Brands you (unreasonably) dislike?

I was thinking about this tonight as I parked next to a Renault SUV. It’s completely unreasonable but I’ve never liked the brand since someone I know once said ‘it’s like driving a bin on wheels’. Even though I’m sure the brand is perfectly fine (and very popular) it’s stuck in my head. Apologies to all Renault drivers!

I’ve got other brands I unreasonably dislike too but do you have any?

French Connection, as I can’t stand the FCUK logo.
Nestle (the baby milk scandal)

Duplicate post- sorry!

I really don't like that combo on children.

I call it British-Scandi.

I think its supposed to look as though they "throw it all together" anything-goes style in the blink of an eye because they cannot wait to be out doing bark etchings or tree hugging or painting a post-modernist artwork.

I am sure in fact it took hours of wrestling them into while mum dejectedly gave up on the Bircher muesli breakfast because of the whinging and hauled out the leftover McDonalds cheeseburgers from the fridge.

And the look is always accessorised with a runny nose.

ETA and you forgot to mention the gaily coloured footwear: crocs or multi-coloured wellies (for the supermarket) that have them almost tripping over every third step.

Edited

I used to live near a Rudolf Steiner school and this was the parent/child demographic tripping past my window every morning.

Oh yes, so unnecessary!

Probably with a few of them on those wooden toddler bikes with no wheels (or is it pedals?) or whatever that children much prefer to use as machine guns?

Is Octupus Energy classed as a brand? I'll never switch to them , because of their annoying radio ads.

Another vote for Morrisons. I can't explain it but our store feels so unwelcoming , tired and old fashioned.

Muscle Food. Will never order again after a trillion marketing emails after buying a pack of overpriced underwhelming meat.

Läderach, which is now available in London for a small fortune and is a Guardian outrage story waiting to happen given the views of its proprietors. And Aeschbach. Oh and Cailler in the supermarket.

It’s not really true to say the Swiss don’t eat Lindt though. It’s everywhere, just not quite as aspirational a brand. Sprüngli, its cake-making former arm, is properly posh though.

Edited

Ah that makes sense, thanks @Dolphinnoises I have friends in Zurich who are frequently in Sprüngli and they have excellent (but expensive) taste usually if you ignore their Eurotrash-esque obsession with labels. They dress like they’ve robbed the LV/Hermes showroom but despite that they’re actually lovely people. And clearly know their cake (which is reassuring).

I think it’s Qatar business class that gives out Laderach chocolates with their coffee (when served inflight).

Is it the ceiling heights in Morrisons? I have only visited a couple but both struck me as being accommodated in old aircraft hangars.

Lorent · 30/10/2025 17:49

Another vote for Purdey and Figg. The advertising is sexist - nearly ALWAYS women doing the cleaning - and so poorly conceived. The twee, aren't-we-fabness is annoying, and the whole thing seems really cynical and disingenuous. Plus the friends I know who have tried P&F think it's shit and have to jump through hoops to disentangle themselves from their subscriptions.

Also Yankee Candle (smell so synthetic) and Jo Malone (cheap, nasty ingredients with an epically successful PR job).

Boden and Joules.

Never heard of either of them outside of MN.

They just make me think of the people who ‘clutch their pearls’ and shop in Waitrose.

I notice that “clutching pearls” on MN often means just having a basic personal standard above ‘Shameless’.

Lilyowl · 30/10/2025 17:50

Tesco for introducing the concept of "club card prices". Discounts used to be accessible without the admin, and harvesting of personal information.

EleanorReally · 30/10/2025 17:52

Persil non biological

i cannot stand the smell, i have such a strong aversion to it, after working in residential home,
my dm uses it and i cannot bear the smell of her washing!

Haha spot on, and none of them would have a telly in their house. Anytime we had a Steiner kid for a play date I couldn’t haul them away from the screen.

These have made me laugh but I agree with a lot of them. In particular Michael Kors (trying so hard to be a top end designer but in reality is just high street crap with a naff logo).

Also, not a brand but I actually cannot stand Morrisons as a supermarket. I can shop at literally any other supermarket but I actually panic when I have to set foot in a Morrisons. The layout, the price labels and signs... I don't know why but the whole experience sets me on edge and I just need to get out of there as quick as possible 😂

Michael Kors stopped being fashionable or high end the moment UK teens were sporting their bags to go to school. Hasn't recovered in my eyes since.

Morrisons need to do a complete overhaul of their stores, absolutely shocking. The only decent one I've set foot in over the last few years was near Leeds.

JulianClarysDog · 30/10/2025 17:53

Agree. Prior to that whole FCUK logo distasteful moronic-ness, French connection used to be really great. I barely look at their stuff now.

😂

But they don't need one at home because "the kids hate it."

Mansionscoldandgrey · 30/10/2025 17:55

Amazon; I really don't want to contribute to knob shaped rockets whilst watching decent high street shops die.

I can't believe that people still dust off 'pearl clutching.' It was mildly amusing for a short time on MN about 10 years ago. It's a boring, somewhat sexist trope now.

But it still gets wheeled out, as a smirky, humourless little attempt at a put down.

I buy petrol station chocolate a local Petrol station that has a car wash I like ( you just sit there quietly and the machinery goes backwards and forwards over you no tracks to rip your tires off). A small bar is perfect.

I feel soothed just reading that!

A model rather than a brand - but I have a very specific problem with the Nissan Qashqai, after a random Google search elicited the an AI response to the question "Is the Nissan Qashquai the worst car in the world?"

I had no intention of buying a Nissan Qashqui, but now I consider them to be the worst car in the world.

I often come into contact with recovery drivers in my job. I always ask them what the car they feel they have to go out to most often is.

Almost always they say the Nissan Qashqui. I often end up with one as a work hire car. Being a hire car they are usually relatively new and I haven’t had a problem with one personally, although I dislike the adaptive cruise control on automatic Nissans.

It’s saving grace though is that isn’t as ugly as the Puke - sorry, Juke.

Proctor and gamble, the likes of fairy liquid, Ecover used to be ok, I still mainly to Bio D, cheaper uk, and effective, no need for colour and cheap in cleaning stuff.
Ecover doesn’t work well in very hard water, now owned by Johnson and Johnson who also own method

Ffs why are the big conglomerates buying up all the eco brands? Well I know why, it’s just annoying.
