Hate how racist everything has become, and how quickly it’s happened.

I was just looking at facebook, and a ‘Sad face’ newsmaker article came up. Practically all the comments mentioned boats, asylum seekers etc etc. Its really getting me down.

Travelled to the south west last weekend. On the way down no flags on bridges. On the way back, in some areas, every bridge.

Its scary how quickly it’s all happening.

I think people want the government to sit up and listen This is been an issue for years - ow services are at an all time low and it’s being squeezed and the money to government are throwing at eh issue is changing the landscape.

People just want to be heard.

Yes.

And be angry with Labour for ruining what was left of a thriving economy? You seem to have missed that one.

I don’t need educating, I’m aware of the different kind of visas the UK has, how much they cost, the averaging processing time.

Which particular visas do you think are unsafe and take too long to process?

Leeds isn’t a town by the way.

Any system that allows unknown, unassessed individuals into the community is a risk. Visas are a red herring as if you can live here without them whilst claiming asylum then they are irrelevant from a security perspective. There is currently nothing to stop bad actors entering the uk and being immediately allowed to live in the community.

Duechristmas · 25/08/2025 08:56

It's always been there, it's just now people feel they have a voice to say it without regard for how it makes others feel. We're going backwards as a society.

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 25/08/2025 08:57

It is quite scary to be hearing these things even from young people who are usually much more tolerant but I think it’s because people are angry in general due to the state of public services, wage stagnation, the cost of living etc and they’re taking it out on the weakest link.

How exactly?
They are not exactly in a position of power to achieve that are they?!

PaxAeterna · 25/08/2025 08:55

What isn’t true exactly?

That they commit crime (specifically sexual assault) at the same rate as the uk population. The statistics that have been released are clear on that, hence the reluctance to release them.

Or maybe it was the £9.95 a week means they have to resort to this

I just want to say “I’m sorry”. I hope you know that there are very many people who support you, and are glad that you and your family are here. Our voices are hard to hear at times, drowned out by the clamour published by the press, but we ARE here.

Ditto. My husband’s life has been saved twice by immigrant NHS doctors, one an Indian consultant at the renal unit in Preston and the other a Bulgarian consultant surgeon of gastroenterology at Blackpool Vic. Exceptional people, both, who went way above and beyond. We shall be eternally grateful that they chose to bring their skills to the UK.

Westfacing · 25/08/2025 09:02

There was a woman from Epping on Times Radio yesterday - she has a teenage daughter whose school is near the migrant hotel.

She sounded like a reasonable person in the main but mentioned how there was now a poster on the tube/tube station warning that showing your genitals in public is unlawful - the implication being that these migrants needed to be reminded of this as it's something they were doing/would do.

Turns out that the poster is from a TFL anti-sexual harassment campaign dating back to 2021 - nothing to do with the migrants in the hotel.

There's so much misinformation and hatred being pedalled

I am ethnically Indian. Where we are now is scary for anyone who is not white. I had an Aunty who was spat at last week and the level of verbal abuse experienced by the whole family is increasing. Most of my family work in the NHS as Doctors and Nurses and have done now for three generations. It is somewhat ironic that I see lots of comments about immigration causing problems with NHS appointments when our NHS is dependent of large amount foreign workers and beyond this is hugely ethnically diverse.

There seems to be a deliberate effort to “other” anyone who is not English. We have the same basic issues and challenges as anyone who is white and have lived harmoniously and productively in mixed communities for years. I often read online comments around there being no go areas for white people in the UK- Tower Hamlets is often used. Not true, but I do hear it stated. It would be a brave person of colour at the moment that would be opting to do some shopping in Epping I think.

. Honestly there are areas in Tower Hamlets, E3 to be specific which are incredibly disturbing to walk through as a non Asian, or perhaps even more specifically non Muslim woman. I'm an architect and mixed race, getting to one of my projects in E3 was a lottery whether I would be abused walking to and from it and the nearest station. I realised it was particularly risky during school drop off or pick up when lots of family's were moving around in big numbers.

