@MewithME sometimes if you can't laugh you cry!

Well done for taking charge of the meeting, you'll probably get promoted now.

Sorry about all the problems. You sound worn out. Hope you get some answers.

Thank you! We're down for respites only at the moment after a long term placement ended back in June this year. We were asked for two more respites after little boy left but with hubby being so sick we had to say no.

Very wise, I imagine you need to be on top form to do everything needed. It's a wonderful thing to do.

Hahaha ...no I won't. New boss doesn't like me I don't think. Reckon my face doesn't fit with the new management team. I had best not say too much more as I have already been very identifying.

I am not expecting anything at the doctor's tbh. I think she is more comfortable doing more tests and that's fine, to make sure I'm not assuming it is down to the MEcfs when it isn't. But she talks about chronic fatiguey/fibro-y type of thing.... Which doesn't inspire confidence.

@FurForksSake Fingers firmly crossed it all goes ahead as planned on Friday!

Swanhilde · 11/11/2025 17:22

Better, usual day today. Legs are achy though so my acupuncturist's magic needles have worn off. No stairs were climbed, honest - although I did yesterday as their lift was out of order! Will see what the GP suggests (if anything) on Thursday.

Home in bed with a cuppa now. Not liking the drive home in the dark and wet. It's v short (back in the day I'd have walked it) but even so. Too much concentration needed.

DH is cooking tea then another early night I think. Restful evenings to you all 💕

FurForksSake · 11/11/2025 17:36

I have made five containers of red cabbage for Christmas, it is a little apple heavy, but it’s nice enough. I’ll keep three and mil will have two.

ds and I refilled the coconut birdfeeders finally. I bought the lard ages ago and just haven’t bothered. It was a nice activity whilst I sat at the kitchen table and mil was on the kitchen sofa.

MewithME · 11/11/2025 17:37

@FurForksSake I love red cabbage at Xmas 🎄

Me too @FurForksSake - what's your recipe? I've tried loads over the years and like to try new ones 🎄

🤫 But I may have bought 2 presents this week!

MewithME · 11/11/2025 18:04

@Swanhilde I just do it freestyle 😆

I'll think about it and post in a bit. I must go make tea for my boy. Lying in bed right now. The struggle to move is real! But I shall have to. I'm hungry too.

I do the delia traditional braised cabbage. I found one of the chopped things in the cupboard which also has a mandolin and it made chopping the onions and the apples much easier! I finished it off with some butter and redcurrant jelly.

It's getting real now! Once we're past Bonfire Night the present panic sets in. I've enjoyed buying baby socks and bodysuits (requested) and a 'baby xylophone' - actually it's a glockenspiel, as it's got metal keys, but no sharp edges or pokey bits. Strict instructions from DD2 for nothing electronic! Everyone else is over 12, so they know what they like.

MewithME · 11/11/2025 18:55

The Xmas present chat is making me feel tired. I will have to start but I just don't want to. Maybe I'll start with...ME!

I realised a few years ago that I don't get anything really unless I buy my own. Mum just sends money. My brother doesn't always bother. No partner. Autistic DS never had any help so has never bought me anything. A couple of friends get me something but that's it.

So Santa will be good to me cos I bloody deserve it. Seriously, no idea why I'm single. I'm the best girlfriend ever. My presents to myself are great! ; )

Right red cabbage. ...

I fry red onion and finely chop the cabbage. Chuck it in. I think there may be some garlic in there. Then dark brown sugar, some sort of wine vinegar, chopped apple... sultanas or some other dried fruit...think cranberries went in last year.

I am probably drinking wine by then so maybe some red gets sloshed in... Cloves, cinnamon stick, salt, pepper, probably nutmeg.... And then some sort of gelatinous something like redcurrant jelly, chutney or jam.

It all sort of cooks down and I adjust to taste.

It is VERY scientific 😆

@MewithME nobody knows what to get me but ME! I just make a list of books I fancy during the year, and they appear on Christmas morning. Or I link to some silk thermals (not romantic but I do feel the cold!) so you're just cutting out the middle man!

I hallucinated this year's birthday present!

I was watching a property programme and saw a vintage copper jardiniere in someone's country kitchen. Ooh I thought that would be lovely for some bulbs. So I looked and looked all over the internet, getting very frustrated. It was obviously an old cooking pan, with a pouring lip and two handles, but I couldn't find anything remotely similar. I even drew it from memory, to explain to DH and DD what I was looking for.

