Good Morning All! What are you all up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. I've been awake since dd1 got up to get ready for work at 6am & sort of snoozed until 8 when I gave up and came down. She fed the cats so they're both back upstairs on the end of my bed.

I've text dd and asked if she'd like me to do anything to help her pack for uni but she says she's pretty much done, there are just a few bits she'll wash and tumble when she gets in. I feel a bit like a spare part - I thought she might struggle with working long hours, and packing this week, but she's done 🤷‍♀️.

Today's very exciting plan is tidy the kitchen, list some things on Vinted, wash until the basket's empty and nip for drinks and breakfast for the train to London tomorrow. None of that will take long but dd2's room is a pigsty and that's her today job so I've offered to help get it straight - that will take a long while I think.

Whatever's left of the day, I'll spend either crocheting, or painting peg dolls. Most likely the dolls - I'm so close to the bottom of my list (it's likely to grow again though!).

We're having chicken salad wraps for tea, accompanied by a glass of wine for me. Then showers, and wait for dd to get home so we can triple check she has everything she needs!

What about all of you? 🙂

I’m spending the day trying to get through my list of jobs. I’ve promised teen DD pancakes for breakfast so am about to start on them before I wake her up.
Looks like the weather is going to turn this afternoon so I’ve decided it’s the end of summer and am going to bring the cushions from the outdoor furniture in and clean them ready for storing over winter.
DD had a clear out of her wardrobe so I’ll list some bits on Vinted for her. We might go into town for coffee and some food shopping. DS gets back from his post-A-levels holiday tomorrow and although I have a grocery delivery coming later there’s a few bits I’ve forgotten that we’ll need if he’s here for more than a day.
Changing the beds is on my list for today too - or at least cajoling DD to change hers.
And then this evening I’m hoping to catch up on a bit of life admin while watching something not too demanding on the TV. We’ve got sticky halloumi and noodles for tea. DD is heading to her friends for a sleepover later, so will probably want me to give her a lift there.

Enjoy you Saturday everyone

lucysmam · 13/09/2025 08:55

@countrybump tell me about the sticky halloumi, please? That sounds up my street 😋

Going to the shopping park soon with DDs. We all want new PJs. Looking forward to a nice mooch and seeing all the autumn things in the shops.

I want to get some reading in today. I'm struggling a bit with my book (Next of Kin by John Boyne) but I very rarely give up on books so I'll soldier on and see if something actually happens.

@lucysmam uni time already! Good luck with it all.

Shutupkeith · 13/09/2025 08:58

Good morning folks. I am having a very lazy day after a long day at work yesterday. Dropping DD off at the train station later as she is heading into town to meet up with friends. I shall be chilling on the sofa with netflix - bliss!

Kim82 · 13/09/2025 09:08

Good morning everyone.

I’ve been up since 5.45am and said goodbye to dd18 at 7.30am this morning as she left for uni today. Dh is driving her there and as it’s 350 miles away he’s finding a hotel/travelodge and staying overnight and travelling back tomorrow.

I then spent an hour sitting on the couch crying as I didn’t want her to go, I’ll miss her so, so much and now won’t see her until Christmas. I can’t believe that 3 of my children have now moved out and I just have one left at home. It’s going to be so quiet! 😢

I’ve pulled myself together now though as I have lots to do today. I’ve put dd11’s uniform in the washer and she has just hopped into the shower. I’m waiting for my Tesco delivery then will have a very quick shower myself and get dressed. Well then walk into town as she needs a jumper for school - I didn’t think it would be cold so quickly so thought I had a few weeks before she’d need one! We’ll have a mooch round a few shops then head home for lunch. I need to clean the house and also pack my suitcase as I go to Majorca tomorrow with my sister for a week - I can’t wait!

Tea tonight is McDonalds at dd11’s request then ds24 and his boyfriend are coming round as they’re staying overnight and babysitting dd11 for me tonight. Dsis is picking me up around 8pm and it'll be a very early night for us as we’re setting off to the airport at 3am.

DinoLil · 13/09/2025 09:18

Morning @lucysmamand all!

Not been on here in ages. Missed you all!

My pain levels have been off the chart for the past couple of months. I've ditched all my medication as it does nothing, with the support of my nurse. My consultant has a new idea as to what is wrong and a treatment but I'm a bit past caring now!

