Just wondering what makes someone a loser in life? Is it working a low skilled job all your life? Living at home still at 40?

what are your thoughts?

People who put others down to feel superior because it's easier than trying to be a better person.

'low skilled job all your life" - yes if the person isn't disabled.

Like damn, you'd be the example I give to my kids on what happens if you don't work hard at school.

Wow.
My friend dropped out of school at 14 due to severe anxiety and unsupportive parents. She got no qualifications as a result. She started work at 16 and has worked ever since, doing ‘low-skilled work’. She was considered a key worker during Covid because her job is actually very important. So what if it’s low-skilled and low paid? She’s worked harder in her job than many ‘higher-skilled’ people in ‘better’ jobs.
She has made a life for herself despite not getting the support she needed when she was young. She has never relied on the state to fund her. I think she’s a bloody good role model for any young person. She’s shown that despite a crap time in school, crap parents and no qualifications, she’s become an important member of society and she puts 110% into her job.

Please think before you make these kind of comments.

I work a low skilled job and have no ambition to change that i love it no stress, arrive on time leave on time don't have to take anything home with me. Don't have to travel far to get to work. I earn enough to pay my bills go on holiday have some treats. Why would I want to change that. Work isn't important to me or my priority my children, health and time are . So if that makes me a loser so be it.

BCBird · 11/11/2025 18:38

It's not a term I would use to describe someone.

caringcarer · 11/11/2025 18:38

Someone who doesn't work or have a reason not to work like a disability or caring for DC, but instead just sponges off of others. I don't think working in a minimum wage job or living at home savings a deposit makes someone a loser.

In agreement. Our value should not be determined by our earnings

Your friend is exactly the sort of person I would want my kids to look up to she is absolutely smashing it good for her.

Yes, but that is more on a basic level. Things such as lacking motivation for basic self care etc.
Not lacking motivation to get a career. Not wanting a career is not an illness, nor does it make someone a loser.

It's fine as long as they aren't on any benefits.

StrongLikeMamma · 11/11/2025 18:41

Voting Reform makes you a massive loser.

Depression effects motivation in all areas of life not just some. Please show me where i wrote it makes someone a loser as I said the exact opposite

I'm on the fence with this one. For those who have no health conditions preventing work, I think they shouldn't actively choose unemployment.

Oh, I agree, I didn't mean it's ok to choose not to work / support yourself. Just choosing to work in perhaps a low paid role and not trying to climb the ladder is an ok option. We need workers!

I was just reacting to your comment.

Someone not wanting a career is not a symptom of depression. A lack of motivation for a career is not a problem and should not be treated as such.
And I agree... it does not make someone a loser. I have never had a career and never will. I am not a loser.

caringcarer · 11/11/2025 18:44

Women who drink mindlessly and excessively when they are pregnant and really don't give a fuck that their baby might have feotal alcohol syndrome disorder which can mean a lifelong struggle for their DC. People who sell drugs to others and make lots of money not caring who they hurt along the way. They are both losers in my book.

XWKD · 11/11/2025 18:46

I hate the term "loser". I also hate the idea that some people are more "successful" than others because of their career or bank balance. It's such a shallow view of human beings. I have huge admiration for those who try to help others, and who are compassionate. The other stuff doesn't really mean a great deal to me.

XenoBitch · 11/11/2025 18:46

Mashallaah · 11/11/2025 18:40

It is the ridiculous cost of housing and living that means someone in a low paid job would be on benefits as well as working full time.
That does not make them a loser. It is just a very sad sign of the times.

youalright · 11/11/2025 18:46

@XenoBitchis there a reason you always jump on my posts, don't read what I actually write properly and try to twist it to make me sound like an arsehole. You have done this on so many different threads and I don't understand why. If you must continually reply to my posts, please read them carefully before commenting.

All jobs are essential. Good on her for not relying on the state (that's the main thing).

There are many threads where those on low paid jobs saying they need UC.

ClaredeBear · 11/11/2025 18:47

People who are mean in spirit.

Arlanymor · 11/11/2025 18:47

What does the term 'loser' even mean? What are the criteria? People have all sorts of reasons why they struggle and labelling them doesn't help.

People who intentionally hurt others, either physically or mentally. People who lack accountability for their actions

I am really confused, and I think you have totally mistaken what I have said.

You said lack of motivation is a symptom of depression. I agree, but lack of motivation for a career is not depression, neither is it a problem.

I agree with everything you have said.

FaithfultotheTraitors · 11/11/2025 18:50

Probably people who spend their time judging others lives based on the job they do. If you're 'winning' so much at life why do you need to look down on others to feel superior?

Why have you never had one then? Englighten me. I'm open to changing my mind.
