Who the hell is “Molly-Mae?” Because I’m sick and tired of seeing her doing her laundry!

I got into watching classic coronation street on ITV X and due to being ill with a kidney infection I’ve been watching tv in bed the last few days.

It seems every ad break Molly Mae is popping up on “laundry day” (seriously? 🤔) and I thought she was a child at first until she talks about “Bambi’s clothes”. I was completely confused by this until I realised she must be old enough to have had a child and named her after a cartoon fawn whose mother was murdered which seems a bit questionable.

I don’t know why it annoys me that much (maybe over exposure) but it’s making me want to smash up my TV 😂.
The way she sniffs her washing before proclaiming “that could do with a wash” why else would it be in your laundry basket?!
The rest of the clothes she puts in look clean and I’m wondering if it’s just because doing laundry is her “current obsession”.

I have no idea who she is but I’m guessing some kind of influencer, is this a way to get kids and teens to hassle parents to buy washing detergent on top of everything else they ask for? Does anyone else have “go-to” washing detergent or do they not just buy what’s on offer like I assumed everyone did?
I know it’s a bit mean to say but she has such an annoying voice and is unconvincing at even doing her washing so I doubt she would have a career in acting. I turned the tv off to get a break from her and had a rare scroll on social media and there she was again doing her washing with a pal this time 🙈.

I wish they would at least show different adverts on catch up tv, am I the only one to get this wound up over irritating ones?
The foxy bingo one is another that’s in constant rotation with another woman with an annoying voice over.

I swear I’m losing all tolerance as I get older and finding I get wound up over the smallest things, is this normal?

I was going to post on AIBU but I suspected some people would take me seriously and start the usual nonsense about trying to diagnose me with mental health issues or the people with genuine anger issues would start laying into me. It was either that or asking if I’m quite alright or on glue.
I suppose I best add a disclaimer that this was a lighthearted rant and I’m not throwing rocks at my tv in a fit of rage about an advert - no matter how annoying it is.

She was worth over six million before this ad. I don't blame them for milking their vacuous lives for all it's worth but my goodness they're dense.

One thing she isn’t is dense, actually.

Yet another Z list celebrity who will be forgotten in another year.

Spare a thought for us - she hails from round these parts.
Confused

As well as “it’s me Molly mae” sorry who??? Please please can the endless adverts for the national lottery, lotto, euro millions, bet 365 and gambling opportunities please stop!
Never have I ever joined in with any of them but the temptation to do so must be really strong for some with it all being advertised so often. A tiny little message about gamble aware doesn’t solve anything.

And the hideously cringey domino advert with the couple in the bath. Urgh!

Now that bath one is disturbing!!!

speedtalker · 11/11/2025 07:23

I have a habit of watching an old series one night a week when I’m in and there’s a trailer for something in ITV which keeps coming up and it’s in this vein: two Essexy-speaking types lying around on a sofa in a greige house and there’s a kid who puts on a pair of adult boots and they laugh and say they are tired. And it’s an advert for a TV series about them. Which implies what’s just been shown is a HIGHLIGHT. How boring must the series be?
I guess the audience for this just put telly on in the background, like wallpaper, while they use their phones as it looks SO BORING. I don’t understand why anyone would watch this and why ITV would pay for the content.
I don’t think it’s age: just a different demographic, but totally alien to me.

Sunnymysunshine · 11/11/2025 07:26

Ive found my people! Its like they have one child and suddenly theyre an expert on all things baby and housekeeping! Nope, because clearly they have alot of help , dont have to do it on a budget etc. Its the other girl two, the Irish one who tells you to close the lid with a click clack. Like thanks I was gonna leave that out for the toddler and dog to play with.

OvernightBloats · 11/11/2025 07:37

Why don't they use a male influencer to do these adverts? It annoys me that they choose female influencers. The most positive affect would be to use a male influencer to sell this flowery smelling detergent.

I don't mind Molly Mae. She is making a fast buck while she can. Doubt her earning potential as an influencer will last long.

It’s really about appealing to other young mothers who identify with her, and there are very many,

The flash bathroom ad shows a man cleaning it.
Best way to avoid any ads is just mute them or tape the programme you want to watch and whizz through all the ads !

