Easy side hustle for when I'm bored?

workingcocker · 18/09/2025 13:36

I run my own successful business, I have a team of 5 employees. Some weeks I am rushed off my feet, others not so much. I need it to be like this so I can pick up the slack when it's busy. The rest of my time is spent doing admin and getting in new business.

However, this means some weeks I have a lot of spare time, I also get bored in the evenings. I do relax, so it's not like i'm overdoing things.

Is there any side hustle that would fit around this? I'm not into MLM and don't want to advertise to anyone that I am doing this. I am happy to put stuff together or put things in envelopes etc? Or Surveys?

Does anyone do something like this?

Hustle for more business op?

Surveys are fine if you want something that earns a small amount of money. I do 5surveys - complete 5 and get £5, and they pay instantly unlike many sites. I made. £15 in two days just while watching tv this week. https://fivesurveys.com/register?ref=9ee68e08-c1a3-402e-8e00-857aec44da0f
That’s my referral link but just google it if you don’t want to use that.

Follow the fun money club on Instagram she has a page with all the side hustles and says you can earn on average amount extra £400 following her tips, it's free!

Includes things like surveys, bank switches etc.

Current one I've just done is this - open up a new bank account with Zopa and receive free £10, only takes minutes and I got the £10 straight away and don't bother using the account, will close it!

Can use referral link here, then share yours and get £10 for each person that then uses it:

Bookmarking this as could use something that just brings in a bit of extra money without being an MLM. I hit up all the surveys but they do get boring and the money back is not brilliant for the time spent. What did happen to all those excellent side-hustles from the 90s?

What about matched betting?

RaininSummer · 18/09/2025 16:51

Are you a crafter? Crochet, knitting, etc are good productive time fillers

I’m not sure I could get my head around that.

I would like to learn to do crochet. I could then make stuff for my child to sell maybe?

Learn how to trade on the stock market?

Comtesse · 18/09/2025 18:01

Try and get some more clients for your business. Post on LinkedIn, re-do the website, get some new client testimonials, do a short course on AI or search engine optimisation. That would seem like a more productive thing to do!

So your business has reached its absolute limit?

if not, surely you use the “quiet times” to hustle for more business for your current business OP?

PenguinLost · 18/09/2025 18:17

If it's not really about earning more money but more about keeping occupied, how about learning something new? There's loads of bite-sized free courses on places like FutureLearn or the Open University relating to all sorts of topics. You can dip in and out of them depending on how busy (or not) you are. You might even find something that's useful for your business!

CoheedandCambria · 18/09/2025 18:26

I've never tried this myself but you could try entering loads of free online competitions and just see if you get anything 🤷🏻

My business is geographically limited without going into to much detail.

There is some natural growth that I am working on which I can’t hurry.

Intriguing

almost as intriguing as considering stuffing envelopes as a way to fill time

ResusciAnnie · 18/09/2025 18:32

I got into a terrible habit of feeling I had to monetize all my hobbies. Far more enjoyable and peaceful now I just do things for fun. If your business makes money then the rest of your time is for living IMO.

CalzoneOnLegs · 18/09/2025 18:33

Have a declutter and sell online ?

Nah, just do crochet for fun. If you’re selling toys etc they need to be CE marked. You’ll never be able to charge enough to cover the hours and supplies spent to make the item. I just spent £60 on wool for one cardigan, for example. Just make whatever you want for the fun of it.

I promise that if I risked outing myself and explained it to you, you would understand.

The majority of the year is very busy and I have spent lots of time and effort streamlining my work to make it easier during the busy times.

This means that when it is quiet, I have to stay fully contactable by my team so can’t go off out and about. Sometimes, I feel a bit stuck that’s all.

Prolific surveys - they won't make you rich but some are quite interesting.

PinkArt · 18/09/2025 18:56

Can you create anything related to the business that would generate passive income? And do you need to be on front of a big screen, or so long as you're contactable could you work from your phone or a tablet?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 18/09/2025 19:01

Get a static bike and cycle in front of the TV.
Join an online book club and read books for that.
Find one topic that you're fascinated by and research it
Start a family tree.

They work their contracted hours, Yes. But, their workload is lighter for sure. Should I be letting them sit at home on full pay, whilst I go out and do the work just for the sake of it?

No but you would gain a lot of good will if they left them have a couple of hours off that week of their choice.
