Good Morning All! What are you all up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. I've been awake since dd1 got up to get ready for work at 6am & sort of snoozed until 8 when I gave up and came down. She fed the cats so they're both back upstairs on the end of my bed.

I've text dd and asked if she'd like me to do anything to help her pack for uni but she says she's pretty much done, there are just a few bits she'll wash and tumble when she gets in. I feel a bit like a spare part - I thought she might struggle with working long hours, and packing this week, but she's done 🤷‍♀️.

Today's very exciting plan is tidy the kitchen, list some things on Vinted, wash until the basket's empty and nip for drinks and breakfast for the train to London tomorrow. None of that will take long but dd2's room is a pigsty and that's her today job so I've offered to help get it straight - that will take a long while I think.

Whatever's left of the day, I'll spend either crocheting, or painting peg dolls. Most likely the dolls - I'm so close to the bottom of my list (it's likely to grow again though!).

We're having chicken salad wraps for tea, accompanied by a glass of wine for me. Then showers, and wait for dd to get home so we can triple check she has everything she needs!

What about all of you? 🙂

This morning I made lentil and veg soup. Had some for lunch and it was really good. Also made a marinade for lamb for tomorrow.

This afternoon I went for a hill walk with DH. Just got back. About to have a cup of tea and find something to watch online while he catches up on the footie.

Judellie · 13/09/2025 15:58

Fighting off a cough/cold today.
DD made me breakfast of sausage and scrambled egg.
Took DD to work but every time I tried to talk I was wracked by coughing. The plan afterdropping DD off was then to go to my auntie's and show her the photos from my niece's wedding yesterday, but my auntie is over 80 and I couldn't risk giving her a cold, so cried off.
Awful venue for niece's wedding, didn't have a proper roof, had really steep stairs and then it started to rain.
We'd have left but DD and DS came for the evening and it wasn't fair to leave DD with DS as he has ASD and she'd have ended up looking after him. So DH and I sat in the corner downstairs like the ghosts of Christmas Past while they danced away with their cousins in the room at the top of the stone stairs. They both had a great time. I went up a few times but flashing lights can give DH migraines so he had to stay downstairs.
Grateful I had my coat.
As we were so late back, I have a bad head - I've basically spent the day with Beechams lemon (but now it's finished so resorted to lemsip), hot drinks and, when up to it, reading my book which is Love, Iris by Elizabeth Noble.
Sent DH out for shopping so we had chicken soup and rolls for lunch. Unfortunately he couldn't find any Beechams.
DS kindly unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher then headed out to see his friends in the shops.
DD thankfully is finding her own way back from work so I don't need to go out again.
DH has also been in and out of bed for naps but he doesn't have a cold- lucky him.
I was wrapped up inside my Christmas jumper earlier, just to keep warm and snuggly.
Not even got here til nearly 4, just about up to reading everyone else's weeekends now.
Thanks for the thread @lucysmam

@MonsteraAddict I've attached a couple of pics. Elizabeth is my favourite I've ever done! I'm currently working on Geronimo (penguins/sealife), Cave Baby, and...erm...The First Drawing. They're all in various stages of painted-ness. Geronimo will be finished Monday now probably and then I'll look at another set.

Oh they are so cute!! Well done - i would quickly get obsessed with these. Thank you for showing me Flowers

I've repacked suitcase 1 - LOADS of unused space but we need to be able to move it tomorrow. Been for drinks for the train but suggested we leave early tomorrow & get Greggs brekky 😋. Another set of dolls are almost ready to varnish but I'll do details on Monday now.

I've got "ants in my pants" itching to do something for dd...nothing to do.

I've poured a drink instead, will eat tea then shower & relax for the evening before setting my early alarm!

@MonsteraAddict I've probably painted a thousand or so in 4 years working as a TA at my school - I see so many I'd like to do but they do get costly/take up space (school pays mostly but sometimes I've seen a set a really want to do, or book I want to paint for display so I do occasionally buy a set of 50 dolls).

Eeeek, I've just realised it's university moving day for DD tomorrow.

FWIW she sounds like she's well prepared and I'm sure she'll be fine 🙂

I'm in London (albeit I've always been in London and never left). It's a fabulous place to live / go to uni / be a young person.

Hoping tomorrow goes smoothly for her and you too @lucysmam ❤️

To all those mums sending their children off to university.... I found that being able to get them a grocery delivery was a weight off my mind - at least I knew they would have something to eat! I just set their address up on one of the supermarket websites and then ordered as normal. Of course it only works if they are home for the delivery, and probably not needed if they are in a catered hall. You can also send them Amazon packages etc. If they have forgotten something crucial... like a duvet!

Ironically dd1 has moved into her uni halls today and has indeed forgotten to pack her duvet!! 😬

Argos deliver to the local Sainsbury's too, which we found helpful.
The trouble with supermarket deliveries is they usually have a minimum spend and often there isn't space to store that amount of food in shared kitchens.

Edited

we used to do it for the big or heavy stuff that’s hard to carry or the things that keep well. So normal weekly food padded out with loo roll, drinks, tins, pasta etc. these would be stored under the bed! worked a well and always appreciated!

Absolutely @Lifejigsaw

I was up shortly after 8am and had a big breakfast. 3 eggs and 2 rounds of well-buttered toast.
Put the washing machine on to do a small load of "lights", as I'm now in "thinking about what I want to wear on holiday" mode, and making sure the options are washed and ready. This coming week I'll be wearing "things I definitely don't want to take". We're off to the east coast of the US, so the weather will be much like here.
I then went out and did a little bit more weeding. Went down the driveway and pulled up the worst ones, then hacked a bit at some of the neighbours lawn that's invading my driveway. Not really sure how to get rid of it. Went at it at a tool designed for the purpose, but it didn't really help. Tried weedkiller and also boiling water. And although that's dried it up, it still seems very stubborn and well-rooted.
Still feeling pretty achy after yesterdays mammoth weeding session. My hips and the tops of my legs are still very tired, and my hands and fingers are definitely still feeling it.
I'm going to run the hoover round in a bit, but I think the mopping can wait until tomorrow.
Time for a coffee!
