A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

"The people who have spent the last decade calling their political opponents fascists, nazis, and so on: they have blood on their hands. And they need to look in the mirror now, and stop."

👏

What I'd really like would be for this murder to be the catalyst which gives people the courage to call out the woke fuckwittery where unthinking idiots brand any opinion they don't like with inflammatory hyperbole like 'fascist' or 'nazi' or 'racist'.or 'scum'

If every politician - Left, Right, and Centre - called it out calmly, politely but firmly (and certainly refrained from doing it themselves, Rayner and Lammy ffs !!!)... and every commentator and influencer too... then it might just change the vitriol and political anger, snd give our society a cats chance in hell of survival.

I reported that post @TheNuthatch , although I might not have been the only one. It was a sick comment, which I assumed was intended to provoke. I'm glad others didn't have to read it before it was deleted.

Ok, fair enough.

Burnham is ramping up to challenge Starmer, perhaps as early as next May. He's set to criticise him at the conference and he's cosying up to Lucy Dog Whistle Powell as he forges alliegence. Brace for more wealth tax heckling.

He's clearly never spent any time on MN.

Very true.

I do hope that what's happened in Utah gives some pause for thought. Those who readily throw those labels of far-right, fascist, nazi etc need to reflect.

I can't help but laugh when I hear socialists and lefties lose it and start the name calling of any conservative a nazi or fascist, or even liken them to Hitler. I think they forget that the fascist movement (Including Hitler and Mussolini) were in fact left of centre just like sociast/Labour in their beliefs!
Methinks they all need a damn good history lesson.

The Times are reporting that Starmer knew about the "damning" emails before PMQ's on Wednesday. I don't think he's going to last much longer as PM.

Can Burnham become leader if he isnt an MP?

No idea. However it's going to be a white male. Labour can't comprehend anything else.

Yeh I think he's a gonna too now

Upstartled · 13/09/2025 07:42

Yeah, it would be messy though, it's allowable but not at all usual. There's some precedent, Douglas-Home came via the HoL and then dropped the peerage and hopped over to MP via a bi-election.

Blimey. If he does it’ll be a bit goes around comes around from trying to benefit from the tide which got rid of Boris Johnson.

By-election!🤣

I can't help wondering if there will be an et tu, Brute? moment at the Labour Conference. He's lost his gatekeeper and with no-one in the deputy leader post for the conference, he's going to have a tough time of it. In all honesty, this all couldn't have happened at a better time, it's almost as if it's been orchestrated(hmmmm).
I now know for definite, the popcorn function on my microwave will not cope, I may have to spring for beer as well.

CaveMum · 13/09/2025 08:08

It’s worth noting that there is some reporting coming out that Charlie Kirk’s killer came from a die-hard MAGA family and there are rumours he was a follower of Nick Fuentes (nope, never heard of him either) who believes Charlie Kirk was not right-wing enough.

Time will tell and, hopefully, the truth will out, but we all need to be very careful about jumping to conclusions as to the motivations and apportioning blame one way or the other.

Forgive me if I'm being dense here, but couldn't Starmer just stop Burnham gaining a peerage, or block him from standing in a by election?
I'm not aux fait with how the Labour Party works.

Now there's a thing. How would it work if a labour MP stepped down from a dyed in the wool Labour seat (Maybe Brighton and Hove?) specifically to allow Andy Burnham to be helipcoptered in. Would that then put him in a position to fight for leader?

I haven't read or heard any of those rumours. I'm sure there are lots of theories swirling around. As you say, hopefully the truth will out. We do know for certain that the bullet casings were engraved - hey fascist, catch.
All I know is that a young man was brutally murdered for wrong think.

Yeah, if he won a by election, he could stand to be leader presumably. But surely his candidacy would be in Starmer's gift?

After the way Astra Zeneca was treated over the Covid debacle, it's hardly surprising they have lost confidence and taken their business elsewhere. I posted yesterday Merck had pulled out of London, it's not looking good is it?
