It's a shopping list! Twin Snakes??

Duck sounds rather posh.

Quite standard otherwise, very specific on the chocolate choice - Minstrels.

Ginger, lemon, whiskey - someone has a cold?

Twin Snakes has me foxed - some sort of family shorthand? (eg we call breaded cod pieces 'fish hands' - i.e larger than fish fingers)

It's a shopping list! Twin Snakes??

You said ‘the twin snakes have got me foxed.’ So I told you what they were. Now you’re accusing me of being a ‘strictly literal’ type of person as I should have responded with some sexual innuendo

This is so bizarre

Your latest response has confirmed I was spot on with my initial suggestion of you being a literal minded person.

Even when its explained to you quite clearly, you still don't get it.

Honestly, I'd just avoid any further shopping lists in that future, that's if anyone can be bothered again when any joy gets squeezed out of it in the first couple of posts.

I am going to try pairing Minstrels with port!

I love a good list! Always wish I could find one and I'd absolutely post it to mumsnet!

Crunchymum · 20/09/2025 18:07

Back in the day posting a shopping list used to be a fun, harmless MN pastime. Now it's just another excuse to be snipey (for some at least!)

To be fair OP it did look like you were looking for an explanation regarding the Twin Snakes. You don't need to be so rude to those answering that question.

Actually, someone else started it right from the off with a really withering and unnecessary response.

I do have access to Google and I'm able to use it but honestly it didn't occur to me it was a genuine product - hence why I thought it would be a laugh to speculate. I was wrong.

I was thinking it was possibly a name used at home for tuna steaks but I then noticed its next to minstrels so prob twix snacks. I usually write my list according to where they would be in the shop so that's my thinking. My list isn't as neat as that though. Mine would be an interesting one to interpret!

I find a good rule to go by is that, if you have to explain what you’re on about, it’s not really funny….

Fatandfluffy · 20/09/2025 18:31

Op: I’m really foxed by what Twin Snakes are?

Me: they’re Haribo

Op: Honestly I'm a bit disappointed that we're talking Haribo here. I was hoping for something funnier with perhaps some mild innuendo along the way.
But as you're the strictly literal type, this has been proven to be not your sort of thread at all

I guess I’m not supposed to be on this thread then? 🤷🏼

Exactly! It's all a tad odd.

CountryShepherd · 20/09/2025 18:48

It really isn't odd.

But I will defer to your judgement that I am not in any way, shape or form, funny, FatandFluffy.

I will remember your golden rule in future and will take this opportunity and go away to rethink my life choices.

Do you always react like this when folk answer questions that you actually asked?

BIWI · 20/09/2025 20:05

Oh dear @Fatandfluffy and @Tastaturen - you clearly haven’t been on Mumsnet for very long!

Found shopping lists is a very long-standing ‘thing’ here.

It’s funny. You know - using you sense of humour?!

I have been around for longer than you think - have had breaks away though and had to make new log-in details.
I have no issue laughing about shopping lists, however the 'got me foxed' in relation to the Twin Snakes was what prompted explanations!

I’ve been on here since I was pregnant 11 years ago. Op asked a question - it was answered. I wasn’t aware I had to make it funny too. Ffs

ChannelLightVessel · 20/09/2025 20:45

As someone with a phobia of snakes, I feel I should lower the tone by pointing out that they do in fact have twin trouser-snakes. Not that snakes wear trousers. A boob tube and a no-legs warmer perhaps?

It was the tone in which you answered. And I think you know that, but are backtracking. You wanted to be snippy. You were. Own it.

When I first read it I thought twin snakes was a misspelling of twin snacks - i.e. snacks for the twins.

Omg, the merailing, the doubling down... its so fucking cringe!

The OP just started a lighthearted thread. In the absolute spirit of the site.

I'm so embarrassed for them 😳

No need to be embarassed for me - I politely answered a question. HTH

If you’ve been here as long as you say you have @Fatandfluffy @Tastaturen then you will know that shopping list threads are always light-hearted.

And again, I was answering one specific question which OP was 'foxed' about.
I was also polite to OP.

Fatandfluffy · 20/09/2025 21:22

This thread doesn’t feel very lighthearted. It feels pretty mean and attacking

BIWI · 20/09/2025 21:23
Grin

You couldn’t make it up!

Fatandfluffy · 20/09/2025 21:25

I can’t see the hordes of MN on here contributing to the lighthearted thread but…ok

maybe this one just didn’t capture the imagination

Keep doubling down.

You're doing a great job showing who you are.
