Just thought I'd scratch off a £2 card to get a pound for the trolley (no cash back anymore ???), and I've won £5. The doors have opened up for me now. Brainstorming what to spend it on!😆

Very true

I had a win on the lottery. I went to the newsagent where I got the ticket from to claim my winnings. I had quite a queue behind me. The chap said they didn’t hold that much cash in their till and I would have to go elsewhere. There was a lot of interest from the queue behind me. For my own safety I disclosed the amount of my win to the people in the shop. I did not want to be mugged on the way out for the princely sum of £70!

Years ago, I used to play bingo at one of the big hall things (I think it was Gala), and someone there won £16k on the nationwide one. Pretty much everyone stood up to see who it was.
I think if that was me, I would be asking to be sneaked out a fire exit and get straight into a taxi.

😂

Comicalblackcat · 30/10/2025 19:45

Do be careful of what you spend it on. 🤔 Four pages of giggles just what I needed, thank you 🤣🤣🤣

Covacsy · 30/10/2025 19:46

I've just won £5 and a lucky dip. Thank goodness I've seen this thread, I need all the advice I can get. 🍾🍾🍾

Have you thought about the tax implications? What about setting up a trust?

Yes, be careful 😂

gillefc82 · 30/10/2025 20:27

Not to brag @confusedlady10 but last Friday I received a letter (with cheque attached) from the British Heart Foundation congratulating me on winning £5 in their lottery! DH and I must have been under a lucky star that day, as we then went on to score a £2.50 windfall on the Euromillions.

DH wants to splurge on a luxury holiday but I’m leaning towards investing in stocks and shares to continue growing our nest egg. After much discussion, we’ve agreed to have a meeting with a financial advisor who can guide us to the best route for making the most of our winnings.

Congratulations dont spend it all at once!

MummytoE · 30/10/2025 20:55

Are you getting the money over 25 years or going to get the lump sum?

ReyRey12 · 30/10/2025 21:40

Be careful, majority of lottery winners end up bankrupt in a few years.

Five trolley tokens. One each for your car, your purse, the zipped pocket in your handbag you never go into, your key fob and your coat pocket.

You will never need change for the trolley again.😂

It’s a fantastic idea in principal.

Alas there are now 4 trolley tokens and a £1 coin on top of the cupboard next to my laundry basket. I just don’t think those tokens like being left in the car!

JifNtGif · 30/10/2025 22:50

I won £550 000 on a lottery and to be honest, nothing really changed much. I was happier with the £500 I won on premium bonds last month as I just spent that on a holiday and didn't have to think about how "best " to use it much !

Atsocta · 30/10/2025 22:56

Just don’t let in change you 😂

FenceBooksCycle · 30/10/2025 22:57

Don't forget to give 10% to charity or bad luck will fall on whatever else you spend it on.

Crispynoodle · 30/10/2025 23:10

This reminds me of something DH said the other Sunday: ‘We haven’t won the lottery………that’s 21 years in a row!’

Littlejacksmummy · 30/10/2025 23:12

I actually won £1000 on Monday. On one of those competition sites. I put a few tickets on for some luxury advent calendars just for the fun of it and had an email on Monday morning after being part of a draw. Actually delighted that the kids Xmas presents (strict £100 budget) are sorted and I've ordered a replacement for my old wonky £99 phone. It was £300 so a real luxury. Although refurbished 🤣 as a mummy of a 4 and 5 year old with a part time job, it's so nice to be able to have a breather. Although I will never buy another ticket, it's easy to see how gambling addiction starts 🤣 I've won my prize and I'm so delighted.

I suppose you've already handed in your notice.

Money can change people so getting emotional as well as financial advice might be wise.

Bluecrystal2 · 31/10/2025 02:49

A while ago there was a story about a man who thought he'd won big time on the lottery. He gave in his notice immediately and told his boss he'd always hated him. When he checked again he found he'd got the date wrong and was now jobless and penniless.

Don't forget the 10% for charity. And please, don't spend it all in one place. Spread the joy. 😆😊😉

ImogenBrocklehurst · 31/10/2025 07:22

Don’t want to burst your bubble, OP, but I won a tenner on a scratch card a couple of weeks back. We chose “no publicity” so you won’t have heard about it, but oh! the life we’ve lived since then!

Branwells77 · 31/10/2025 07:38

I think you should seriously consider getting a financial adviser to help you with your winnings you don’t want to blow it quickly also be careful now your a winner the scammers will 100% target you even more 😂 best of luck OP
