This beautiful country has turned into a shit hole because of their attitude. The people in this country would rather burn down hotels and claim benefits. We were the envy of the world and now our young citizens are being taught not to start families and work. They would rather live like tramps. My grandparents who fought in 2 world wars would be rolling in his grave. We are teaching our young people to be expert arsonists to burn down hotels with children in it, to not work and to use tax payers money to go to 9 Oasis concerts.

I genuinely blame social media. Often people see something, misrepresentation or outright lie, and other than actually doing their research they just believe it and stick to it. People won’t admit when they’re wrong and change their opinion either, so they double down. It’s like vaccines = autism. One man told a lie and now thousands of people share it online and truly believe it. Which is bizarre because I’d rather have autism (I have audhd) than die of fucking tuberculosis.

We need to normalise doing your own research to form your own opinion and changing your opinion when you have more facts. Neither are shameful. They just require effort. I’m really worried about the state of the world.

ETA I misread your post and thought you were supporting asylum seekers but I can see now that you very much aren’t.

Your response says it all.
Our old people have paid taxes all their lives. Now we have our young people taking it in benefits and buying vapes, beer, ultra processed food and oasis tickets. If they had any pride and ambition the spongers would go and get a job and get some pride for themselves. Take ownership of this beautiful country we live in.

I expect our young people are a little demotivated by house prices running at 8 times an average salary or 10 x the full time minimum wage - rather than the 3 x salary that older people enjoyed.

They will also, if they have a family, be demotivated by the fact that many cannot hope to match the amount they get on benefits with earnings much less improve their situation.

But I suppose these are topics for another thread.

I moved away from the UK several years ago and was chatting with DH about moving back. Until all the protests around the hotels erupted. I’m sickened by many peoples’ attitudes towards those fleeing unimaginable horrors and hoping for a better life. Do people really think they want to leave their homes? Their established networks of family and friends? This is a last resort. The protests are gross and people who are bothered by the situation need to redirect their anger from those seeking asylum to the government who let the system end up like this. I, for one, can say I would be first in the queue for an escape from some of the situations these people have come from, and the human thing for us to do is give them some comfort so they can get back on their feet.

And so what if most of the current hotel inhabitants are young men? People need to stop parroting the far right crap about them hiding from fighting etc. Would you not want your partner/son to head to a new country first to ensure passage is safe for your children and that you can actually secure a visa/employment/accommodation?

Finally, this situation is so completely different to the homelessness situation. It’s a different department, different budget, different priorities (governmental and personal), different barriers. People without housing have been unquestionably failed by the system and absolutely need help from the government and our society. You can be angry about that without putting blame on asylum seekers and hotels.

And what do you think about the fact that we've never been given a choice?

This is OUR country and we've NEVER even been asked!!!

That's not democracy and that's why people are fuming........

I honestly don’t think you can have a reasoned opinion on this issue when you don’t even live here, and haven’t for several years? The UK has changed a lot in the last decade, so you can’t possibly know what it’s like here now as you don’t walk or live amongst us, so how can you tell a nation of people they’re not behaving how they should when you don’t even live here?

Why use the phrase "your young people" then.

“Our country” what a load of fucking bullshit. Who picks your food? Who care for your elderly dumped in care homes? Who works as hospital porters? Cause it’s not “us”.

Our fucking country indeed…I bet if you or one of your kids moved to another country you’d barely even bother to learn the language as most Brits don’t. Then whinge about it.

And ask yourself this - are you complaining about the profits you’re living off from the arms we sell to bomb these people?! Have you campaigned to stop that?! Or do you not give a flying fuck?

Falseknock · 24/08/2025 16:54

The unemployed wants to be arsonist's, get fat jabs, eat ultra processed foods and benefits. We are moving in the right direction. After all of that most of the people in this country has no teeth in their mouth by 30 and want fat jabs to look buff. They want boob jobs and fat jabs on the NHS to help with their mental health. All this is happening while our old people are suffering. It's a joke nobody is teaching them. You get nothing for nothing.

