If you live in England and are not white are you considering leaving the country?

I'm really starting to worry about our future here now that anti immigration / nationalistic feelings are running so high. Our town is full of flags, reform is on the rise (and is pushing everyone, including the other parties further and further to the right) and every day there is news of some sort of anti immigration / anti asylum seekers / stop the boats protest. Dh has said for the first time ever that he doesn't feel safe anymore when out and about. I worry about the kids' future. They were born here and consider themselves British but what if a large proportion of the population doesn't? I feel it's just going to get worse.

I don't really want to leave. I have lived here for more than 20 years. I feel at home here. My kids are at home here. We have a massive mortgage and I don't really fancy starting all over again now that I'm in my mid forties. Also, not sure where we could go as the whole world seems to be becoming more right wing and intolerant and more importantly we obviously both would need to find new jobs first.

Is anyone else worried? Is anyone else considering emigrating? At what point would you say that we (as in anyone visibly not ethnic English or Anglo saxons or whatever, ie not white) need to get out?

Ds works as a political commentator in the national press.

His take is: if Labour are still struggling at election time ( although he thinks they won’t be) they will change the voting system to PR or similar before the next GE. There’s so many new parties that the Lab/Con thing with Lib Dem in the background of old doesn’t really represent the country anymore.

And also the majority of people don’t want Reform in. So they will vote for the party most likely to defeat them. Ie, Greens and Lib Dem may switch allegiance to Labour. Remembet 70% of people don’t want Reform.

lm fucking sick of the media giving so much airtime to big gob Farage and the rest of the right wing shit. It’s a small part of the news but is dominating everything.

Edited

I really hope they aren't struggling in four years time. I completely agree that the bipartisan system isn't relevant any more.

I do hope you are right about the potential reform voters too.

My confidence in the electorate is dented after Brexshit.

This will pass.

And I lived through the dark ages of the 80s.

In what way are they doing this?

It's in the Daily Mail..so it must be true.😁👍

Are these the same "intelligent" people who believe that if a man puts on a dress and tells them he is now a woman then it must be true, although I suppose who can blame them when even Starmer was confused and needed the Supreme Court to explain it to him.

There is absolutely nothing in the quran to suggest at all that it's ok to assault and degrade women.
In fact, women are given a high place in islam. And the quran actually says the best of men are the best to their wives. And that's a fact.

The scum that do this are certainly not part of my faith. If a man chooses to go and hurt someone it's because he's an idiot, not because a religion tells him so.

The Quran and everyday life in Islamic countries are two different things.
(Same with the Bible btw.. do you think paedophile priests were thinking of the teachings and moral principles of that book while abusing children?) A mere book will not tame the beast within some..

And you know the story of Mohammed and Aisha…if this is the example to follow, I despair.

@Jerrypickerdidnt mention the Quran though. And having lived in the middle east, I know for a fact if you get 5 muslim people from different countries and quote them a passage from the Quran which you then ask them to explain, you will get 5 different answers.

Im not saying she did mention the quran.
But, she made a statement saying that these are coming here to assault and degrade women and those things are in the Islamic culture. Clearly, you just listen to other people and not learn for yourself.

It's really not the case at all. And you won't find that in any verse of the quran or even in hadiths (collections of books of sayings/teachings of the prophet)

These men who come here and do hurt/attack/rape women or girls is a complete sin in islam. And a crime also in Shariah law.
And I find them quite frankly disgusting.

As for your response, I highly doubt you would get 5 different answers. As a Muslim we all follow the same teachings. There's no 5 ways to interpret one verse from our holy book. Which also mirrors similar teachings in the old Testament and the gospel.

If islam was the problem, why is it the fastest growing religion in the world. With more women reverting to islam than men. Islam gave the rights for women more than 1400 years ago to their own property, to vote (something that we women in the UK had to go fight for 100 years ago) and to go to university, the right to own business and work, and their own money, the right to divorce, their money is their own money, but the husbands money is both hers and his, a man must pay the roof over his wives head, he should even pay her breastfeeding provide her clothing, he should never hurt or insult her.

The quran also says dont backbite, dont lie, dont steal, dont spread rumours, dont spy, dont gamble, dont drink alcohol , dont take the property of orphans, dont murder, be kind to your wife. Be kind to animals, be kind to your Muslim neighbour and your non Muslim neighbour. Give charity and help the poor. Dont disrespect your parents. Thats a major sin to even groan or moan at your parents. The best charity you can give is water. Even a smile is charitable. Islam teaches men to respect women and lower your gaze. Regardless if she is wearing a hijab or not. Even the bible says cover your hair. Or shave it off. So it's not just the quran that says women should cover but the bible too! Which is incredible because I think nuns look fantastic.

And a lot of these what we believe, including the 10 commandments (as we believe in moses as well) are also in the bible.

