A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Take heart; you're not alone.😙

That recipes no help @Absentosaur

leavened with barm ???? Did you think you were helping with the confusion 🤣

@twistyizzy as you’re from Yorkshire you’ll be calling dinner tea then
As I pointed out to a Yorkshire friend who invited us over for tea
Tea = ☕️
not dinner. That’s why we’ve already eaten 🥴

Meanwhile I’m living down south amongst the mayonnaise eaters but I’m 100% Irish dna ( we did mingle 😉 with the invading Viking’s tho )

so when in Ireland we have
brack
goodey
white pudding
and
stirabout

Thankfully no Angela Raynors 🙏, aren’t we lucky Dancingferret and Eastern standard and other lurking Southerners

Although now she’s bought in Hove 🤯

DancingFerret · 19/09/2025 22:51

I wonder if Rayner will be able to afford the mortgage on her Hove flat now she's no longer DPM (and hopefully being chased by HMRC)?

Was discussing this with friends a few days ago. Apparently her wage was thusly:
MP salary £93,904 and £67,505 as Housing Secretary. Total £161,409.
I wouldnt feel too sorry for her losing her Housing Sec stipend though, She's supposedly worth over £4 million. Which begs the question, if'she's worth that much why did she screw over her son's trust fund for the deposit of the new pad?
Honestly, the more you scratch the surface with this lot the seedier and smellier they become.

A bit late but today is the first time I’ve seen clips from the Reform conference, in the article attached.. Urgh. What’s with the fireworks and singing, glitter etc. vomit. What are we at a child’s 10th birthday party? Or more worryingly, a scene from 1984.

The Conservatives need to do something soon.

upseedaisee · 20/09/2025 09:22

Unfortunately I think the Conservatives are a lame duck at this point and have an awful lot of work to do to regain the public's trust and I include myself in this. I was a party member for many years, however, the 1922 committee did it for me when they manipulated the system and put Liz Truss up against Rishi Sunak thinking the membership would vote for him as she was such a wet lettuce. How wrong they were. So, after getting rid of Lizzie, they then manipulated again and made sure enough mp's voted for Rishi to prevent it going to a member vote a second time. I wholely blame Graham Brady and the 1922 committee for the state the party is in now. His machinations have caused all the later problems.
Whilst the conservatives have been busy commiting regicide, Reform have been building their fan base, so to speak and are the runaway popular party. So I think we just have to resign ourselves to either a reform win or a coalition.
The one rainbow shining brightly in all of this is that Labour have well and truly stuffed themselves and from the next election on, may not see office for many years to come.

Thanks, that's interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about using the military in the channel in this way. I'd be in the don't know category there.
I think I'd rather see an real attempt to reduce the pull factor first.

I was just reading some comments from Ed Davey. He wants to toughen the Lib Dem's stance on immigration. He suggested nightingale style processing centres which I was surprised at coming from him.

Looking back, I think the Reform party conference intro had a Running Man vibe, with its fireworks, smoke machines and neon lights, Farage could have done a good impression of Richard Dawson coming out onto the stage.

Still though, I though it was quite jazzy and eye-catching. Better than a dismal rendition of the Red Flag.

Labour isn't working - Thread 9
Rivalled · 20/09/2025 09:45

At the very least, the mainstream parties are starting to understand that they need working systems for all of the processes around immigration.

i like Kemi - but the top team around her isn’t united, they don’t look like they could do a better job than Labour convincingly at this point (although, I’d certainly take that gamble!).

as Osborne was saying you have to lead your way to unity by looking like a winner people want to back - neither tories nor Labour have that.

Yes it was strange. That style feels very odd in the UK. I didn't feel confident in their ability to form a functional government after seeing them all together on the stage. But, we are where we are 🤷‍♂️. Where I live it will be a choice between voting Labour or Reform.

Agree that the cons need to step up, and soon.

No, I agree, it would be ridiculous. I mean, which ships would they even use- do we have a fleet of rnli sized boats?

I think it just speaks to the desperation of people wanting it to get fixed more than a viable solution.

If an election happened tomorrow, the contenders would comprise spiteful hypocrites, unrealistic hopefuls, and apparent weaklings.

True politicians seem to he a distant memory; it's frightening.

We’ll never have an effective deterrent when courts routinely block government action on deporting.
