Easy side hustle for when I'm bored?

I run my own successful business, I have a team of 5 employees. Some weeks I am rushed off my feet, others not so much. I need it to be like this so I can pick up the slack when it's busy. The rest of my time is spent doing admin and getting in new business.

However, this means some weeks I have a lot of spare time, I also get bored in the evenings. I do relax, so it's not like i'm overdoing things.

Is there any side hustle that would fit around this? I'm not into MLM and don't want to advertise to anyone that I am doing this. I am happy to put stuff together or put things in envelopes etc? Or Surveys?

Does anyone do something like this?

Wouldn't it be better if she learnt your business and did work experience there?

She’s doing that already.

yes, her mother set up and run a successful business employing 5 people.

Much more relevant than the op crocheting toys for her studies!

What about having a fitness app so you can do an exercise class? For example, I have a pilates for runners app and a lot of the routines are only about 10-15 minutes so they are ideal for downtime during the day.

I had a friend who used to upcycle furniture as a hobby at night once her kids were in bed.

She'd pick up things people were giving away, research techniqiues then sanding, painting, stencilling etc to transform junk into beauty.

Really satisfying and not hard to learn.

Oh wow, this is totally what I’d do

Matched betting is pretty good for that sort of pattern - you can spend more time on it to earn more money or just keep it ticking over. There’s some key weeks eg Cheltenham or Grand National when it really pays to be more available but otherwise it’s pretty easy money once you’ve mastered the systems. And if you’re a successful business owner I’m guessing you like learning new things and setting up systems!

Haven't rtft OP, but wouldn’t a hobby of some kind be far more rewarding?

People don’t believe you OP! Hahaha but they would rather try and allude to it than actually come out and say it. I don’t have any suggestions but I just want to say that I don’t see anything wrong with what you’re asking and even if you were fibbing a bit so as not to sound desperate that I would also completely understand why.

Hope you find something x

I don’t really care if people believe me or not tbf.

I love my business, it is something I built from the love of my job. I am very good at my job and became very much in demand so I had to take people on and train them in what I do.

I have everything in hand so searching for better pension deals etc would bore me to tears.

Bizarre! I can’t see any poster not believing the OP! Although you saying you’d understand why the op would fib “so as not to sound desperate” is a bit strange! 😆

Whereas stuffing envelopes?

roshi42 · 24/09/2025 19:56

I’m with you OP - I’m in a similar position and wonder the same thing myself. When I’m busy I’m really busy but I’m quite often not at all, or only minimal supervision and emails. But I have to maintain capacity for the busy times. Unlike you I could use the extra money! And I like doing something that needs doing rather than just relaxing / a hobby. I also can’t think of much that is flexible enough to pick up and put down according to how busy I am day to day. I’ve considered nipping out for the odd delivery app job! But I’m not sure minimum wage work would be worth it for a second job given the tax as a higher rate tax payer…

The op Runs a successful business and has teen kids and money is not an issue? OP your time is worth more than stuffing envelopes or similarly mind numbingly boring work.

Surely you can see that? Even if you have to be at home near your computer…. Exercise, eBay, holiday research, housework, read, craft, clear out a cupboard, ring a friend…. So much nicer things to do!!
