Who the hell is “Molly-Mae?” Because I’m sick and tired of seeing her doing her laundry!

AnotherNameChange2025 · 10/11/2025 20:34

I got into watching classic coronation street on ITV X and due to being ill with a kidney infection I’ve been watching tv in bed the last few days.

It seems every ad break Molly Mae is popping up on “laundry day” (seriously? 🤔) and I thought she was a child at first until she talks about “Bambi’s clothes”. I was completely confused by this until I realised she must be old enough to have had a child and named her after a cartoon fawn whose mother was murdered which seems a bit questionable.

I don’t know why it annoys me that much (maybe over exposure) but it’s making me want to smash up my TV 😂.
The way she sniffs her washing before proclaiming “that could do with a wash” why else would it be in your laundry basket?!
The rest of the clothes she puts in look clean and I’m wondering if it’s just because doing laundry is her “current obsession”.

I have no idea who she is but I’m guessing some kind of influencer, is this a way to get kids and teens to hassle parents to buy washing detergent on top of everything else they ask for? Does anyone else have “go-to” washing detergent or do they not just buy what’s on offer like I assumed everyone did?
I know it’s a bit mean to say but she has such an annoying voice and is unconvincing at even doing her washing so I doubt she would have a career in acting. I turned the tv off to get a break from her and had a rare scroll on social media and there she was again doing her washing with a pal this time 🙈.

I wish they would at least show different adverts on catch up tv, am I the only one to get this wound up over irritating ones?
The foxy bingo one is another that’s in constant rotation with another woman with an annoying voice over.

I swear I’m losing all tolerance as I get older and finding I get wound up over the smallest things, is this normal?

I was going to post on AIBU but I suspected some people would take me seriously and start the usual nonsense about trying to diagnose me with mental health issues or the people with genuine anger issues would start laying into me. It was either that or asking if I’m quite alright or on glue.
I suppose I best add a disclaimer that this was a lighthearted rant and I’m not throwing rocks at my tv in a fit of rage about an advert - no matter how annoying it is.

I enjoyed your post, OP, and think you were wise not to post in AIBU. Not sure if there’s an actual set of rules for AIBU and lighthearted threads aren’t allowed but there are always people who will respond negatively to something like this. You’ve avoided a slew of the following:

‘Yes, you’re being totally unreasonable. Get a grip.’

‘You sound like a nightmare to live with’.

‘This has to be a troll. No one could really think like this.’

‘Are you quite alright?’

TheDreamCrusher · 11/11/2025 09:11

She’s a bad influencer, and whilst I don’t think she’s a horrible person, I think she’s a role model for our young girls for all the wrong reasons.

Timeforabitofpeace · 11/11/2025 09:31

@Binnaredand it’s always women!

I like Peter Crouch adverts. He takes the piss out of himself.

MeouwKing · 11/11/2025 12:21

At least she's not promoting bulky pee pants.

Yet 😁

I actually find her YouTube channel entertaining, she’s quite funny. She is also very honest about her struggles with parenting etc

She can definitely say some pretty ill thought out things, but every single little thing she says or does gets picked apart all the time. No one is perfect.

I had to ask my daughter a few years ago who Mollie Mae was and why she was always in the media.
Im getting old you can become famous now for no reason at all.😀

My husband on repeat most nights during adverts and promos for reality shows: " Who's that? What does she do? Why is she a celebrity?" Honey, I dont fucking know, she just is.

and she’s completely ruined my favourite farm shop 😡

Oh dear. Sorry about that. At least I now know she doesn't live round here any more we have crap farm shops so maybe that's why she left.

Cripes12345 · 11/11/2025 22:36

On the other hand, she does say ‘Always keep away from children’ at the end. Which is really good advice 🤣

BaskervilleOldFace · 11/11/2025 23:29

No idea who she is but I’ve seen her (rather silly) name and bland face pop up on tv occasionally. My strong advice: use your mute button! There’s no need to actually watch or listen to any advert.

Rubyupbeat · 12/11/2025 04:53

I pay a small monthly amount on all of these channels so I don't have to watch these dreadful adverts.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 12/11/2025 07:15

OP, you have verbalised everything I think! I also have no idea who this woman is but oh my! Can she irritate!!

SallyAny · 12/11/2025 08:05

SirChenjins · 11/11/2025 08:17

What has she done to the farm shop?!

Been ‘seen’ there and now it’s full of wannabes taking photos and clogging it up while I’m trying to grab my overpriced bacon 🙄

TroysMammy · 12/11/2025 08:08

Whenever she pops up during ad breaks I say to my partner "oh bless, Molly Mae's doing the laundry again". I don't say it every time as that would be as irritating as Molly Mae.

Obeseandashamed · 12/11/2025 08:30

She irks me too!

Honest about her parenting struggles? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 She blatantly hid the fact that she had a nanny and constantly complained about how hard mum life was. She is a lot of things but don’t think honest is one of them.

Boomer55 · 12/11/2025 08:51

She and the advert are so irritating. Have to mute it every time.🙄. Haven’t got a clue who she is though.

Screamingabdabz · 12/11/2025 09:00

I’m in my 50s and love Molly-Mae but what does annoy me is this idea that your laundry needs to smell of some acrid wretch-making ‘scent’ rather than it just being clean.

These products have proliferated because more people are washing at unhygenically low temperatures and the final result is minging and bacteria riddled clothes that stink. So the real answer is to wash properly rather than buying costly and cleverly marketed eco disaster products like “scent boosters”.

Liltrex94 · 13/11/2025 19:46

I agree, she is annoying. She is also a DV survivor though from her relationship with Tommy Fury. Got famous on love Island, pretty much so did Tommy as his dad is the fighter and haven't heard much of him since

But yeah, she has that annoying "influencer" thing about her. She annoys me but she isn't as bad as the rest.

I am 30 and use detergent only.

My family are older and use all the whistles and bells. Whenever I stay my skin gets irritated. I am happy with just detergent thank you

Indigestion, upset stomach - diarrhoeaaaaahhhaa - that’s all I seem to see. The ad that is, not diarrhoea.

MaxandMeg · 13/11/2025 20:32

Something to do with American sub-prime mortgages? Caused the 2008 global financial crisis?

OMG I loathe that advert and it is so irritatingly catching i find myself singing it afterwards.

PeonyPatch · 13/11/2025 20:47

I absolutely cannot stand MM. absolutely talentless and boring - everything wrong about influencer culture
