Just for fun- what phrases do you read on MN that you never hear in RL?

I've read this again, today. 'A prince among men'.

I've never heard anyone say that in RL. (Yes, I've read it but not heard it.)

I'd never heard anyone say "get your ducks in a row", "give your head a wobble" or "bin him off".

The mental load 🤷🏼‍♀️

MorningFresh · 20/10/2025 15:45

Ive never heard anyone say this IRL. "You do you". It sounds a bit rude to me. 🤔

StiffAsAVicar · 20/10/2025 15:45

Leave the bastard

Changingnames2002 · 20/10/2025 15:46

No is a full sentence

SirChenjins · 20/10/2025 15:46

Did you mean to be so rude?

It's presented on here as the put down to end all put downs - whereas in RL the response would be something along the lines of 'yeah I did'.

adcde123 · 20/10/2025 15:47

Cheeky fuckery - love that one!

TheNightingalesStarling · 20/10/2025 15:47

Dd, DH, DExH, Dnext-door-neighbours-dogs-vets-sister

Arlanymor · 20/10/2025 15:48

"Naice"

BeerOrStout · 20/10/2025 15:48

Gives me the ick.

I'm of the generation where we never knew ick as a word.

This

I've never heard any one say Why don't you bore off.
But I accept that is probably a generational thing.
Similarly I've never heard anyone say My bad - when I saw it on MN the first time I had to have it explained to me.

CatsMagic · 20/10/2025 15:49

Posters always talk about “pulling people up” ….. aye right course you did

Greenfingers37 · 20/10/2025 15:50

Cocklodger 🤣

It’s meant to be rude and is indeed overtly patronising. Like the “give your head a wobble” comment, which seems to be regarded as some sort of coup de grace. Not that, realistically one might inadvertently “do” someone else. It’s a lazy assumption of superiority.

BeerOrStout · 20/10/2025 15:51

Why don't you bore off.

I only know it as 'bog off' or Princess Anne used to say 'Naff orf' to the press.

I've never heard of anyone showing compassion for the thousands killed in Gaza as a "useful idiot". But its used all the time on the citme board. Usually by the same old posters.

Naws · 20/10/2025 15:52

Fucking 'Food noise' 😡

No idea why it winds me up so much! 😁🤷‍♂️

TeaRoseTallulah · 20/10/2025 15:53

I hear all these outside MN, I can't think of anything unique to here.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 20/10/2025 15:56

Cocklodger is the only one that springs to mind. Other groups I'm in would call a cocklodger a hobosexual.

I must say I'm quite worried about myself because I sometimes catch myself talking in Mumsnetspeak irl these days.

Definitely a sign of being on the site too much in my case.

KurtansFringe · 20/10/2025 15:59

Your kidz your roolz

EndlessDistraction · 20/10/2025 16:01

I have no more fucks to give and various longwinded variations on that. In real life it's just couldn't give a fuck.

Yes, this. So rude!
"Do you want to be my bridesmaid?"
"No."

Soupandaroll · 20/10/2025 16:04

“Boils my piss” - awful phrase, never heard it in the wild
