Teetotallers, what do you drink?

I don't drink alcohol and haven't for a good 2 years, due to always driving and not much of a social life so just got to the point I don't drink.

BUT I'm fed up of drinking fizzy drinks and fresh juices when I go out. Fevertree do some nice drinks but again most are fizzy. Cocktails are again fizzy or sweet as heck in most bars. Don't really want to do zero alcohol drinks either.

So my question...What do you drink/recommend?

I went to a pub the other day that had an extensive drink menu including a section for wellbeing mocktails, I had a really lovely one called social iced tea that involved three spirit social and lions mane

I wish all pubs did this!

This is my kind of thread. Thank you op. Id never have known there were all manner of fancy drinks out there

petitpasta · 25/09/2025 10:52

Zero alcohol cider, alcohol free gins and tonic (unless it's Beefeater or Gordon's zero alcohol because they are both an abomination). Seedlip is also lovely.

If it's the fizz you don't like, ask for a teaspoon and stir the drink then leave the teaspoon in for a bit. It really reduces the fizz.

I've recently 'discovered' herbal tea and I'm enjoying trying different flavours out.

I usually go for lemonade if I'm in a pub or restaurant.

DoAWheelie · 25/09/2025 11:12

I usually go for full fat coke. J2O if they don't have coke. I also quite like oasis summer fruits but not many bars/restaurants stock that. If everyone is having a desert wine with pudding then I'll sometimes get a hot chocolate as an extra treat with my cake.

warmapplepies · 25/09/2025 11:43

Diet coke
Coffee/iced coffee
Mocktails
Sparkling water

MavisBarrel · 25/09/2025 11:50

Mine are Virgin Mary or a fever tree tonic with angostura bitters ( and yes I know they have a trace of alcohol in them !) or water with cucumber and mint.

Tea

Tomato juice with Worcestershire sauce

Can you not just drink wine?
As well as water.

It's not just a question of red or white. There are different sweetness levels and robustness in the case of red. You would need to try many. Perhaps you have a friend or relative who could help/guide you.

Maddy70 · 25/09/2025 23:17

Just a tonic water , but I ask for it in a gin glass
Or kombucha

Eggybreadwithnuts · 25/09/2025 23:21

What is kombuca

Can you not just drink wine?

Not if you don't drink alcohol.
(Although there are alcohol free versions these days.)

I stopped drinking for a number of reasons, but one was that I realised I'm not that keen on the taste of most alcoholic drinks.

StrikeForever · 26/09/2025 00:21

Usually sparkling water. Occasionally, a Fanta orange.

Eggybreadwithnuts · 26/09/2025 00:26

No don't want to drink wine, no alcohol. Just so sick of fizzy, tonight, sweet juices etc.

I don't drink. I've never drank. Things have got a lot better, but the price of mocktails is appalling. In some places they are almost comparable to the alcoholic ones. It boils my piss 😤 I usually drink coke, lemonade or orange and lemonade in a 50/50. A bar local to me used to do a nice coke that tasted of haribo, but people complained!

SilkiePenguin · 26/09/2025 07:59

My favourite is things like homemade lemonade. Otherwise elderflower lemonade, coke, sparkling water, hot chocolate, fruit juice if nice. Avoid sweeteners.

Kpo58 · 26/09/2025 08:07

I often struggle to find something I want to drink when out. I'm reluctant to pay for water, don't drink fizzy drinks/kombucha and the rest is always so over sweetened.

I know in Japan you can get unsweetened ice tea. I wish that they did that over here.

Still water with ice and a slice of lemon, mineral or tap depending on what's available and if I'm feeling I should support a local business by buying a bottle of mineral water. Husband drinks Guinness Zero.

PersonIrresponsible · 26/09/2025 10:10

The teetotaller's G&T

Ginger Ale and Tobasco.

Because it's spicy, you can't quaff it so easily - just sips. Keeps going for longer.