Now my visual memory is terrible, so I was quite pleased that I'd remembered it in such detail. After boring DH with my quest for a few weeks I found the very programme and freeze framed the kitchen scene. Well...it was absolutely nothing like I'd remembered! Talk about false memory syndrome...no lip, no handles, no distinguishing features. I felt a bit silly.

A few weeks later I found it on eBay! I decided it had my name on it and requested it for my birthday. I always ask for potted bulbs so am looking forward to a nice display.

MewithME · 11/11/2025 20:33

@TeaAndStrumpets love that 😆 Glad you got it.

I've been looking at little cauldrons for tea lights. I am drawn to witchiness in my old age. Don't quite want to take all my Halloween bits down.

Morning! I’ve got a catch up with my boss shortly, I hate these but I don’t want to be sacked and it’s just my anxiety and social phobia making it hard.

DH invited his mum to spend the day here again and I lost it. I don’t want to babysit his mum for another day, I want to relax and look after myself. Otherwise I sit in chairs j shouldn’t and get up and down too much and feel stressed. He’s taking her out for a little drive and a coffee instead.

DS1 has a cold! I have told him he can’t come anywhere near me and once I’ve dealt with the work call I will be using some dettol wipes to wipe switches and surfaces and opening all the windows. I’ll be asking him to hang out in his bedroom this evening. I feel mean but I cannot get ill. Very, very stressed which is not helping!

TeaAndStrumpets · 12/11/2025 10:08

@FurForksSake hope you avoid the cold! It's one more thing to stress about. Is there an anti viral nasal spray, or am I imagining it? Anyway good idea to isolate yourself a bit. Once you get to the hospital you will relax.

I thought the night time adrenaline rushes had stopped but it was back last night so am having a very calm day today! Possibly connected but my IBS d is ramping up again, so need a hot water bottle for the pain. There's always bloody something.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/11/2025 11:02

I've been to the supermarket, but DH has a migraine so I'm on carer duties today. It's raining and yuk outside so it's no hardship to stay in.

TeaAndStrumpets · 12/11/2025 11:34

Agree @FuzzyPuffling it's just miserable out there! Stay cosy.

TodayIsatrickyone · 12/11/2025 13:40

@FuzzyPuffling I think rubbish weather at least makes staying in less of a hardship!

@TeaAndStrumpets thats frustrating re the adrenaline surges. Hope they settle again tonight.

@FurForksSake Definitely a good plan to keep a distance from your son wirh a cold and I’m sure you don’t need the stress of entertaining MIL just before your op.

There is a nasal spray, I bought it last year from Boots. think it’s called first defence? My DD seems to pick up one cold after another, she’s had covid multiple times and her immune system isn’t the best bless her. I also feel bad distancing but know any infection sets me way back.

Not too bad here, not great but not as dreadful as last week so I’ll take that. Caught up with some laundry as it was quite the mountain yesterday and doing a bit of online xmas browsing for ideas from the sofa.

A dry day here and tempting to get the scooter out and join DH on a short dog walk but I think that would definitely be pushing it so going to avoid the temptation.

FurForksSake · 12/11/2025 13:50

I made some Christmas cards!

What are you up to today if you have chronic illness? Thread 3
TeaAndStrumpets · 12/11/2025 14:01

@TodayIsatrickyone "not as dreadful as last week" sums it up beautifully! I am so grateful for each tiny improvement.

I have had better heartrate the last few days. I insisted on trimming DH hair just now and although I felt a bit shaky HR only went to 115 after ten minutes standing. I really couldn't have done that last week. Not exactly Vidal Sassoon standard, but slightly better than the dragged through hedge backward look! I am resting on my laurels now. I think, like you, it will be Christmas shopping from the sofa!

The IBS is annoying. In September I tried some probiotics and reacted really badly to them...haven't been the same since.

TeaAndStrumpets · 12/11/2025 14:02

Wow @FurForksSake they are really nice!

TodayIsatrickyone · 12/11/2025 15:10

@FurForksSake those are fab! Well done.

Swanhilde · 12/11/2025 17:00

End of my working week - yay 🥳

I am knackered and my legs are stiff and sore but I am resting up now.

Some good news is that I passed my final probation meeting this afternoon and have had no sick days since I started the job 9 months ago. That also calls for a 🥳

DH and I will be going out to celebrate tomorrow ☕🫖🍰