If our government gives you what you want fat jabs, boob jobs, benefits will you leave the asylum seekers alone so they can get on and pay taxes to support our elderly?

How much housing is "enough"? What happens when it is full up and we are back in the same situation a few years later?

You sound as though you think we're going to allow every migrant to stay here and won't have any land left. According to statistics atm, the UK has 6% "built on" land.
So far this Labour government has made more realistic and practical efforts to curb migration than the last gov. And we can't have 0 migration, we have an aging population and need people to do jobs us Brits don't want to do, like picking veg.

Snailssitonwhales · 24/08/2025 16:57

Street Homeless people are often offered accommodation and support. It is usually more complex than simply putting this group of people up in hotels as they have many issues, Inc possible addiction, mental health illnesses etc, which makes it difficult to stay in mainstream accommodation.

It doesn't need to be a them Vs us.

One reason it is mostly men is because the journeys are so horrendous so they make them as they are often the strongest and most likely to survive and find some sort of work to send money home. Men are also likely to be drawn into fight on what the UK would say is the 'wrong side' so they have to flee.

We are extremely lucky in the UK to not have the constant threat of having to abandon our homes and lives, jobs etc go flee.

The majority of sexual assaults, child abuse, domestic abuse etc in the UK is by white males, where are the protests about all of those incidents?

What is an illegal immigrant, I’m not being difficult I truly don’t know? I didn’t think we could have illegal immigrants in this country I thought they were either immigrants or asylum seekers

I guess someone who comes here illegally….though of course they could be a genuine asylum seeker. But some may also be economic migrants. People may disappear once in the country and vanish, though then I guess they won’t be housed or getting welfare. There’s certainly a lot of illegal employment round here, deliveroo drivers, car washes. Every now and then places get raided.

Port1aCastis · 24/08/2025 16:59

If the asylum seekers in hotels get evicted where would they go?

IdaGlossop · 24/08/2025 17:00

Sadly, the situation with irregular migration is a gift for the far right. Successive governments over the last 10 years have handled it badly. As a consequence, trust has fallen. Proportion matters. 200 hotels in England are being used to house migrants so relatively few communities are directly affected. But those communities were not consulted. I understand why they are angry. Countries across the west are struggling with the same issues as the UK - we are not unique. The possible solutions are many - ECHR reform, faster processing, stopping the supply of inflatable boats to gangs, returns agreements with safe countries, the creation of a safe route. Among all this noise, we have to retain our humanity and offer sanctuary to those coming from dangerous countries - Eritrea, Afghanistan - as we have done for generations.

I live in Cornwall and we have lots of non-British people in Treliske hospital and working on farms. They’re desperate on farms for people to help out pick the veg but Brits never apply because it’s hard fucking work, so it’s typically staffed by non-Brits who are willing to just get on with it. We genuinely couldn’t survive without immigrants.

The asylum seekers in hotels are also here legally.

It’s not illegal to seek asylum. If they were here illegally, they wouldn’t have been given accommodation.

Bit of a play on words there. Asylum seekers aren’t here legally, or they wouldn’t have to sneak in on dinghies. They’d just hop on a plane and be brought here. They are entering the country illegally. We currently don’t have a process in place where people can legally enter the country to claim asylum.

They will need to get 2 or 3 jobs to buy a house. Everyone else does it who has ambition. The only country in the world where you can get whatever you want as long as you have ambition to get a job and pay taxes.

Once more for the hard of thinking at the back: It is not illegal to enter the country via small boat and claim asylum.

Repeating it a million times doesn't make it true. Find a better soundbite, folks...

They don’t get evicted. They’re there, whatever their behaviour (unless criminal, in which case they’d be imprisoned or deported) until their asylum claim is granted or rejected.

If the journey is so horrific that they have to leave women and children behind to live in danger, why not go to a closer safe country, rather than come all the way to Europe?

Also plenty of white men are also immigrants.