Had a great night out on Thursday, quiz at the local pub. Seeing a friend for breakfast tomorrow. PIP review this week and a lunch out. Nothing planned for today. The weather is horrid so a good excuse to hunker down!

Happy Saturday all! I love reading what you're all up to 😊

Markknopflersheadband · 13/09/2025 09:24

Morning all, so nice hearing everyone's plans. I'm sitting in the back room of a chilly village hall waiting for DD3 who is having her first dance class! Afterwards we are going to cheer on DH who is doing a 10k run. Have to stay out of the house all morning as we are trying to sell it and have some viewings this morning.
Salmon pasta bake and a glass of wine for tea. Have a lovely day all.

Helplessandheartbroke · 13/09/2025 09:29

Morning all

What a lovely thread! Cheered me up. I've been down the past few days so im taking me dad for a birthday breakfast then seeing FIL for his birthday. Then our friends are coming over. We will go out for tea and had a couple of beers at ours while all the kids play together :)

This thread has helped my mission to cheer myself up today.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 13/09/2025 09:30

Good morning Lucysmam and others. Dinolil 💐 I sincerely hope that something can be done to relieve your pain.
I've had two coffees and two slices of toast, then a cuppa. I've been to Marks and Spencers for some shopping and I'm home again having another cuppa. My ds and Dsil are arriving later to throw out my old couches, so I need to vacuum them first to remove crumbs. My kitchen is suffering from a fruit fly explosion so the priority is to get rid of them. Ramekins with cider vinegar are in the kitchen and the living room at the moment and the beasties are on the run! Dinner will be chipolata sausages in Japanese milk rolls. Enjoy your day all

lucysmam · 13/09/2025 09:31

Aw @Kim82 that will be me tomorrow, except probably on the train there. I hope move in goes well for your dd. Mine already has plans with the flatmates she hasn't yet met, for tomorrow evening.

Morning all,

I have been getting up super early this week to get eldest up to get to new college, now he has to go via public transport it’s a much earlier start, on the plus side do some chores first thing and house/laundry basket is under control
Youngster and dad are back on muddy fieds chasing a ball around, and he needs to ok at audition something or other for school drama thing when he gets back
Not been told if we have another teen here yet today but Mexican buffet is being prepped regardless

we we need to go to, hell on earth, otherwise known as IKEA, oh god, teens will have a great time - and I’ll buy some tea lights - and meatballs I think are usually involved not been for years avoid it like the plague

@lucysmam how you feeling about dd1 going? Excited, going to miss her, ready for her next big step? She sounds together which is a start I can’t imagine eldest being together in two years when it’s his plan to go to uni - but he has form for surprising us - I will mope I know this - for a bit

Ditto the fruit flies in kitchen! Weve even got those things off amazon for them ans it's not working!

OneLilacEagle · 13/09/2025 09:34

Morning all. It's definitely a day for relaxing here as we've all had covid this week and are at various stages of recovery. Nothing serious, just all feeling yucky. I get really panicked by illness though, perhaps as I grew up surrounded by chronic health issues and the impacts they have. It makes me feel like our life is going to fall apart. So I'll be trying to distract myself from the nonsense in my head whilst also resting. I'll put some laundry on in a minute and I've got a bit of admin to do for my mum. I might manage a podcast walk and to grab a coffee down the street if I'm feeling up to it. Some Japanese study later - the best distraction ever - and a bit of telly. Maybe a bath. DH & DS will no doubt be glued to screens as they are much more poorly than me. Lunch will be left over curry toasties and Thai beef salad for dinner. Hope you all have a good day.

Crunchymum · 13/09/2025 09:34

Morning all, happy Saturday.

Think it's just going to be a lazy house day today as DC2 is poorly. Cough and cold (which triggers her asthma). Thankfully we don't have swimming this week so we're making the most of it. DC2 is okay, just needs a day on the sofa.

I've got lots to do around the house, I'm sorting all the summer gear and packing up all that is now too small to pass down to my neices. We seem to have endless clothes though as we have lots of hand me downs from older cousins and I keep all DC2 clothes for DC3. So we have about 5 drawers dedicated to clothes that do not currently fit anyone (but will do next summer / winter?) So we're going to spend a few hours today packing up stuff that doesn't fit so I can send that to my dads for storage. On a positive note now I've finally shifted a bit of weight I have a whole host of winter gear that fits me again. This was all vacuum packed under the bed so needs washing and I'll pack up my bigger stuff and send that to my dad's. My dad's house is the dumping ground for our storage.

