Speaking of Tories, Badenoch has been leader for a year now. Which, if I have understood the rules correctly, means she has lost her immunity to a no confidence vote.

Speaking of Tories, Badenoch has been leader for a year now. Which, if I have understood the rules correctly, means she has lost her immunity to a no confidence vote.

But who would take her place.

The Tories have managed to get themselves out of step with the political cycle of the UK. Which began when Diddy David Cameron did a runner and left them one leader out of step with reality.

This was openly - albeit briefly - acknowledged when they ran the idea of a "caretaker" leader that would finish off Theresa Mays spell (after the 2017 election) and then prepare the ground for the second coming in the form of Big Dog Boris. Which would be needed to avoid Boris having to deal with Brexit by being able to blame his predecessor for whatever was agreed.

However even in the Tory party they couldn't find anyone that fucking stupid, and eventually Boris ego won the day against all the advice he received.

This then led to the musical chairs that gave us Truss and Sunak. And now Badenoch.

People who remember the Hague -> Duncan Smith->Howard years will get the idea.

PandoraSocks · 03/11/2025 17:29

Big Dog. That takes me back. Didn't we have a Big Dog thread title at one point.

People who remember the Hague -> Duncan Smith->Howard years will get the idea.

Yes, it’s very reminiscent of that time. A political period I enjoyed and look back on with great fondness.

We did! It gave me the shudders to hear it repeated in the context of the otherwise entertaining Celebrity Traitors Grin

To be fair, Labour had the same. Foot->Kinnock->Smith (RIP) and finally Blair.

It's highly likely that the next leader of the Conservatives will have been born after 1997.

Being a child of the 60s, I grew up in the 70s. However my formative years in High School, 6th form, Uni and thence into work happened under the Tories.

Edited

Do a thread in chat where ONLY people who love Reform UK can have a, you know, chat. Problem solved.

Thank me later

Perhaps garage would like to start by surrendering his MEP pension. It's not like he did anything to earn it.

What’s the betting no journalists asked him if was planning to, he seems very keen on dismantling pension provision.

The Westminenders and the Partygate threads kind of
merged into these.

Big dog was because of the save big dog campaign, a phrase coined by the boris fans.

At some point I took over starting the threads, it was never meant to be a long running theme Halo

Nobody asked about his housing situation either.

You are a most excellent custodian of the thread commencement and application of titles.

SerendipityJane · 03/11/2025 17:57

There was a period when they were throwing everyone under the bus to save him,

Our grandkids will laugh as they learn how Brexit was passed around the Tory leadership like a ticking bomb. (Spot the Yes Minister allusion about "transport muggins" 😀)

Notonthestairs · 03/11/2025 18:04

Operation Save Big Dog was the list of people Johnson wanted to resign over Partygate - Reynolds etc.

‘Young Tories are fed up’: the students switching to Reform in big numbers | Reform UK | The Guardian https://share.google/WV66D5lhZsjppANNK

Ooh, I recognised those buildings without even having to click the link. I never thought of it as a posh uni but people were still getting used to its next door neighbour no longer being known as a poly, back then.

True. That’s one way of looking at it.

I think we should be welcoming to visitors, placemats. Even if that compliment is not returned. Though I understand why you feel the way you do.

There is no Labour fans thread either, that doesn't stop people talking about it as if there is

We might have different reasons for wanting to see the boat crossings stopped but any life saved is worth something, don't you agree?

We keep off the Labour isn't working thread... maybe try keeping off this one.
