Is anyone else worried about Sara Cox?

She looks broken! I’m really worried about her. This is an extreme challenge and I’m questioning why we need to watch someone suffer and struggle for charity?
I’m in awe and admiration of her, but I also want to give her a HOT bath and tuck her into a big cosy bed with a gallon of tea and a dozen hot buttered crumpets.
Is it just me?

You keep saying that, but in what way? Or just vague allusions.

We both worked in the industry - where I came across her. How does that help?!

I can't be doing with her radio show but she seems a nice person.

It doesn’t at all. I mean you’re calling her an arsehole but not saying why. Like should we think of all possible arsehole-ish behaviour and proscribe it to her?

I’ve met her. Twice. And she was not nice. So, meh…

I am surprised to hear that. Was there something specific that happened that made you think that?

BootMaker · 13/11/2025 22:03

Did she snog your boyfriend when you were a teenager @SpecialCrumpets?

Your vitriol feels strangely personal...

Does it? Does disliking one woman mean you’re a woman hater? It’s actually a really really misogynistic take on things. Dismissing ‘cat fighting’ women. You should be ashamed

Nope haven't got a clue what you mean by that.

I'm not ashamed, I tend to try to raise women up. Some posts on here have flagged off her motives, her running style, her legs!

So I absolutely stand by what I wrote.

If she’s trying to get a bit more fame why is she doing a challenge which is primarily aired on the radio station she’s already a main presenter for.

She’s already pretty famous. Is a prime time radio 2 presenter, presents the One Show, is an author, has a current podcast.

She’d get much more exposure on one of the million celebrity reality shows like Strictly if that’s what she wanted.

Sarah did Strictly, years ago.

Does it? I’ve not said anything personal about her or me, I wouldn’t, it’s unfair.

She just wasn’t very pleasant on the two occasions I’ve met her. And I’ve heard similar from other colleagues in the industry. BUT this also wasn’t extremely recently so maybe she’s changed….

Ah ok, so if she wanted a career boost now she’d do I’m a celeb or another reality show.

She's never been on Strictly. Are you mixing her up with Zoe Ball?

Her radio show is not to my personal taste
Mine neither, I can't listen

but I really admire her grit and determination.
Yes definitely me too. But could she have done something else, less punishing but equally admirable?

Probably would have been better for her to do something horsey - that is very much her thing. An endurance ride, say, would probably have been less punishing on her. But who knows how the dice are rolled at the BBC and whether she might have felt some pressure to perform in a similar way to Vernon and Paddy? I don't know. Just thinking out loud.
But I sincerely hope she doesn't end up with any lasting physical damage because of this.

FcukBreastCancer · 13/11/2025 22:13

I agree. Its too much.

BeagleHound1 · 13/11/2025 22:14

I find her and what she has done truly inspirational. She’s the same age as me and is pretty fit but has set herself a really hard but doable challenge. I hope more people will get out there and start running or walking , whatever their age and fitness.

TidyCyan · 13/11/2025 22:14

I'm very amused that someone posted about one of the longest-standing BBC presenters doing this to "get a podcast".

She has been on primetime broadcasts since the mid-90s. She was on The Big Breakfast when I was an early teenager and I am in my 40s!

FurForksSake · 13/11/2025 22:16

Bring back Matt and the Rickshaw. Poor Sara, I really don’t think she’ll be well after this.

Perhaps the government should spend more on these vital services for needy kids instead of all of this?

Foxybyname · 13/11/2025 22:17

BadgernTheGarden · 13/11/2025 20:41

No one forced her to do it and she can stop any time. If she wants to complete it good on her.

If she's not fit enough she really should have trained more, she must have realised it was a long way or did she think it would be fudged and she'd do most of it in the back of a van? She'll dine out on it for years and we'll hear about how hard it was endlessly and probably a book deal to boot, me cynical nooo!

You sound lovely 🙄

If you've got DC, let's hope you've brought them up differently to how you've come across in this post.

usedtobeaylis · 13/11/2025 22:20

Well done to her, you can tell she's in incredible amounts of pain and the physical and mental toll it's taking on her isn't something I would voluntarily sign up for.

FurForksSake · 13/11/2025 22:23

I hope she doesn’t end up with rhabdo.

ForPearlViper · 13/11/2025 22:25

I find myself wondering if they might consider finding someone who isn't from Bolton for next year's challenge. It's beginning to look like a vendetta.

Lobsterteapot · 13/11/2025 22:26

It’s an absolutely nuts challenge. She’s a broadcaster not an athlete. The beeb should be ashamed

Finchleee · 13/11/2025 22:27

Did anyone hear Jeremy Vine when he met up with her this evening on the radio? He was saying how hard it had been getting the train to York, then he had to find his driver. He had difficulty finding her location from the app. Please can everyone think about Jeremy!

Itworkedout · 13/11/2025 22:27

It made me wonder how much pressure there is to do extreme charity fundraising in her job. Because she can’t really say no. Maybe they should share the load a bit so one person isn’t pushing their body to ridiculous limits each year.

usedtobeaylis · 13/11/2025 22:29

Sorry I thought she chose to do it? Not to take away from the job she is doing at all and she is clearly pushing herself to her limits in aid of charity but was she chosen to do it and she agreed?

But he did also point out the irony in him having a (very funny) sports massage in the studio on his show while she was the one out there doing all the hard work 🙂
I love Jezza.

FurForksSake · 13/11/2025 22:34

I’m going to harp on about my love for Matt Baker, the thing with the rickshaw challenge was he took part in it alongside a big group of kids that seemed to get a lot from the experience. It made the kids the star, showed how hard they trained and worked for the event.

Sara is amazing, but it feels similar to Eddie Izzard (I don’t know what they go by now) or other challenges where the star is the celebratory and it’s all about them.

Perhaps if she had been joined by adult volunteers / employees of the charities to bring the focus back it might have hit differently?