Sorry that was a very long winded way of saying I'm sorting the autumn / winter clothes out.

I have some sausages out of the freezer so we are having sausage sandwiches for lunch today. Dinner will be spicy chicken, halloumi and rice with broccoli and green beans.

Probably just a film later and an early night. The first full week back has kicked all our butt's.

lucysmam · 13/09/2025 09:36

@frozendaisy I love an Ikea trip! Finally persuaded dd2 to eat in the restaurant last time we went 🥳

I'm excited for her, and very surprised how organised she seems to be amongst the chaos that is currently her bedroom! She's even applied for jobs near her accommodation already and been looking at shipping options for moving her things back in summer. I'm going to miss her immensely though.

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone. Thinking about getting up & dressed. DH & I had a cuppa in bed a couple of hours ago so another is definitely due. DD16 & I were planning to go to an NT property about an hour’s drive away but the weather’s a bit iffy so we’re going to do a top up food shop & I’ll help her clear her bedroom floor. Her new(ish) GF is coming tomorrow. First time DH & I will have met her. DD has been doing loads of tidying, changed her bedding ( which sadly doesn’t happen as often as it should!) & yesterday even painted the inside of her bedroom door. It looks fab! I have a load of clothes still in their packaging taking up space in our bedroom so will put those away later & carry on decluttering downstairs. The house is only small but we have so much stuff! Sometimes it feels like living in a warehouse! Need to unload/load the dishwasher, clean the kitchen surfaces & hang out some washing if it stays dry. Oh & I have a big pile of clothes to photograph & sell. DH is working but will hoover upstairs later - when DD put her dirty sheet out to wash, a load of crap fell out & there’s still a mess at the top of the stairs as a result. I don’t know how she sleeps with the amount of stuff in her bed! Nice easy tea of either salt & pepper chicken ribs or southern fried chicken thighs with chips & peas. Probably watch a film tonight as there is nothing on tv. Looking forward to Strictly next week, although as usual I won’t know who half the celebrities are! Have a good day folks.

They're a bloody nightmare, aren't they? I was oh so smug this summer because I had hardly any, but now ...
I know my house is clean. It's just been painted too, but these horrible wee flies make me itch

BunnyLover7 · 13/09/2025 09:42

We have some of those flies too - doesn’t help having the food wastebin in the kitchen. They also seem to congregate around the banana tree.

CosyNavyLeader · 13/09/2025 09:46

Happy Saturday.

Im going to head into town to run a few errands and have a browse. Probably grab some lunch.

I have a nice bottle of red wine for later along with a Camembert. I'll need to pop to the supermarket though to get some crusty baguette, plus any other nibbles i fancy.

I play shopkeeper on a Saturday in my wife's art gallery. Tunes on spotify watching the world go by.

Might sell the odd painting?

SinisterBumFacedCat · 13/09/2025 10:13

Morning all!

I’m going to see my DM at her nursing home today, last few visits have been a bit rough, she’s very agitated, hopefully today will be better.

After that I’ll get a paper, read in the garden if it stays sunny, ironing to do. Then going to see Suede play Royal Festival Hall tonight. I’m so excited, have been looking forward to this for months! They are my favourite band 🖤

Becs258 · 13/09/2025 10:17

Up early as my eldest left for uni today 🥲. DH drove them, not enough room for all of us in the car. Heading down to London to see my parents, then off to watch Brentford tonight.

gingercat02 · 13/09/2025 10:17

Morning all
Just relaxing with a coffee and Saturday Kitchen, will have some breakfast shortly.
My godson is coming to Newcastle uni today, so I'm meeting his mum for lunch and a few drinks, she might be a mess as he is the last of 3 to leave in 3 years.
Then home for fajitas and a bit of telly after the lads come home from the match.

potato08 · 13/09/2025 10:18

Not up to much today.
Dh away with work.
Older dd away with a friend.
Younger dd needs to get started on a project she has to do.
I've got washing in and on the line.
It's been a rough weel with a funeral and various hosting activities, so I think I might just chill today.
