I was on the Tube heading towards King's Cross.

Fellow passengers were impressed that it worked deep underground!

John Lewis

We were driving home from tesco. Every driver around us reached for their phones.

TheendofmrY · 07/09/2025 18:51

Driving. I freaked the fuck out wondering what was wrong with the car and didn’t realise until looking at my phone after.

Wadadli · 07/09/2025 18:51

On a train from Brum to Leeds via Sheffield. I turned off the alarm notification

But what if you get in a car accident or your car breaks down or you witness a crime

I don't drive.

If I witness a crime, I'll phone the police when I get home.

TheDayWeGotMinnie · 07/09/2025 18:53

On the M1

Aussiegold · 07/09/2025 18:53

Didn't get it, must not be important enough to contact!

space99 · 07/09/2025 18:55

In the gym on the treadmill. Mine went off about 30 seconds before DH’s phone. Didn’t hear anybody else’s alert as had my AirPods in.

MrsClatterbuck · 07/09/2025 18:57

In the car heading to the shops. It went at 3.12 and not 3 when I was in a car park. I realised it was 3 and was thinking that it didn't work on my phone and I heard it on the phones of people who were walking past the car.

When it did go off I could see a message on my phone though the message was also relayed audibly.

SilkCottonTree · 07/09/2025 18:58

I turned mine off but was out and about (at a museum) so heard other peoples’ - not all of them went off at 3 on the dot, some a few minutes later.

Xiaoxiong · 07/09/2025 18:59

In the kitchen cooking, I thought it was the timer for the oven going off.

socks1107 · 07/09/2025 19:02

At home blow drying my hair

DontCallMeBaby · 07/09/2025 19:02

In a holiday rental flat in Pimlico. I missed my own reminder but fortunately had just read a WhatsApp message mentioning it so wasn’t surprised. DDs phone vibrated itself into the wash basin.

Delphigirl · 07/09/2025 19:02

Having tea and cake with my son in a random golf club cafe (we do NOT golf, but there are antiques shops there which we had just mooched through)

Oh dear. You are going to be eaten by zombies, while the rest of us run.

Uricon2 · 07/09/2025 19:07

In the kitchen, phone on desk in study. Thought it was a funny noise on DH's TV programme. Only when I read the alert later did I remember.

Not going to be great in the zombie apocalypse, I don't think.

DrowningInSyrup · 07/09/2025 19:16

What are we supposed to do if one does go off? If a bomb is about to land on us for instance, I think I'd rather not know. I don't have a bomb shelter. They must think there are quite a few things afoot.

Letsgoroundagainnow · 07/09/2025 19:19

CeciliaDuckiePond · 07/09/2025 18:30

Why would I need to phone anyone on a 30 min trip to Sainsbury's?

If someone phones me, I'll see it when I get home. Even in an emergency, there would be no practical benefit in getting the call at 15:05 instead of 15:35.

Oh I suppose you could get a flat tyre, or trip or fall a d need help?

But I suppose you’ve pre planned you won’t, so that’s ok?

I think you’ll find it’s fit the unexpected, not the expected?

It will tell you, depending on the issue.

What do you think we all did before mobile phones were invented?😆

But I'm not sure that the majority of people will be able to do what they suggest. Hopefully, it's just get home, get inside.

We watched Threads and decided not to bother surviving.

Seriously, I can see local situations where this would be useful. Maybe they need to come up with something more commanding than a strange beep.

It will depend on the situation. We had it when we were evacuated in Rhodes because of the wildfires. It told us to go to a certain town. Once we got there we found the evacuation centre. The info can only be limited i suppose to make sure people get to safety. Then its up to you.

SliceofTosst · 07/09/2025 19:31

Asleep with earphones in. That's a true rude awakening. Jumped out my skin.

Everygoodnameisgone · 07/09/2025 19:34

No idea, I disabled it. All part of their scaremongering plan.
