Hyped-up activities that are actually shite.

Loads of my friends do yoga. It's really relaxing, they say. It's really mindful, they say. It's a good workout without realising you're working out, they say. It's a really nice community of people, they say.

So on Saturday morning I tried it.

It was bloody awful. Everything about it was bloody terrible. It wasn't remotely relaxing or mindful. I wasn't a very good workout and the people were cult-loke lunatics.

And I've felt a bit lightheaded, dizzy, and just not quite myself ever since.

Tell me about activities that everyone seems to have a wide-on for, but which you hated.

All the Harry Potter things, every book, film, costume, game, experience day.
This is because I am an adult.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 25/08/2025 15:47

Swimming, shopping centres, children’s parties.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/08/2025 15:50

Cinema.
Even in the v.i.p seats im uncomfortable and wonder why I bothered as my tv is far better quality than the screen I've paid to watch.

ArmchairXpert · 25/08/2025 15:53

I'd love to do yoga but I hate yoga instructors voices: they make my skin crawl.

Similarly, any organised thing with even a remote sniff of "spirituality" (retreats, healing whatever, women circles, etc) creeps me out. Not organised religion, though. (For context, I am a deeply, deeply spiritual person).

Carnival
Comedy Nights
Canal Boat Holidays

I concur with many, many of the above but I do love camping, and BodyPump works for me as an exercise class.

Interestingly, I had to stop doing a yoga class because it made me feel a bit sick, sort of like travel sick - and it didn’t go away for days afterwards.Confused

This is exactly it. I feel really travel sick from it. The fuck is that all about?! 🤔

It’s a bit of a journey to find what suits you, I enjoy Yoga but all classes and teachers are so so different so you defo can’t paint them all with the same brush. Some are very alternative and others a lot more main stream - classes in Gyms etc. I’ve done a few courses of kundalini Yoga and that is defo not for everyone even though I really enjoyed it I can see how others would hate it. I love reformer pilates too and it gets hate. Things I don’t get are running or jogging 🫣🫣 can’t believe people enjoy it!

HeWhoWouldAValiantBe · 25/08/2025 16:02

Farmers’/Community markets. Yes, you can get some unusual produce & products there. And occasionally some of the produce might be delicious and some of the products exquisite. But not often. And everything costs £££

Bowling in a bowling alley. Ugh!

I was going to say this.

It’s interesting for about 10 minutes and then just so mind numbingly dull. And the food and drinks are always shite and over priced.

Bonjamin · 25/08/2025 16:04

and cupcakes. Look delicious, taste meh.

Bowling in a bowling alley. Ugh!

This. I’m a terrible combination of highly competitive and absolutely useless at bowling. Just end up angry and refuse to go again, until a few years later when I forget how angry I get.

coxesorangepippin · 25/08/2025 14:19

Yes yoga is shit

I'll add spa days

Having a bath with other people?

Come on.

Also, tapas, anywhere other than Spain

Sharing food??? Not bloody likely

I can't stand sharing a bath, it's not romantic, it makes me feel claustrophobic. Absolutely not sharing food either.

At least in England, guitar man probably won't be droning Christy Moore's "Ride On" with his eyes shut.
(I love Christy. I hate the dirge that is Ride On)

No they'll be wailing out wonder wall by Oasis through their nose, which I'm pretty sure is worse because that song is fairly tuneless to begin with

Other things that are crap

Barbecues

Picnics

Most cases of eating outside. I don't want smoke /bugs/sand (beach picnics are terrible for this), or my hair that will inevitably be blown directly into my mouth by even the faintest of breezes, in my food

Smelly candles - give me headaches

99.99% of tik tok

Bogofftosomewherehot · 25/08/2025 16:12

Christmas
Weddings and hen dos
Yoga
Bowling
Camping
My MiLs garden parties 😂

paddyclampster · 25/08/2025 16:16

Cosy, autumn loving, twinkly lights loving types who this time next week will be wanking on about how wonderful it is to be wearing fucking boots and jumpers. I hope they have sweltered miserably this year!

Theme parks.

This. They should rename them "queue parks".

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 25/08/2025 16:18

The talk of yoga has dredged up a memory.
Went to my first class years ago and the weird German female instructor told asked me to remove my socks. I didn't want to after looking around at the gnarled dusty trotters on display. I didn't return but some time later I received an almost wordless phone call from her and had to ask who was calling, their name, etc..until I figured it out. Nutcase.

Iris2020 · 25/08/2025 16:21

Definitely watching a football match.
All things disney and Halloween.

Tupperwarelid · 25/08/2025 16:23

Those gong sound bath things. Never been but they look like my worst nightmare. How can you get comfy and relaxed on a church hall floor?

Walking holidays. If I’m going on holiday I want my feet up and a decent book and drink with the longest walk to a restaurant in the evening.

Sallycinnamum · 25/08/2025 16:24

I am evangelical about yoga! Started Hatha yoga classes in January. Has completed cured my dreadful sciatica to the point where I no longer have to take painkillers and my all round flexibility has improved no end. It's been life changing for me. You're in the wrong class OP!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 25/08/2025 16:24

Canoeing. Never again.
New years Eve.
Swimming.
Running.
Live music is always too loud unless it's an orchestra or choir without mics.
Bowling.
Minigolf.

Fayaway · 25/08/2025 16:25

I once had no choice but to go to a baby shower (a whole other thread, my boss told me she was giving me the day off - for her baby shower!) On the train going home I bit into a tacky bright blue bear-shaped “chocolate” in the party bag, to discover it was a wax melt. That wasn’t even the worst part of the day 😂

BunnyLake · 25/08/2025 16:28

SpillingWater · 25/08/2025 14:46

But these things are subjective. Some people find yoga life changing, some don't. Some people adore spa days, acai bowls, or wearing Mickey Mouse ears and going on theme park rides. None of the above do anything for me, but that doesn't mean they're shite, it just means they're not my type of thing. Likewise I don't expect any kind of universal approval of tai chi, Aperol Spritz or Edith Wharton novels.

It’s not that deep. People are just saying what they don’t like especially when it’s considered a ‘likeable’ activity.

Summer fetes for me, never been to one I’ve genuinely enjoyed (add to that, Christmas markets).

I do like an Aperol Spritz.

Yes! A bit like this:

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

Yoga's a tricky one as there are so many different disciplines, I enjoy the power yoga type and Body Balance where you come out of the class sweating and exhilarated 😅

A couple of years ago I tried a sunset beach yoga class. FML, after the sun salutations the rest of the class was spent holding hands and chanting 😳 €10 on an hour of hippy bollox 'connecting to the planet' was not money well spent.
