I can't say im sad about it

Not remotely sad he’s dead. Bit sad that he’s now excused from living with the consequences of his actions by serving his full sentence.

And at a broader level I’m not ok with inmates killing each other, yes I do feel the baby rapist arguably deserved it but if we decide that makes it ok then where does one draw the line? It’s for a judge and jury to convict and punish criminals, not their fellow inmates. That way chaos lies.

But nobody is suggesting that murder in prison should be legal. We’re just saying we don’t feel sad about it.

DrAmeliaShepherdMD · 11/10/2025 21:51

And I completely agree with that @Bigpinksweater

I just had a Quick Look and there were 7 prisoners murdered in the last year. Comparatively, 8 prison guards have been murdered since 1850, the last one being in 1965. So while that’s a bit of a blunt instrument, and I’m absolutely not downplaying guard injuries, it seems the prisoners are selective when it comes to victims and guards are not a popular choice.

That's death's not injuries, permanent disfigurement etc.

Little lamented as he will likely be, his sentence was 29 years in prison, not death.

It is very worrying that this was able to happen. It makes a mockery of our justice system and having a judicial process, if we can't keep prisoners safe.

I think the 29 years with eligibility for parole in 2031 is what makes a mockery of the system and calls into question the concept of justice.

Well, he won’t be eligible for parole now..

Well said.

if your son/brother/uncle goes to prison for a short while for a relatively silly mistake, is it ok for him to be murdered? Not just a slap, a thump. Murdered?

Be careful what you wish for.

(Grandmother of 2 serving prison officers, one still having treatment of a shank wound to the neck...missed arteries by luck!)

God how awful.

I agree with PPs saying that they don’t care about him, but that doesn’t mean prison violence is desirable. If for no other reason than we do actually need people to work in prisons.

One of the most basic of rights in any civilised society is protecting the safety of those we incarcerate. It is much more a question of our civility than theirs.

I can only hope that senior leadership in the relevant prison are under criminal investigation for failing to ensure an appropriate level of safety.

Given the seriousness of the crimes of most of the prisoners held at the prison where he was murdered, it's astonishing that so few come to harm.

For this, we have the prison officers and leadership to thank.

I think it's disgusting that in a rich country, we cannot keep our prisoners safe. If someone as high profile as him can be killed, anyone could be. I don't wish that for our prisoners.
Unfortunately it's not a rarity by any means and 5+ prisoners are murdered most years, with dozens more near misses.
And if you have never had cause to worry about the safety of someone in prison, then you are incredibly privileged and probably would do well not to comment.

Hardly an incredible privilege.

Look, prison violence is a fact of prison life. Not because it’s desirable, or because it’s legal, or because prisons do nothing to stop it. But because throwing thousands of highly violent and dangerous men together for years at a time, 24 hours a day, makes every interaction hard to monitor. If we have 7 prison deaths a year, and a gen pop of 97,000 prisoners, then that’s 1 in every 14,000 prisoners being murdered which is a bloody miracle.

ninjahamster · 11/10/2025 22:00

I’m not going to mourn him. He was a despicable man.
However, prisoners should not be killed when incarcerated. This was a high security prison. The offenders will all be dangerous and have committed high level crimes. The man who killed him included in that.

Having just read that the person who died pleaded guilty to attempting to rape an 11 month old baby, their death in prison via another inmate is not something I’m going to lose too much sleep about.

Good fucking riddance

29 officers were murdered as a result of their work at The Maze / Long Kesh.

Then NI needs better security policies

That's more than blasé,the NI terrorist organisations were a formidable and determined opponent to both police and prison officers.

JudgeBread · 11/10/2025 22:19

Good.

If someone could sort out the creatures who willingly sacrificed their babies to him as well that'd be grand.

Sunshineandrainbow · 11/10/2025 22:19

2 men now arrested

Kibble19 · 11/10/2025 22:22

Chuck his corpse in landfill where it belongs.

What have they got to do with this? Why not use examples from Brazil, or China, or Panama? We’re discussing our legal system here in England and Wales.

I was answering your quote..That NI needed better security procedures.
You really don't have a clue.

TheExcitersblowingupmymind · 11/10/2025 22:30

Oh and NI is part of the UK.

smilingfanatic · 11/10/2025 22:30

@Bigpinksweater I didn't see you referring to just England & Wales. It's logical to assume you were referring to UK while downplaying the dangers prison officers face in prisons with mob rule.

Likening NI to Brazil or Panama is an interesting one....

But England has a different legal system to NI and given this crime happened in Yorkshire, I thought that was obvious? Or did you not know?

Bigpinksweater · 11/10/2025 22:33

I’m still waiting to see which ‘silly mistakes’ can have a person of previous good character find themselves in prison for?
