If you are mid-forties, how old are your children?

Just musing on this as I recently told people I was taking a day off to attend my daughter's graduation and they assumed I meant from nursery 😂

I'm mid-forties and my children are 21 and 17.

InMyShowgirlEra · 09/09/2025 00:40

My husband is 44 and his kids are 15 and 5.

Early forties

I have an 8 and an 11 year old

Ozgirl76 · 09/09/2025 04:41

I’m 47 and mine are 13 and 15. I would say in my circle I am completely average. A few mums are well into their 50s now and the youngest one I know is about 40.

Mamadothehump · 09/09/2025 04:48

45 — 20, 18 & 16

Dogosaurus · 09/09/2025 05:01

I’m 45 and my children are 21, 19 and 16.

Our youngest has just finished secondary school and I feel elated about that, I can’t imagine having young children at my age. Saying that, I had my first child at 24 and can’t imagine my oldest having children in only 3 years time, but having babies in our 40s would have been too old for us.

Surgarblossom · 09/09/2025 05:02

46 - DC is 5

itsgettingweird · 09/09/2025 06:13

PhaseFour · 09/09/2025 06:36

When I was 45, my DCs were 10, 12, 14 and 23.

Partridgewell · 09/09/2025 06:39

I'm 46 and my kids are 21, 19 and 11.

I was thinking about this the other day because I saw a clip of Reggie Perrin and watched an episode. In the series, Reggie is in his mid 40s and his kids are adults, married with children of their own and this is presented as totally normal. Obviously it's a reflection of how society has changed and the average age of parents has been going up since that time. But I found it really jarring 🤣

Thickasabrick89 · 09/09/2025 06:42

AutumnalLight · 09/09/2025 06:44

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 09/09/2025 06:50

I’m 47, Dd is 24. Have to say I’m very glad that I had her young. I feel I got my life back in my 40s.

48mumof6 · 09/09/2025 07:01

I’m 49 today and mine are 29,28,26,24,22 and 21.

Londonnight · 09/09/2025 07:01

At 45 mine were 28, 26 24 and 3

Oldglasses · 09/09/2025 07:17

At 45 my DC were 12 and 14. Pretty common where I live, not many parents had first DC earlier than late 20s.

No I don’t think it’s unusual @TheGreatWesternShrew - but so many of my colleagues don’t have kids until they are 39/40 - partly due to house buying but also to get their career going.
