My sister joked about my getting Botox in front of a room full of people

I told my sister I got Botox for the first time a month or so ago. Asked her not to tell anyone (my parents are old school and would be affronted). It was my surprise brothers 40th party recently and my sister joked in front of everyone that if it was my birthday you wouldn’t know I was surprised as my fave doesn’t move. Queue everyone looking at me and my mom asking me later on if it’s true. My sister says it was a joke and I’m overreacting but it really embarrassed me and also broke my trust

She’s jealous

Ok well that aside. If you asked your sister not to tell someone and her announced it basically to everyone in your family, is that ok?

No

*Cue.

A bit annoying on her part, but not worth being upset over.

My eyebrows always go Spock-like until I go back after 2 weeks and get it corrected. So no-one can miss when I get Botox.

A bit annoying. What is wrong with people. She asked her sister not to say anything and she announced it in the most public place. It was done on purpose probably out of jealousy.

Purplecatshopaholic · 04/11/2025 20:37

Blimey, your sister’s a bit of a cow isn’t she. The Botox is a side issue - you asked her not to share something you told her in confidence. Not only does she break your trust, she does so by talking about it to a whole group of people. Shitty thing to do - I’d be furious, and wanting an apology. Don’t trust her again op.

Sorry people seem to be more hung up on you getting botox than answering your question.
I think your sister was out of order breaking your confidence and you have every right to be upset.
ps. If Botox is done right then it can be very natural and create a fresher look rather than a frozen face …lots of anti Botox people on MN

I was out for dinner with my friend and noticed that she looked really lovely and radiant. She told she had had botox that day and I really had no idea. It was so well done.

Anyway, that is NOT the point. It doesn't matter if the whole room knew she had Botox; when you ask someone not to repeat it, you expect them not to repeat it. It isn't for them to decide it's OK to say because other people can tell. That's your decision.

She was probably glowing from the fact she'd treated herself. Botox takes up to a week or so to kick in.

BigDeepBreaths · 04/11/2025 21:18

Your sister was a dick.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/11/2025 21:27

@Hairy396 is your sister always a bit of a frenemy? 🤔

pinkyredrose · 04/11/2025 21:27

FWIW fillers and botox are always incredibly noticeable

Only if they've been overdone. Subtle work wouldn’t be noticeable. People often think that cosmetic surgery is noticeable too, it really isn't if done well and subtly.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 04/11/2025 21:30

Yeah your sisters a bitch for doing that.

Dis you pull her up on it?

It will be - otherwise there's no point in paying out money or putting yourself through those procedures. The whole point is to create a noticeable difference (with 'noticeable' covering a wide ground), and as people age that difference becomes more obvious.

Almondflour · 04/11/2025 21:40

I wonder if responses would be similar if it was someone „joking” about their sister having weight loss injections in front of a large group of people.
After all everyone can tell when someone is on them anyway….

SeaUrchinHat · 04/11/2025 22:05

When your ego finally dies none of this kind of shit matters. It’s so freeing. You had Botox, you’re presumably happy with it: own your decision. Why be embarrassed about it? It wasn’t great of your sister but it’s up to you how you react. Just choose a lighter path.

It really isn't 'the whole point'.

popdepop · 05/11/2025 03:25

Some people might notice, others might not. You are having botox for you and you can 'own it' without drawing attention to it. Someone i know had it and I couldn't tell at all! Anyway, thats not the issue. The issue is your sister knowingly drew attention to it when you asked her not to. Yes, shes being a bitch, who knows why. Thoughtless?

Suednymph · 05/11/2025 06:32

Incredible the amount pushing the botox thing as if that is the issue. It is not. You told your sister to keep it to herself and not only did she not she announced it to a room full people. Whether they would have noticed or not is not the issue, it actually is not always obvious but that is not the discussion.

Liken it to telling your sister you just found out you were 4 months pregnant but did not want it public knowledge and then she announced it to a room full of people. Posters would be hopping mad at the injustice of it. Yes you could possibly notice a bump at 4 months but people turn a blind eye till the person themselves mentions it. She did this out of pure malice and/or spite and I would not be talking to her in confidence about anything else again.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 05/11/2025 06:54

Sounds like shes jealous of you for having it for some reason

ComfortFoodCafe · 05/11/2025 07:20

She sounds jealous. My brother has to have over 30 botox injections in his face every 3 months for severe migraines, you cant tell at all. So doubt anyone would notice only a couple botox injections.

TheCheekyCyanHelper · 05/11/2025 08:50

Tourmalines · 04/11/2025 08:04

She was mean and snarky because you told her not to mention it . And no, not everyone can tell you’ve had Botox . I get my 11s done every now and again ,not one person can tell.

Yes they can.

Branwells77 · 05/11/2025 08:55

Hairy396 · 04/11/2025 08:03

Thank you. That’s how I feel.
im not embarrassed about getting Botox and I’m happy with the results. If someone asked me at the party I would have said yes but I agree she was being horrible

Your sister was definitely out of line for what she done to you possibly a bit of jealousy on her part it’s always a hard lesson finding out you can’t trust someone but at least now you know not to tell her anything OP

Tourmalines · 05/11/2025 09:12

TheCheekyCyanHelper · 05/11/2025 08:50

Yes they can.

No they can’t .

GreatFish · 05/11/2025 10:35

Is your sister normally jealous of you.Joke or no joke she should have respected you enough not to say anything after you had already asked her not to mention the botox.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 05/11/2025 10:44

traintonowheretoday · 04/11/2025 07:51

Why have Botox if you aren’t going to own your decision? What’s embarrassing about it? At some point people would get suspicious about your face not moving / aging so you could hardly keep secret and if no one noticed what would have been the point in getting it done

My parents haven’t noticed mine but would be very upset I was doing it so I wouldn’t tell them. The point of Botox is to maintain youth and to NOT change

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 05/11/2025 10:45

TheCheekyCyanHelper · 05/11/2025 08:50

Yes they can.

That’s silly. It’s like saying you can tell if someone is a fake blonde. Obviously if it’s done drastically or badly you can tell, but if it’s subtle then you can’t

BrassyLocks · 05/11/2025 10:59

It's no one's business but yours, regardless of whether or not people can tell. I have treatments done and I take medication for various health issues that I choose to keep private because that's how I prefer it. Your sister was 100% in the wrong and I hope she apologised.
