Do you still watch Have I Got News For You?

I haven't watched it for about 20 years but didn't have any negative feelings about the show, just got a bit bored of it. I didn't actually realise it was still a thing today.

I saw some clips today of yesterday's episode online and found it surprisingly unfunny. But I don't know if that's just me - there must be an audience for the show as it keeps getting made. Similarly, I don't find Mrs Brown's Boys funny but I accept there are many people who do.

Do you still watch / enjoy Have I Got News For You?

Never, it’s no longer funny and they’re too scared to talk about difficult issues, which comedy always should.

Really? Have you seen Ian Hislop?

Cakeandcardio · 08/11/2025 20:12

Watch it consistenly and find it very funny. I don't like Mrs B's Boy's but laugh out loud at HIGNFY

Vitriolinsanity · 08/11/2025 20:14

Yes, I’ve watched it forever and now with my teen DS who is doing politics A level. I also buy the Spectator.

I always enjoy have I got news for you. Mrs Browns boys however, I have never found amusing in the slightest.

Netcam · 08/11/2025 20:17

Yes, brilliant stuff still!

Lou7171 · 08/11/2025 20:18

I find it funny!

I'm not sure I forgive them for the Boris Johnson years though

2007ish. Actually it was likely a back-catalogue episode on xmas day, on Dave, because all my housemates had buggered off so it was just me and the TV that day.

You, Merton, Hislop and Angus. What a Christmas that must’ve been..!

eta actually Angus D had probably been sacked by then! God, time has gone fast.

TubeScreamer · 08/11/2025 20:19

Yes. There’s the odd dud one but I think it is more important than ever before as there is very little other political comedy on tv.

loathe Mrs Browns boys. The worst show on tv.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 08/11/2025 20:20

i still watch it - and miss the other comedy topical issues shows that have been removed (including Mock the Week on tv, and The Now Show on BBC radio), and the fact they have a dreadful host for the News Quiz.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 08/11/2025 20:23

Yes I enjoy it..l

WaaWaaPedal · 08/11/2025 20:26

I love HIGNFY! Ian is very well informed and not afraid to call anyone out. Please don't compare it to Mrs Brown's Boys! 🤢🤢😆

sillyrubberduck · 08/11/2025 20:27

Yes and love it .

LonelyFans · 08/11/2025 20:30

I still enjoy it. It varies week to week depending who is on, and what news there has been. But it still has flashes of brilliance.

I wish there was more decent stuff around .

Agree with whoever said Mock the Week was awful

CalmShaker · 08/11/2025 20:33

There have been a couple of great stand out episodes of HIGNFY , the Brian Blessed one comes to mind but I don't watch it that often really. I am completely convinced though it elevated the career of Boris Johnson and led him to become Prime Minister.

Mrs Brown Boys is unbelievably bad, when I think of the quality sitcoms that have been made over the years and then to see this it makes me sad

Agree I remember saying even as they gave him a platform how dangerous that was. It was one of the few times I had an argument with an acquaintance about politics because they thought Boris was brilliant and I thought he was the most dangerous political figure we had

I didn't want to win the argument but I knew when he illegally prorogued parliament that I had been right.

captainoctopus · 08/11/2025 20:41

Yes. For Hislop. We need many more satire shows.

AgentPidge · 08/11/2025 20:41

I still enjoy it. Sometimes it's really brilliant and feels cutting edge. Last week's was good - Ian Hislop challenging that politician (another guest) who was sacked after claiming her phone was stolen. But last night's wasn't that great.

Bbq1 · 08/11/2025 20:42

We love it's. It's very funny.

SauvignonBlanche · 08/11/2025 20:46

Have watched it for years, still enjoy it.
It can be hit or miss.

Polaris81 · 08/11/2025 20:46

It’s far too partisan/biased for me.

Hislop and Merton are also insufferably smug.

Wishing14 · 08/11/2025 20:51

@CurlewKateoh you’re right, no I’ve never seen him before.

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/11/2025 20:53

We always watch it. Some days are better than others but it can be really funny.

I absolutely hate Mrs Brown's Boys.

TerrierSlave · 08/11/2025 20:54

No, not unless I’m at other peoples houses when they have it on. I used to love it but it’s been dire for many years now. Martin and Hislop rarely ever crack an actual joke these days, they barely even try. It needs a rest or a refresh or something.

SkippingClara · 08/11/2025 21:00

No. Used to. Too pleased with themselves and biased now.

Wishing14 · 08/11/2025 21:01

Saying that I’ve just seen Katherine Ryan hosted this weeks so may attempt it. I USED to find it hilarious but it’s been progressively getting worse for years. I also did’t appreciate them not covering the Supreme Court ruling.
