The best sleeping tablets?

To anyone who uses sleeping tablets, please could you let me know the best OTC ones you’ve found that work but don’t leave you feeling like a zombie the next day?

Melatonin, ordered on iHerb and shipped from The States.

blankcanvas3 · 14/10/2025 16:49

The Lemme Sleep gummies. You have to order them from the states though.

GrizeldaMcBain · 14/10/2025 16:51

Three piriton give me a great sleep.

Which one did you get? Do you order through their UK site?

QueenStevie · 14/10/2025 17:02

Night nurse!

inamo · 14/10/2025 17:11

For the rare occasions (thankfully) when sleep just won't come, or if I wake in the middle of the night, I make up my little potion and ZZZZZZZs all the way pretty soon after. Remember, it is only occasionally and it's relatively harmless just the same IMV.

One fizzy Aldi multivit (has magnesium)
One fizzy magnesium tablet (Boots)
Half (250mg) or a full (500mg) fizzy paracetemol.

Put them all in a small glass of water, chug it down and you'll be asleep before you know it.

Well that's what I use.

Shinyandnew1 · 14/10/2025 17:24

Do any of these 'solutions' not make you feel hungover the next day?

ghostyslovesheets · 14/10/2025 17:28

Melatonin - from Piping Rock - usually on a 2 for 1 offer, extra strength. Saved me from the grips of menopausal insomnia

Spinaltapped · 14/10/2025 17:42

I use Nytol - helps me fall asleep, I sometimes take another one if I wake up at 2am. No groggyness in the morning.

Over the counter in a chemists.

DarkRootsBlue · 14/10/2025 18:08

I use the OTC Nytol as well. Usually feel great the next day, though I’ve heard some people do feel groggy.

TheFoodLife · 14/10/2025 18:11

Phenergan, buy it on eBay or a pharmacy, or get a prescription. It’s a type1 anti histamine like Benadryl.

Ihateboris · 14/10/2025 18:28

Phenergen or Piriton

WrylyAmused · 14/10/2025 18:30

Promethazine anti histamines

Mydahliasareshit · 14/10/2025 18:39

Kirkland Sleep Aid, it's an anti histamine and not addictive. Excellent stuff.

MoonWoman69 · 14/10/2025 18:39

I've just got some Kalms Night and I find them brilliant! One on a night, I'm asleep within the hour and no grogginess the next morning. They relax you enough to get off to sleep. I wasn't holding out much hope with OTC sleeping tablets, but I am impressed.
I don't always have issues sleeping, but sometimes anxiety hits and these really help.

StartingOverIn2025 · 14/10/2025 18:43

Not zopiclone that’s for sure. I’m going through a terrible period of insomnia at the moment, GP prescribed these and they have made zero difference at all. So I’m therefore watching with interest.

dudsville · 14/10/2025 19:20

I like magnesium and phenergen.

OldSchoolCasualty · 14/10/2025 19:34

I use the Boots and Tesco own brand ones from their pharmacy, they're brilliant!

Ineffable23 · 14/10/2025 19:35

Half (not a whole one) a Sominex, which is promethazine hydrochloride.

A whole one leaves me wrecked.

A half one requires a couple of cups of tea but is otherwise alright.

Bumdrops · 14/10/2025 19:40

I’ve known crisis teams suggest promethazine for insomnia

i like valerian root -
from H+B
good stuff - no hangover

LooseCanyon · 14/10/2025 19:45

Nytol is basically anti-histamine.

LooseCanyon · 14/10/2025 19:46

OP, basically all these replies are saying antihistamine.

HansHolbein · 14/10/2025 19:48

Night Nurse but be very careful about the dose.

Bumdrops · 14/10/2025 19:48

err no … melatonin, valerian root, magnesium are not antihistamines!!

Squirrelsnut · 14/10/2025 19:49

Kirkland's Sleep Aid or melatonin.
The KSA is powerful - I use less than half a tablet.
