Easy side hustle for when I'm bored?

workingcocker · 18/09/2025 13:36

I run my own successful business, I have a team of 5 employees. Some weeks I am rushed off my feet, others not so much. I need it to be like this so I can pick up the slack when it's busy. The rest of my time is spent doing admin and getting in new business.

However, this means some weeks I have a lot of spare time, I also get bored in the evenings. I do relax, so it's not like i'm overdoing things.

Is there any side hustle that would fit around this? I'm not into MLM and don't want to advertise to anyone that I am doing this. I am happy to put stuff together or put things in envelopes etc? Or Surveys?

Does anyone do something like this?

What about matched betting?

I was going to suggest matched betting

I was bored out of my mind while on maternity for a year during COVID. I made about 2k over a year with a combination of matched betting, clickworking and online surveys.

Another option is transcription if you are handy at touch typing (although AI may have decimated this industry)

What about a craft? Crochet hats and blankets? If you aren't worried about making a living out of it, it's actually worth while. My maternity hospital used to get lots of donations of hand knitted blankets and hats from local people for the newborns, good idea for non money making hobbies.

I’ve discovered drawing and am now addicted. So a hobby you enjoy

This OP is clearly a really rather successful business owner who doesn’t need extra money and yet thinks stuffing envelopes for pennies would be a great way to spend her quiet times? Bizarre

The thing is I need to be available, I take phone calls and emails etc. I can't really go off out and about too much. I was thinking about something I could do from my computer.

I do have dogs, who get lovely long walks daily on the beach. I have a teenage child who is doing well at school and is happy.

Do an OU course, maybe an MBA? Or learn about investing and making your money work for you, do something that stretches you mentally or physically and may be useful in the future.

I didn’t necessarily mean I would want to stuff envelopes, I was referring to little side jobs I could do.

It’s more for times that I am stuck in front of my computer, having to be easily contactable by my team.

I will look into doing some kind of training and even some training for my team.

What about comping, I haven't done it recently but did it a couple of years ago and won a few things including a couple of holidays.

You mentioned stuffing envelopes to be fair

But if you wfh, surely during the quiet times and with no need for money, you could focus on a diy project? A craft project? Home exercise? Catching up on housework, personal admin? Ebaying stuff your family doesn’t need anymore? Learning a language?

Deliciouslyfree · 23/09/2025 15:18

With 5 employees…. Surely there’s always something that you could be doing? Whether arranging an away day, or Christmas lunch or investigating a particular benefit or looking for a better pension scheme…. I could go on!

CraftyNavySeal · 23/09/2025 15:27

Investing?

Stick 1k in an investment ISA and see how far you get with it. Research companies and funds. I keep an eye on mine daily.

Ellebelieve · 24/09/2025 10:33

If your 5 employees remain busy during your quiet times… could you not get stuck in and support them?

rookiemere · 24/09/2025 10:35

Thought of something else. Buy some weights and do some exercises. I was very fit whilst I did the 14 hrs of onboarding online training that I had to watch.

Exactly…. So much the op could do that doesn’t involve mind numbingly boring tasks that earn pennies

I do support them. They work independently I can’t just turn up and muck in.

I would like to learn to do crochet. I could then make stuff for my child to sell maybe?

Why would your child need to sell crafts?

As in self employed?

Do you provide a pension? Any benefits? Or is it all remote work?

notatinydancer · 24/09/2025 15:40

If you don’t need the money , do a course maybe ? An A level or something?

coronafiona · 24/09/2025 15:51

Baking, ironing, online PA, art, pottery….

No, they are employed and have everything in place but it is a one person job that they do on their own.

She doesn’t but she is doing Business Studies GCSE so I thought it could help with that. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tupperware Party?

LemonTwix · 24/09/2025 17:47

If it’s a hobby you’re after maybe learn to play an instrument if you can’t already? You could have a keyboard and piano playing app.

thesandwich · 24/09/2025 17:48

How ai savvy are you? Loads of free digital training available on line.

Wouldn't it be better if she learnt your business and did work experience there?

Any possibility of expansion? Or is 5 it? If more, you could begin to explore recruitment? Expansion? Diversification?
