Satsuma watch

WHERE ARE THE SATSUMAS?? I’ve been looking for a couple of weeks ans they usually appear at the end of October, but there are none to be found in Aldi, Waitrose or Co-op. I remember there not being any around last year either so suspect that this is all down to bloody Brexit. And, no, tangerines or clementines or “easy peelers” are not an acceptable substitute.

Has anyone spotted any? They are my favourite fruit and I look forward to them all year.

I typed 'satsumas' into the Tesco online search box and got given a choice of 3 bags of little oranges, all marked 'easy peelers'.

I wonder if the market stalls in town will have them.

Thank you for calling out this travesty. Market is a good thought. Heading to Aldi tomorrow but I am not confident.

Riverford do Sweetie Grapefruits if you can get a delivery from them.
It's about £5 for 2.

European farmers started switching out from growing satsumas over a decade ago to concentrate on other citrus.
Apparently most of Europe aren't satsuma fans the way Brits were, which is why there are less to buy.

What's wrong with those continentals? Why don't they like satsumas?

This is genuinely giving me panicky feelings.

I’m very excited - my ocado order is due in two hours and my confirmation email says that I’ve got no missing items - I think my satsumas are finally coming!

Growlybear83 · 27/11/2025 16:43

My satsumas have arrived and they are wonderful!

Proper satsumas in Tesco. I've no idea how they're labelled on line but they have satsuma on the bag tag.

That gorgeous Christmassy aroma 🍊

PS taste wise, they're a mixed bag literally....

None in my tesco…just the bastard “easy” peelers making promises they can’t keep 🙄

I bought some lovely large ones at Sainsbury's today. I got 2 bags.

Round trip of an hour to visit Morrisons on the satsuma search. Waste of time. They didn't even have an empty bit of shelf where they should be. Nothing but easy peelers. I even read the tiny labels on the actual fruit to see if they were in the wrong bags, but no. Sad

jackbenimblejackbequick · 29/11/2025 19:14

None in Lidl or Aldi. I was hoping for one of those big “grocer’s boxes” but only yucky clemmsterpeelers in those. Urgh!

I found a bag of satsumas in a Tesco branch on Sauchiehall Street yesterday (Glasgow). Very surprised. Decent fruit too.

Greysowhat · 29/11/2025 19:36

I prefer tangerines
