If you are mid-forties, how old are your children?

Just musing on this as I recently told people I was taking a day off to attend my daughter's graduation and they assumed I meant from nursery 😂

I'm mid-forties and my children are 21 and 17.

Lots of people kidding themselves that they are still mid-forties 😂

Fair enough. Am in end 40s not mid 😎

Runnersandtoms · 08/09/2025 21:54

At 45 I had 17, 15 and 13 year olds. I know people 10 years older and younger than me with kids the same age as me.

46 - with a 25, 15, 14, 6 and 4yr olds

@everychildmatters i was pregnant on my 21st, 30th and 40th plan to have a party for my 50th!!

Do not even look at any man on your 50th. Nor even passing by. Book a day in an all women silent convent for your 50th. Just to be safe sure 😘

I'm 41 and dc will be 19 next month.

I usually get the same assumption when I say I have dc that they're a small child, and are then surprised when they're at Uni not preschool!

Lauz841 · 08/09/2025 22:00

I am 42 and my children are 20, 11 and 3. All born in different decades. Not through choice, it just takes us a mega long time to get pregnant! X

SparklingXmas · 08/09/2025 22:00

46 with a 10, 16 and 18 yo

Port1aCastis · 08/09/2025 22:02

In the middle of your forties. So a couple of years either side of 45. I don’t believe you didn’t know that!

clearly i know what it means! I meant what is op classing as “mid 40s” as she doesn’t say how old she is and theres a range of ages commenting. To me “mid 40s” is right in the middle hence me saying “when i’m 45”

by your definition theres a 5 year window and kids ages will be a bit different at 43 v 47!

basinbasin · 08/09/2025 22:03

I am fascinating by people having an 18yr old and a 2 yr old. What is it like?

basinbasin · 08/09/2025 22:04

fascinated!

Littletreefrog · 08/09/2025 22:04

I'm 41 with an 18 year old and 15 year old but then my DB is 43 with a newborn.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 08/09/2025 22:04

I think there uscsuch a range! Im 48, dc ages 8 and 10.

A school friend because a grandmother the same day I became a mum.

I have similar aged friends with GC, with chikdren at Uni, and with 1 yr olds!

Livpool · 08/09/2025 22:05

45 and DS is 9

Secondstart1001 · 08/09/2025 22:06

Wow op you started young! You must be loving your freedom!
Mine are 19 and 13 … hardly see 19 yo as they are at uni and 13 year old is with me 50% of the time.

Deadringer · 08/09/2025 22:07

I am older, but when I was 46 my dc were 20, 18, and 13, 7 and 2.

lizhmj · 08/09/2025 22:08

I’m 45
twins age 6 (adopted) I’m saying that because people query the gap
one age 5
one age 4

Did you steal my children? 😁

How old are you? Am 48 next week and these are my children's ages

Oh, maybe I did? Would you like them back? The 4 year old is definitely not mine..

(46 next month)

Amuseaboosh · 08/09/2025 22:10

2 days old 😊

Crystalonhere · 08/09/2025 22:12

basinbasin · 08/09/2025 22:13

@Deadringer what's it like having such a range of ages?

lizhmj · 08/09/2025 22:15

Amuseaboosh · 08/09/2025 22:10

TulipTuesday · 08/09/2025 22:17

I’m 45 with a 24yo and a 20yo.

I also have a 2yo grandson.

JayJayEl · 08/09/2025 22:17

My wife is 46 (and I am almost 40) and we have a 4 year old. As a lesbian couple it took us almost 7 years to have a child (failed fertility treatments, miscarriage, so took the adoption route). Because everything took so long it means we've made the (very difficult) decision to stop here. So happy we have our gorgeous little one, but often feel a pang of sadness that there will be no siblings.

We live in quite a deprived area and we are definitely some of the eldest parents in the school yard! I'm sure there's a link there?

Deadringer · 08/09/2025 22:18

@basinbasin it's like having 2 families really, it was tough at times with teens/adults coming home late at night with little ones in bed, stuff like that, and going out as a family, or on holidays isn't practical.

HowAmITheCatsGranny · 08/09/2025 22:24

42 and my dc are 26, 23, & 18.. I get a lot of double takes (I also look on the younger side which doesn’t help).
