Do you still watch Have I Got News For You?

I haven't watched it for about 20 years but didn't have any negative feelings about the show, just got a bit bored of it. I didn't actually realise it was still a thing today.

I saw some clips today of yesterday's episode online and found it surprisingly unfunny. But I don't know if that's just me - there must be an audience for the show as it keeps getting made. Similarly, I don't find Mrs Brown's Boys funny but I accept there are many people who do.

Do you still watch / enjoy Have I Got News For You?

We love it. We still watch the end titles just in case they do a clip like they used to

Arpegios · 08/11/2025 21:13

I always look forward to the Victoria Coren-Mitchell episodes. She "gets it", is clearly a long time fan of the show and is able to cut through the blokiness that sometimes spoils it.

Nifty50something · 08/11/2025 21:14

I still watch it. It has on weeks and off weeks and I find some of the humour not particularly funny such as the constant jokes about Ian Hisloo being out of touch with popular culture. I do like certain hosts such as Victoria Coren Mitchell for example.

I think it comes across as so obviously scripted rather than off the cuff recently. Panel members say something in response to a news item that sounds really unnatural, that then feeds into a 'funny' line from one of the others. There were a couple of examples last night but I can't remember them now.

SwedishEdith · 08/11/2025 21:33

Yes, still watch. Some weeks are better than others but still mostly enjoy it.

pizzaHeart · 08/11/2025 21:33

I love it.
I haven’t seen the very last one yet, DH and I usually watch it on Sunday evening. I love the concept of it, obviously some episodes are more funny than others it depends on who is invited

I wasn’t keen on Mock the week.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 08/11/2025 21:33

Stopped when they joined in on the national bullying of Jeremy Corbyn xx

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/11/2025 21:34

Yes.

CurlewKate · 08/11/2025 21:35

Wishing14 · 08/11/2025 20:51

@CurlewKateoh you’re right, no I’ve never seen him before.

Surprised you think they avoid difficult issues then….

CrushingOnRubies · 08/11/2025 21:37

I like HIGNFY. Yes the format hasn’t changed but because of the nature of the show the content is different every week. As such it’s good to watch after a busy where you know what to expect and
most of the news. But they’re take on it is very funny but it’s not taxing

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 08/11/2025 21:37

I switched off last night, don't find Katherine Ryan funny at all.

ninjahamster · 08/11/2025 21:37

Yes I love it!

MissyB1 · 08/11/2025 21:58

Yes, still enjoy it, but they never seem to mention Israel/Gaza….

Weirdly after last night’s episode I dreamed I was getting it on with Ian Hislop Wtf! 😂

Owly11 · 08/11/2025 22:00

I have watched it for more years than i care to think about but it has finally become unfunny. Such a shame but it had to happen at some point. Nothing lasts for ever.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 08/11/2025 22:31

I watched it this week for the first time in years.

The slipping robot nearly ended me and DH. We had to rewind so we could watch it again 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Lottapianos · 08/11/2025 22:38

'Saying that I’ve just seen Katherine Ryan hosted this weeks so may attempt it'

She wasn't great, think it was the wrong format for her. Steph McGovern, Jo Brand and Victoria Coren are brilliant hosts, they cut through the boys club atmosphere

Chanelo · 08/11/2025 22:43

I love it when Miles Jupp is on.

ChocolateBoxCottage · 08/11/2025 22:56

I watch it and find it funny. I avoid the news as I can absorb it without trying (radio, Internet etc) at my tolerance level for doom and gloom.

I also half watch question time but you'd never catch me sitting through the lunchtime or evening news. Politics is a load of shit. My son is really into politics and I think would be ideal for a career in it. We binged watched 'The thick of it' before he left for uni I September. I had to agree it's so close to the bone.

My mp is too busy to see me after a month of repeated requests, but he was filming more less outside my house about traffic in my road. I'm facing my child being forced into a private SEN school twenty miles away via a taxi as the local state academy is refusing all EHCPs. That will cost £150,000 plus a year on their education and taxi. My mp could not give a single shit. But he does care about traffic lights. How much do one set of traffic lights cost? Years 7 -13 times £150,000? His constituency will never find out their council goes on. The opposition was at the academy praising their sen outcomes blissfully missing the fact that the vast majority of catchment SEN kids are refused a place.its corrupt it make Trump and Prince Andrew look like saints

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 08/11/2025 22:58

Yes. Most are funny but you do get the odd dud in every series.

Crikeyalmighty · 08/11/2025 23:02

I watch it - some episodes very funny, some not so much so but given how little satire is on TV these days I do feel I want to support it

PigletJohn · 08/11/2025 23:05

Yes.

Though they have both got very old, and sometimes Paul is bored and makes no effort.

PurpleSky300 · 08/11/2025 23:05

Haven't watched it in many years. In my mind, Paul Merton and Ian Hislop are frozen in about 2002. I always feel pretty shocked when I see current photos and see how much they have aged.

Genevieva · 08/11/2025 23:05

No. I stopped some time after the Brexit vote as they lost their sense of humour and became sanctimonious. The whole point is to find the laugh in every situation.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/11/2025 23:32

Always been funny, always will be funny. Still brilliant.

pizzaHeart · 08/11/2025 23:38

Just watched the last one and it was very funny.
