Who the hell is “Molly-Mae?” Because I’m sick and tired of seeing her doing her laundry!

AnotherNameChange2025 · 10/11/2025 20:34

I got into watching classic coronation street on ITV X and due to being ill with a kidney infection I’ve been watching tv in bed the last few days.

It seems every ad break Molly Mae is popping up on “laundry day” (seriously? 🤔) and I thought she was a child at first until she talks about “Bambi’s clothes”. I was completely confused by this until I realised she must be old enough to have had a child and named her after a cartoon fawn whose mother was murdered which seems a bit questionable.

I don’t know why it annoys me that much (maybe over exposure) but it’s making me want to smash up my TV 😂.
The way she sniffs her washing before proclaiming “that could do with a wash” why else would it be in your laundry basket?!
The rest of the clothes she puts in look clean and I’m wondering if it’s just because doing laundry is her “current obsession”.

I have no idea who she is but I’m guessing some kind of influencer, is this a way to get kids and teens to hassle parents to buy washing detergent on top of everything else they ask for? Does anyone else have “go-to” washing detergent or do they not just buy what’s on offer like I assumed everyone did?
I know it’s a bit mean to say but she has such an annoying voice and is unconvincing at even doing her washing so I doubt she would have a career in acting. I turned the tv off to get a break from her and had a rare scroll on social media and there she was again doing her washing with a pal this time 🙈.

I wish they would at least show different adverts on catch up tv, am I the only one to get this wound up over irritating ones?
The foxy bingo one is another that’s in constant rotation with another woman with an annoying voice over.

I swear I’m losing all tolerance as I get older and finding I get wound up over the smallest things, is this normal?

I was going to post on AIBU but I suspected some people would take me seriously and start the usual nonsense about trying to diagnose me with mental health issues or the people with genuine anger issues would start laying into me. It was either that or asking if I’m quite alright or on glue.
I suppose I best add a disclaimer that this was a lighthearted rant and I’m not throwing rocks at my tv in a fit of rage about an advert - no matter how annoying it is.

I refuse to google and find out who she is but I guess they must have paid an awful lot for her add to keep using her day in day out. My husband growns every time she appears. Maybe she should stop airing her dirty laundry in every ad break!

VikaOlson · 10/11/2025 20:38

That was a long post! I think google would have been quicker 😂

mamagogo1 · 10/11/2025 20:40

She’s definitely been on one of those not a celebrity shows that DD likes, though even she’s moved on

Spare a thought for us - she hails from round these parts.
Confused

RandomUsernameHere · 10/11/2025 20:41

She’s an influencer and was on Love Island. I actually don’t mind her, but I do find some other celebrities irrationally annoying.

Lifesyoungdream · 10/11/2025 20:41

I had to ask my daughter a few years ago who Mollie Mae was and why she was always in the media.
Im getting old you can become famous now for no reason at all.😀

SwedishEdith · 10/11/2025 20:42

I had no idea but guessed she must be some sort of Love Island character. She is the blandest of the bland though. Even blander than Vogue whatsit with her fake whicker shopping basket.

CheeseWisely · 10/11/2025 20:42

She was the ‘star’ of one of ITV’s biggest shows and like her or not she seems to have played her cards well, she’s certainly not struggling for cash.

ilovepixie · 10/11/2025 20:43

Her voice gets on my tits. I want to scratch her face off when I hear it!

SpottyAardvark · 10/11/2025 20:43

She’s a hologram designed & created by AI to make £billions for Unilever by brainwashing the entire population into buying tons of their crappy stinking laundry products.

I’m an agent of the resistance. I buy Lidl own brand. Cheaper, better & no stupid annoying adverts.

Zov · 10/11/2025 20:45

You sure spent a lot of time there @AnotherNameChange2025 telling everyone on Mumsnet how much you don't care about Molly-Mae, how much she annoys you, and how you 'don't even know who she is.' 😂

milkandblackspiders · 10/11/2025 20:45

I almost posted a thread asking this same question! I understand that she is a reality tv influencer type person, but I don't understand why is so very famous, more so than most other similar people.

JudgeBread · 10/11/2025 20:45

I used to work for a company that she was a customer of, she was always a massive cow to our telephone team whenever she called up for anything so I don't like her based solely on that and knowing nothing else about her.

Zov · 10/11/2025 20:46

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Wink

Tiebiter · 10/11/2025 20:47

It must be quite annoying to be an influencer but get offered laundry detergent ads when you were probably hoping for chanel.

Poking pins in you're eyes would be quicker
Another non entity.

Okiedokie123 · 10/11/2025 20:48

As well as “it’s me Molly mae” sorry who??? Please please can the endless adverts for the national lottery, lotto, euro millions, bet 365 and gambling opportunities please stop!
Never have I ever joined in with any of them but the temptation to do so must be really strong for some with it all being advertised so often. A tiny little message about gamble aware doesn’t solve anything.

And the hideously cringey domino advert with the couple in the bath. Urgh!

I never know why people want their washing to smell of stinky chemicals anyway - I won't buy any detergent if there's the slightest whiff when I open the lid. I'm sure she's a very inoffensive young lady but am grateful I can mute the voice (she's on now!!!)

summerlovingvibes · 10/11/2025 20:48

She met her ex partner boxer Tommy Fury (brother to Tyson Fury) on Love Island.

Can't stand her either.

I don't watch adverts, only ever watch programmes pre-recorded on on IPlayer because I just can't stand shit like this!

LivelyMintViper · 10/11/2025 20:50

She's apparently a super influencer. Not on my radar though.

u3ername · 10/11/2025 20:52

Sounds like she’s in her laundry era

PinkArt · 10/11/2025 20:54

She's an influencer and was on Love Island, where she met her partner - and Bambi's dad - Tommy 'half brother of Tyson' Fury. They were on the same series as Maura, who you might have watched on I'm A Celeb.
Molly-Mae had quite a big YouTube following before she was cast, so was the first Love Islander to be a successful influencer before the show and not just after.
Since the show she's carried on influencing, had a deal with Pretty Little Thing where she was labelled their Creative Director 👀 and now has her own clothing brand that sells very dull looking beige clothes. There's also an Amazon series that features her beige house, beige clothes, Bambi, Tommy on facetime and all the stress this is apparently bringing her.
She's fascinatingly nothingy for someone who's been so successful. The likes of Olivia Atwood or Maura Higgins have stayed around because they have big, funny personalities but Molly-Mae is amazingly bland.

TheCryingTheBitchAndTheFloordrobe · 10/11/2025 20:56

God I loathe those adverts and her uncanny-valley plastic face freaks me out a bit.

*edited as I realised I’d made it sound like I loathe her, which I absolutely don’t, I’m sure she’s perfectly fine.

cobrakaieaglefang · 10/11/2025 20:58

Reality tv apparently, so presumably cheap to employ for advertising, let's face it, who would pay for her otherwise.

CoastalGrey · 10/11/2025 21:00

Steady on, I asked a similar question the other week and the thread was deleted. I assume it’s ’not in the spirit of the site’ to wonder how someone who’s intensely annoying, talent-free and actually quite unpleasant (‘oh no I’ve done nothing this summer, only been to Dubai 3 times, poor little me’) has managed to do so well for themselves.
