Do you still watch Have I Got News For You?

I haven't watched it for about 20 years but didn't have any negative feelings about the show, just got a bit bored of it. I didn't actually realise it was still a thing today.

I saw some clips today of yesterday's episode online and found it surprisingly unfunny. But I don't know if that's just me - there must be an audience for the show as it keeps getting made. Similarly, I don't find Mrs Brown's Boys funny but I accept there are many people who do.

Do you still watch / enjoy Have I Got News For You?

That's a shame. It improved a lot later on. I was in stitches.

I hadn't watched it for years and have picked it up again recently and still find it funny. I also enjoy QI and loved Mock the Week.

That's the kind of humour that appeals to me.

Both also all scripted..and therefore fake and shite

RampantIvy · 09/11/2025 09:30

It doesn't stop it from being funny though.
I enjoy topical humour.

Was it you who wrote the letter about his sartorial elegance? 😉

I honestly believe it was that part of the show that triggered my dream 🤣

He isn't elegant, he just dresses in an older style.

I still watch it and am gutted that they've scrapped the "a bit more news" version.

Us too, it was always a bit more risqué

WaaWaaPedal · 09/11/2025 21:04

Not funny!? We laughed until we cried at the cooking robot! 😆😆😆

Same here.

I was accused of not having a sense of humour on another thread because I (and a large number of other posters) don't find toilet humour funny. My tastes run to HIGBFY, QI, MTW, observational comedy and more grown up comedy in general.

CrushingOnRubies · 09/11/2025 21:58

Oh didn’t realise they had scrapped the More version. Liked that version more tbh

Goldwren1923 · 10/11/2025 13:40

yes I do

OMG, me too, I couldn't catch my breath, I laughed so hard. Then I woke up in the night and started laughing again thinking about it.

I always find it funny, but the cooking robot was the pinnacle.

BitOutOfPractice · 10/11/2025 14:25

I still watch it and do the ridiculous dance to the theme tune I invented in the early 90s and find It amusing.

Mrs Brown’s Boys makes my teeth itch.

Hahaha there's no better feeling than laughing that hard 😆 We watched it back about 5 times and it was just as funny 😆

We watched it back twice, and the second time DH was laughing so hard he kept farting, which only made us laugh even more 😂

I have a lot of affection for HIGNFY. I watched it as a teenager in the Deayton years and it was a really good way to learn about politics/current affairs. I also have a memory of Merton and Hislop being very decent to a very young Charlotte Church at a time when a lot of older men who should have known better were being absolutely disgusting. And of course they should have been and it shouldn't be remarkable, but I don't think I've ever got the slightest sleazy vibe off either of them. That said I wish they'd have more women on.

I think occasionally they have a series where they lose their way a bit, but I enjoy the time-worn aspect of it. I loved it during lockdown where they did it from their own homes, too; I like that it's not a format that's still simple enough to do that easily.

(Also, the old joke about the street value of the Blue Peter garden still makes me heave with laughter. Not just the joke but the delivery, really.)

Rhaidimiddim · 10/11/2025 22:28

No.

Used to watch now and then.

Went to see a live recording, where the panel weren't really that funny - watched the edited version when it aired and realised how hard the editors worked.

Then Hislop's ignorant dismissals of the gender wars as a serious issue put me right off him and the programme.

When I catch a glimpe now, it all seems very "bubble" and smug.

RecordBreakers · 10/11/2025 23:21

Yes.
It is one of few programmes dh and I watch together.
I've watched it since it started.
Obviously the guests vary - some say very little, the occasional one is poor, plenty can be quite funny.

I'm disappointed this series they've stopped the 'HIGA little bit more NFY' version which included more material.

No idea why you've mentioned Mrs Brown's Boys in your OP as that is a completely different type of humour. I can't see many people liking that and HIGNFY.

Ratafia · 10/11/2025 23:32

Yes. With people like Trump and Farage around, it's pretty essential viewing. In the past, Hislop sounding off about things like the Post Office scandal a long time before it was well known was very well worth listening to.

You can't seriously believe QI is all scripted.

RampantIvy · 10/11/2025 23:39

I read somewhere that QI is one of the few comedy panel shows that isn't scripted.

I really miss Mock the Week.

Arpegios · 10/11/2025 23:41

Holy shit I forgot about the lockdown episodes! I really appreciated the effort they went to to keep the show going, it was a tiny slice or normality at a crazy time. And Helen Lewis took part - she's another one I look forward to seeing on the show.

RecordBreakers · 10/11/2025 23:41

I miss Mock the Week as well.
Shame that was removed from the schedule.
I liked the Mash Report as well.

SuperFi · 11/11/2025 00:25

Stopped Watching after Ian Hislop hounded Paula Yates on the show, he was so vile to her, my god I can bear a grudge that was in the 90s!

mazzikid · 11/11/2025 00:30

My family and I watch every week! We still enjoy it just as much as ever, especially on a busy news week
