A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Yeah, if he won a by election, he could stand to be leader presumably. But surely his candidacy would be in Starmer's gift?

Yeah, I don't know the workings of Labour candidate selection. The other possible way to get rid of Starmer may be for his constituency party to have a vote of no confidence triggering a by election in his own constituency.

Who’s said that? It’s VERY significant if seasoned political journalists are voicing that view on a flagship BBC service.

(Oh no! I feel conflicted about him getting the boot just as I did with Rayner. He’s a godsend to the opposition.)

Totally. (I never thought I'd be agreeing with that!)

Sorry I was driving so couldn't reply. It was one of the BBC political commentators in chat with the presenter. Saying that MPs are being much louder behind closed doors and they view him as a liability especially with Welsh elections coming up etc. That he is seen as cold/doesn't listen and that his clique around him are the same.

He may survive conference and the budget but that's a "may" rather than a certainty.

Michael Fabricant said on Jeremy Vine yesterday that he didn’t think Starmer would go because Labour hove different rules for ousting their PM to the Tories, Ie no way to call a vote of no confidence. tHe did however add that Starmer is a dead man walking.

Ah interesting. I'm happy to keep Starmer because he guarantees they lose the next election but there must be some mechanism for ousting him?
Also isn't ironic, yet again, that Tories are more democratic than Labour??

Could somebody put a motion through at conference to change the rules? Or do we think they're happy with them?

This. Because the opposition is not yet ready for government. So unfortunately the best of the worst scenarios is him hanging on and destroying Labour’s chances of ever making s comeback.

Another in agreement here! My concern is who the replacement might be: you know the left of the party would push hard for one of their own and that would be utterly disastrous for the country.

It’s the same with Trump. I abhor him and everything he stands for, but with the alternative in Vance I’d rather take my chances with the Orange One.

Edited

There was polling by YouGov only a month ago showing that Starmer's constituency would favour Your Party over Labour.

Oh god. ‘Your Party’ who won’t allow members in if they are sex realists. They’re definitely not my fcking party. 🤢

Still if they help split the vote.

The irony is not lost. That would be hilarious if Starmer was ousted in his own constituency by a Your Party candidate

I think even they might be on the verge of giving up.

It's just you and me now!

TheNuthatch · 13/09/2025 09:53

I've just read that there is speculation that Andrew Gwynne may be stepping down as MP (Manchester MP who got caught sending awful whatsapp messages).
Burham could stand at the by election. If Starmer and co block Burnham from standing, the seat would likely fall to Reform. They would have to choose between Burnham or Reform.

See he should have been sacked anyway. If Burnham stands then that would be a clear indication of his intent?

I didn’t realise he hadn’t been sacked!! WTH how could they justify not sacking him.
