Just for fun- what phrases do you read on MN that you never hear in RL?

I've read this again, today. 'A prince among men'.

I've never heard anyone say that in RL. (Yes, I've read it but not heard it.)

When you quote a post you agree with and respond with just this. In a face to face setting if I agree with someone I’ve never pointed at them and said ‘this'

Think as in "I have a good job - think lawyer" Just say what your bloody job is

You do you

Use your words - so patronising like you're talking to a toddler

"Are you on glue?" although I've heard it said by a very annoying character in a NI TV programne so maybe it's common there

Outwith is definitely Scottish. Don't know what I'd say instead of it

I hate all the DD, DXH, DMIL nonsense and refuse to use it

Don’t forget the Dcat and Ddog. Someone wrote DLabrador on here recently, I don’t know if it was satire but did make me laugh.

Things, people, places are always 'vile' on here, never hear anyone using that in real life.

I say vile all the time.

'Dressing gown of doom'. I've never heard anyone say it before in real life, I only read it on here - but I absolutely love it, such a hilarious but descriptive phrase!

Not sure who coined it but it's brilliant 😂

I’ve seen “DDiPoW” on here- Dear Diana, Princess of Wales!!

Disingenuous. See it all the time on here. Never heard it IRL.

That’s definitely not a Mn coinage. I’ve seen it in lots of other places where Man Flu and male hypochondria is being mocked.

Everything is....odd!

Edited

But that’s just online shorthand. Just as no one ever says aloud ‘I’m an Ess Ay Aitch Em’ when what they mean is that they don’t have a job outside the home. Ori ‘I had a fight about the tv remote with Dee Aitch last night’.
