Scared.. text from gp. Tell me I'm being silly

Went for bloods on Friday, text first thing today from GP to ring and make a routine appointment to discuss results. Appointment is today over the phone. Don't know when they will ring. My anxiety is through the roof and my mind is doing over time. Waiting for the call seems like a lifetime. Tell me I'm being silly and overthinking! 😩😩

Whatever the result of the blood test you wont receive a diagnosis for anything sinister today without more investigations. Your blood may be low in Iorn or vit C. Your thyroid function may be off. It could be loads of things. If you are otherwise healthy and well its most likely nothing major. Have a cup of tea and deep breaths X.

PoppyFleur · 13/10/2025 11:33

I can see why you are feeling a little anxious, completely understandable but don’t let your anxiety take over. Don’t worry until you have something to worry about. I like to be prepared, so I would probably have a notebook and pen with me during the call so I could write down anything important and any questions that may come to mind. Don’t assume the worse.

AnnaFrith · 13/10/2025 11:37

Please don't worry. You are definitely overthinking. There are thousands of minor things that could be slightly 'off' in your blood, that need to be discussed. The text will have been sent as soon as a doctor has looked at the result, so it's not significant that you had it so soon after the result came back.

As they have said book a routine appointment it won’t be anything serious

inamo · 13/10/2025 11:38

Was there a specific reason for the blood tests, or just routine?

TTCbaby2x · 13/10/2025 11:41

@inamo I had my gallbladder removed in feb and recently I've started to get a lot of aches and pains where my gallbladder used to be x

If it was life or death serious they ring you usually mine have done it before my test was WAY off normal they rang me ASAP discussed how I was feeling and next steps routine appointment can be "your bloods came back fine are you still having symptoms" or "they are a little off we want to repeat them"

Deep breaths your not alone

peachgreen · 13/10/2025 11:43

I had the same recently and it was simply that my iron levels were low so they told me to start taking a supplement. It is almost certainly nothing sinister!

BTW I had "phantom gallbladder pain" for years after having mine removed – quite common and nothing to worry about. Obviously getting it checked out is the right thing to do, but there's no reason to be concerned just yet.

Autisticburnouthell · 13/10/2025 11:43

When my friends had very abnormal bloods she had 6 missed calls from her GP in a hour. It’s probably just some thing like low vitamin D. Hopefully they will ring soon.

CypressGrove · 13/10/2025 11:43

Was high cholesterol for me.

MummyNeedsCoffee1 · 13/10/2025 11:46

As others said, it doesn’t sound urgent/serious. Most likely they’ll tell you to take a vitamin supplement or to watch your diet to lower cholesterol.

LoveSandbanks · 13/10/2025 11:47

If it was anything serious they wouldn’t have texted you. My husband’s gp phoned him at. 9.30 in the evening when he had worrying test results. We didn’t answer so she phoned again at 7.30 the next morning.

deep breaths and a cup of tea.

PumpkinSeasonOctober · 13/10/2025 11:47

When they rang me for the same thing it was to give me iron tablets.

PinkArt · 13/10/2025 11:49

You won't get a text and a request for a routine appointment if it's anything sinister. I would guess they'd try to avoid phone appointments for serious news too.
If it helps for context, when I had some blood tests that did reveal something serious (blood clots) my GP called and asked how close to a hospital I was and if I could go there straight away.
You aren't being silly though, so don't be hard on yourself. It's completely understandable that you're anxious. Try to distract yourself if you can.

saveforthat · 13/10/2025 11:50

If you have the NHS app and have given permission you can see test results on there.

DinoDuvet · 13/10/2025 11:51

I had the same text this morning for my blood results, receptionist said did they say routine or urgent which put my mind at ease a tad, solidarity and waiting with you

TonTonMacoute · 13/10/2025 11:52

The key word is 'routine' appointment! It's something routine.

Franpie · 13/10/2025 11:52

No need to worry. If it was something awful they would have you in for a face to face appointment.

I had routine blood tests done a couple of weeks ago and I had a text to make an appointment. One of the markers of my kidney function looked odd so they wanted to know if I had a UTI or something. I said no so they sent me back for a repeat test which came back normal so case closed.

Tbrg · 13/10/2025 11:52

I’ve had this after a blood test in the past - for me they just wanted to do a repeat blood test, so try not to worry.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 13/10/2025 11:53

Last time I had this it was my cholesterol was a little high and I should watch it and get tested again in 6 months. That was all.
No need to get worked up.

TTCbaby2x · 13/10/2025 11:55

You have all put my mind at ease so Thank you for that. I tend to overthink a lot and get myself worked up which I must say is an annoying trait I have...

Still waiting for the call, hopefully it's soon x

Years ago I had a letter from the blood donor people telling me not to give blood again. I had several hours thinking I had AIDS - it was the early 90s. But no, I was low in iron. Panic over.

LondonLady1980 · 13/10/2025 11:55

If there was anything bad they needed to say, I would hope they would have asked you to go into the surgery for a face-to-face appointment, not just arranged a phone call.

Try not to worry OP.

TigerRag · 13/10/2025 11:55

I had similar and was told they needed to see me in person. Appointment was 3 weeks away only to be told there was nothing wrong

LassitersLegend · 13/10/2025 12:01

Have you downloaded the NHS app? You can see your blood results on the app, I find it takes that worry away. I can understand feeling anxious.