Mochudubh · 11/11/2025 07:55

@OvernightBloats

To be fair there are detergent ads with Peter Crouch and Usain Bolt but they're almost as bad.

@the80sweregreat And the other Flash one where the teens do the dusting off their own bat....hahahaha!

Luckyingame · 11/11/2025 08:08

I hear you, OP!
Someone irrelevant.

We will all soon be wishing for Molly Mae laundry ads to replace the bloody Christmas ads. (Yes, Asda, I am looking at you. Every arsing ad break, it seems.)

I know what you mean. I am currently streaming Harry Wild on U&Drama and every single ad is a Christmas one - grrr!

Mischance · 11/11/2025 08:15

Influencer ... bloody hell!

Oh, I forgot about the Peter Crouch advert. Can't imagine he ever does the family's washing. Would be very surprised if he does.

A.I. has this comment about Peter Crouch -
'While it is likely that his wife, Abbey Clancy, or other household staff manage the family's general laundry, the Ariel campaign suggests he at least understands the basics of using a washing machine and detergent pods' 😂

What has she done to the farm shop?!

peakedat40 · 11/11/2025 08:22

The comments on here and similar threads are always a bit amusing.

MM is not someone who I ah … identify with. I am a lot older, much plainer and much poorer. We do both have girls born in 2023 but that’s it insofar as what we have in common.

But she isn’t irrelevant. She has a massive influence on young girls and women, absolutely huge, to the point I’m struggling to think of an equivalent.

She is rich. Really rich, stinking rich, incredibly rich. And young. And she’s managed that pretty much solo - yes, she’s had a certain amount of wind behind her kind of luck but just the same, she’s done it.

There is an element of resentment when somebody does this for a talent that isn’t ‘discernible’ but I don’t really have a discernible talent either! If I had the ability to make millions just by going about my daily business I’d do it.

And Bambi is not the worst name I’ve heard. It’s not to my personal taste but my children’s names have been dismissed as boring and too common on here so they aren’t to everybody’s taste either!

I have to say I don’t give a damn about her “go to” washing products. Happily I don’t remember them. But all those ads are awful, whoever does them.

This is true. All laundry ads are shit and annoying, for some reason. What is it about laundry detergent that makes for such terrible adverts?

Iwanttoliveinagardencentre · 11/11/2025 08:32

I agree OP and this is why I pay to avoid adverts.
I assume they must reflect the intellect of their target customers and being constantly reminded of the modern acceptance and celebration of stupidity depresses me.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 11/11/2025 08:35

Yeah, that advert does annoy me, but I'm guessing I'm not the target market!

As it happens, I do actually have a "go-to" detergent brand - always buy the same one but just stock up in bulk when it happens to be on offer.

I couldn't even tell you which brand MM is advertising, so the ad clearly hasn't worked on me.

The one that I find truly unbearable is the ad for Febreze in which the actress is banging on about catching her dog on the couch one more time. It makes me feel quite stabby!

Don't know. I find the Fairy ones with the Irish woman annoying too. But at least they have succeeded to the extent that I know which brand they're advertising. I couldn't even tell you what Molly-Mae's "go-to" brand is!!

Dollymylove · 11/11/2025 08:46

Just another so called "influencer" of little discernable talent who has got where she is because she looks attractive. That's it basically

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 11/11/2025 08:48

I think she is a traveller - and they like cleaning stuff right?

octoverwhelmed · 11/11/2025 08:49

SpottyAardvark · 10/11/2025 20:43

She’s a hologram designed & created by AI to make £billions for Unilever by brainwashing the entire population into buying tons of their crappy stinking laundry products.

I’m an agent of the resistance. I buy Lidl own brand. Cheaper, better & no stupid annoying adverts.

I love this concept of being an agent of the resistance!!
(though prob Unilever make lidls washing powder too!)

what else can we do to resist?

Namechanged999999 · 11/11/2025 09:06

Reminds me of an old ex friend of mine who was so insufferable. She always insisted ‘I have never even heard of the Kardasians’. She thought it made her superior as I had said I watched the programme once to see what it was about and didn’t like it.