Over the time I was visiting site there I had used nappies thrown at me by a woman from a flat, was spat at my a man, had various verbal abuse thrown at me around my race, weirdly had my leg slapped by passers by quite a few times while something shouted at me, was told to f off more times than I have fingers by people, stared at. Really I'm not easily intimidated but it was the most unwelcoming and edgy I have felt at 8am in the morning. The walk to site was less than 10 mins. It wasn't just directed at women either the contractors who were mainly white had various negative encounters too from locals some of which involved Police.

There is a big difference in the treatment from passers by in Aldgate and some of the back streets around E3.

I'm sorry to hear how you are now feeling.

Climbingrosexx · 25/08/2025 09:03

The tide is turning and it's hardly surprising, all the majority of people wanted was for governments to listen. We simply cannot afford this but why let the truth get in the way of an opportunity to call someone racist

unless you are one of the thousands of UK doctors to have just completed their F2 placement and are now unemployed as specialist training places are open to international applicants and UK applicants are not prioritised despite the hundreds of thousands we have spent training them.

Amazing how teens and young adults who’ve experienced the ‘benefits of diversity’ flatly reject these ideals.

Thegreyhound · 25/08/2025 09:08

Sandyshandy · 24/08/2025 22:23

It is frightening. But it’s not surprising- people are frustrated, they don’t like seeing their local area changed by an influx of people with very different behavioural norms and cultures that may be at odds with the values that most people hold. They like it even less when groups actively demand that established norms are changed țo accommodate new arrivals if it is perceived that it disadvantages the locals

This is a clear example of the nonsense that is whipping up this hysteria.
As for different cultural norms, if you mean sexist ones then what about the fact that most of the England protestors seem to have plenty of hatred for women and convictions for DV between them?

You’re missing the point. Because there is an unsavoury minority, as there are in all groups of humans, every person with their skin colour is tarred with the same brush by racists, regardless of how long their families have been established in the UK and what skills they have brought with them. Imagine how you would feel if you were born in the UK but were experiencing a very worrying increase in aggressive behaviour or language towards you simply because of the colour of your skin.

Amen,

we can’t support our own but we accept thousands in boats, trains, Lorrie’s etc . They do not belong here. Save our money for own people and send them back. Our future is fucked otherwise.

“Our own people” - I hate this term.

We are all human beings. We are all living together on planet earth. They are not a different species, they are the same as you.

In actual fact the people making your life worse are the millionaires and billionaires hoarding their money and wealth in offshore account not caring that others are homeless and hungry. Flying around in their private jets, to and from their air conditioned mansions, completely indifferent to their climate impact which will lead to the suffering and death of millions within a generation or two.

HiddenRiver · 25/08/2025 09:10

Spookyspaghetti · 25/08/2025 01:33

I really don’t. I come from the inner city. But why should I have to take my child to play in a park surrounded by flags erected by racists? It’s not right and I’m going to stand up and say so. It’s not fair for the far-right and average Jo blog racist to put children in the middle of their political dispute.

Believing that people are equal is not a sheltered view point. Fearing others who are different because of memes and conspiracy theories read in an online echo chamber is very sheltered.

Really well said @Spookyspaghetti thank you. 😊

I hate to say this but that sounds unbelievable! I mean that in both ways - either you're not telling the truth or if true it's one of the most extraordinary things I've ever read on here.

Did you report these many physical assaults to the police?

There is no evidence that women and girls are more at risk from these people.
Asylum seekers and refugees commit crimes at similar rates to the rest of the population.

Having spent a lot of time with asylum seekers and refugees, their values like most of the world’s values are about being safe and secure, being able to feed themselves and their families. It’s a difficult system to be stuck in so not many will be feeling much “kindness” . You honestly should get to know some asylum seekers and challenge your misconceptions about them.

It’s not racism. It’s anger at how illegals come to the UK and are housed, fed and given healthcare when our own people are struggling to get these things. We need much tougher asylum laws-for example, giving someone asylum because of their sexuality is insane and open to abuse. The asylum laws were created out of the horror of the genocidal WW2 in our own continent.
people rightly wanted to show compassion but we’ve ended up with unintended consequences. The world is very different now. No one should be called racist for wanting strong borders. We looked at emigrating many years ago when the kids were little. We didn’t because dh was offered a fantastic job but I don’t remember thinking Canada was racist because you had to meet strict criteria to be allowed in. And I don’t think it racist to be expected to fit in with the social norms of the country to which you’re emigrating.