Yes, you will get the odd foul pig of a man. Who will commit crimes and once he does so, he's really no longer a Muslim as he's gone against the laws of islam itself.
And he should be imprisoned.

I think if people actually sat down and learnt more about islam themselves than going what the media print and publicise they would have a more open mind on Muslims and islam.

Anyone from any walk of life, priest, rabbi, vicar, sheikh or imam who abuses a child is the lowest of the low.

Why are you citing your holy book? I have my own, called the Bible and have my own prophet called Jesus Christ who lead an exemplary life. That’s all I need, not someone else’s book and prophet. I don’t want it shoved down my throat, I have the right to choose my own path.
Jesus wasn’t a warlord brandishing knives around and marrying child brides, thank you very much!
The discussion here is not about these books anyway, but ordinary human behaviour.
Talking about what your book says will not stop the boats and how those men who come on the boats behave.

Bull shit.

I hold a MSc (well, almost there!) and I'm firmly centre.

There is a link between life experience and age i.e wisdom and losing the liberal left naiveté to become more centre/centre right.

Since when were Reform considered centrist- a party headed by the guy who brought us UKIP!

It doesn’t even need to be five different countries, according to a friend who spent many years doing community policing in Leicester, which has a lot of different iterations of Islam. Just like quoting a Bible passage will get you five different responses from different factions within the C of E, Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Methodists, Jehovah’s Witnesses etc.

I mean I know loads of people that voted for Labour in the last election, mostly work in corporate, private sector environments, definitely weren't concerned by dresses and men wearing them.

How can it even be that as Labour won a landslide victory they would be all concerned with identity politics- truly clutching there!

Your own bible indicates that Joseph was a 90yr old widow and Mary was 14! Issac was much older when he married Rebekah at 14!
In those days, social norms and cultures were different. Girls and puberty was different. There are some people in bible married at just 3 years old. Look it up!
Your own bible says happy is the one who takes his babies head and dashes it across the rock. Psalm 137.
And to kill children even nursing babies in Samuel.

Interesting, you say you believe jesus (peace be upon him) to be a prophet. You're right there. He is a prophet who worshipped God only. And never claimed to be God. Ever.

But youre completely wrong about Muhammed, peace be upon him also. He wasn't a knife brandishing warlord. He fought in battles yes. There are many crusades in the bible as well as our own forefathers fighting in the wars etc.

Im citing my holy book to give a better understanding to give people a clearer view rather than people reading the daily fail and believing the garbage.

Memberofstaff · 29/08/2025 13:06

Please don't feel you're not wanted here. It's a tiny, but very vocal, minority that are protesting.

I'm white and live in a very Tory area. I've only seen one flag near me, thank goodness. Local hotel protests have been met with an even bigger counter-protest, singing "there are many, many more of us than you" which is spot on.

daffodilandtulip · 29/08/2025 13:07

reversegear · 29/08/2025 05:39

The protests are against “illegal” immigration, so unless you are illegal why would you feel the need to move? People have had enough of the government spending our taxes on illegals instead of looking after our people regardless of ethnicity backgrounds.

I think that perhaps depends where you live. It is very much "send them home if they don't look like me" here. We're in one of the painting roundabouts areas.

Hols23 · 29/08/2025 13:13

Where would people leave "to" though? Most people don't have citizenship of another country do they? And we're no longer in the EU. So as far as I can see, the only options for most people are other parts of the UK, or Ireland?

spoonbillstretford · 29/08/2025 13:14

There is kind of a problem with the main people voting for your party are the white working class poor - they don't pay an awful lot of tax.

So when there is a mass exodus of centrist higher rate tax payers, black or white, who do not want to fund fascism and racism, good luck with running the country. I feel sorry for those who would be left behind who never wanted Reform.

Well, it has been made a lot harder for British people to go and live or study in other countries thanks for Farage and those trailing on his coat tails. Not something he likes to talk about very often.

But it's certainly not impossible if you are skilled and have money.

I'd certainly enjoy the irony if they then realised how much they needed skilled migrants in the UK. Though Farage would probably rather run the country into the ground before he ever admitted that.

Why are you talking about characters from the Old Testament? 🤔

Jesus is in the New Testament. He was a prophet, the son of God, a holy man. Muhammad is not my prophet and never will be, and I am not interested in the Quran.

If I ever tried to lecture people in Islamic countries about Jesus, Christianity and the Bible either online or in public, there would be serious consequences. It also demonstrates the different tolerance levels of the two cultures.

Yes I agree. Had that too but I was a child then and lots went over my head. But in my teens in the 80s I really became aware of it. My dad experienced a huge amount in the 60s / 70s. Turned away from accommodation by the landlords as soon as they saw him even though he was here at the invitation of the U.K. government.
