe and admiration of her, but I also want to give her a HOT bath and tuck her into a big cosy bed with a gallon of tea and a dozen hot buttered crumpets.
Is it just me?

It's all an act for the BBC Children in need money machine.(CEO salary £156k) She's known that she will be doing this for months and has trained for it....the only good thing about it is that she's not on the radio from 4.00 till 7.00

Specialcrumpets · 13/11/2025 22:38

BadgernTheGarden · 13/11/2025 20:41

No one forced her to do it and she can stop any time. If she wants to complete it good on her.

If she's not fit enough she really should have trained more, she must have realised it was a long way or did she think it would be fudged and she'd do most of it in the back of a van? She'll dine out on it for years and we'll hear about how hard it was endlessly and probably a book deal to boot, me cynical nooo!

If it was anything like the person I knew and heard about it would be the thinking she could fudge it that would be the main component here. She’s famous! The rules don’t apply! Surely…

🤣 👏

I haven't a clue as to who she is. Based on responses here, I assume she's on the wireless?

Really? It’s been done for a few years now and they’re filmed and followed along the whole route, would be an odd thing to try to fake, surely?

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 13/11/2025 22:58

I think this challenge is too much, it’s a horrible watch and agree with pp that she could do herself permanent damage.

It’s made me upset and the bbc should be ashamed although I’m sure they’re not.

Radio 2 drivetime show! Been around one way or another for years now though. TV etc.

Clafoutie · 13/11/2025 22:59

Yes, I agree OP. She seems to really be in pain, and not surprising really, given the extreme challenge. I hope she is ok.

A few years ago, I walked 63 miles in 23 hours for charity.

Destroyed me, nearly broke me.

But you know what, I absolutely loved it.

Unless youve done something way way out of your comfort zone, I dont think you can understand.

The inner feeling of pushing on, when your body is screaming at you too stop, to not give up, its such a feeling when you finish.

Also do not underestimate, how it helps your mental health, the focus you need for the training, the belief it gives you.

It would have been quicker to google, wouldn’t it? Do you feel edgy pretending you don’t know who she is?

I think she’s doing a marvellous job.

Clafoutie · 13/11/2025 23:14

There are some really ungenerous comments on here. Regardless of what posters think about her personality or her motivations, she’s still actually out there doing it isn’t she?! Meanwhile, some criticise from presumably the comfort of their home. Bit depressing to see people actively tear her down, as opposed to just not commenting if you don’t like her, or think she is not sincere.

No, not edgy. Just confessing to being old.

ETA Based on what I've seen on here, yes - she is dong a good job with regard to her physical efforts.

AndreaMarvell · 13/11/2025 22:08

She's never been on Strictly. Are you mixing her up with Zoe Ball?

Ah, no, she did a Christmas Strictly, not the full one, sorry.

AndresyFiorella · 13/11/2025 23:24

I have so much admiration for her, but I'm also worried she's doing herself permanent damage. If her knees or hips are never the same again, will it have been worth it?

Lastfroginthebox · 13/11/2025 23:25

NerrSnerr · 13/11/2025 21:43

Um. She already has written books, she has a podcast and has been presenting radio and TV for what, 30 years?

if she wanted to ‘boost’ her career in the way you’re saying she’d be on I’m a celeb or strictly. Sara Cox isn’t a minor celebrity.

I agree she's not a minor celebrity. But I wonder why she's agreed to do it - it can only be to raise money for charity and/or raise her profile, or maybe to challenge herself. They're all legitimate reasons. Nobody is forced into doing these things.

FurForksSake · 13/11/2025 22:23

I hope she doesn’t end up with rhabdo.

Oh God, no. My dad had it when he was 78, six years ago. Doctors still have no idea why it happened to him. He lost five and a half stone and spent five months in hospital. He made a full recovery, but it's a dreadful, dreadful illness.

margegunderson · 13/11/2025 23:48

somanysugababes · 13/11/2025 20:59

I have run 3 marathons in 3 days - hilly ones too. It’s hard but it’s not THAT hard. Granted it’s not 5, but I could have done a few more days if I’d have to 🤷‍♀️ do the training, it’s doable for most people.

And are you 50 with an arthritic knee?

MungoforPresident · 14/11/2025 00:18

CurlewKate · 13/11/2025 19:46

Or people could just donate the money? Just a thought…

I 100% agree with this and it was my own thinking!

I used to own a large charity, and all the time, I had people offering to do X and Y to raise money. They wanted to do marathons, jump from planes, hold stalls that would raise only a few quid, and some offered to knit and sell bootees.

To me, it was so stupid!

I just used to say, "Look, if I just ask for donations, people freely give!" And they did. It was never hard to get donations. I often think these 'causes' are all about "look at me, see what an amazing, generous thing I am doing!"

Self-congratulatory. Not in Sara's case I should add because she has no doubt been cajoled into this by people thinking she should be a part of this annual charade. I have no time for these kinds of things.

BungledBundle · 14/11/2025 00:29

RainbowZebraWarrior · 13/11/2025 21:00

I think it's very telling that this time last year, Paddy Mcguinness had raised 5.8 million and sobbed his way through his challenge saying he had never felt more loved. He had recently split up with his wife.

Sara's challenge is way more brutal (bearing in mind that Vernon Kay did a similar, but much shorter version 2 years ago)

She's been suffering with Inflammation cascade since day 2. She hit just on 3 million tonight. I do wonder if people have a bias towards men, or if there's some other reason why the total doesn't seem to have hit the heady heights of the previous competitors.

Either way, this is a brutal challenge, and I wonder why the hell the organisers felt the need to make it so much harder than Vernon's two years ago.

Completely agree with this.

I am very pissed off with the BBC and some of their CiN charities have been dodgy over the years, but I had to cave and donate because it annoys me that women don't get the same recognition as men (when doing more!)

Her achievement is fantastic.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 13/11/2025 20:36

Oh please, she’s not walking THAT far.

5 marathons in 5 days

I'd call that pretty damn far.U

how many days in a row gave you walked a marathon?

radio presenter. Undertaking a look at meeee challenge all aren't I so good for undertaking a charity marathon. Charity event that her agent recommended would get her a book deal, podcast and raise her minor celeb status. Because the public won’t give unless there a huge yellow bear and a celeb involved

How unpleasant and untrue, frankly.

She's already very well established and quite famous enough.

'Look at me'? Maybe she just wants to raise money for a worthy cause.

Fucking hell, bitter much? Can't believe some of the arsehole comments on here, throwing shit at someone who's achieved so much. How's your successful career and multi-marathon running going @Specialcrumpets ?

tothelefttotheleft · 14/11/2025 01:50

@RedRec

Seems a weird to choice to go to male presenters and ask them how to get back into work after having children.

I work for a charity and it’s not how we find it. We are reputable, generally well thought of and for a cause that’s popular - however, fundraising to ensure a stable and sustainable charitable operation is many-faceted and managed by a professional who puts a lot of work into maximising the different donation streams while not impacting the ‘brand’ or pissing off supporters.

It is brilliant that you only had to ask though.
