So family from a European first world country feels more comfortable housing European family from a neighbouring European first world country and feels less comfortable housing a single 24yr old male from Somalia that speaks Arabic only, comes from a less developed country on a different continent that has vastly different cultural norms and practices , and you think that's unusual?

Perhaps we should all ignore our safety instincts to be PC. Sure that'll help our sons, and moreso, daughters.

I’ll post this again.

My thoughts are they aren’t ‘illegal’ immigrants they are asylum seekers. The illegal immigrants disappear and don’t rock up telling the authorities where they are as the are here ILLEGALLY and be deported. Asylum seekers have a legal right to stay whilst their case is processed.

BustyLaRoux · 24/08/2025 12:16

Goldengirl123 · 24/08/2025 10:55

And they all seem to be young men

Rubbish. I work in a sector where we have contact with people in these situations and can assure you there are a great many women and children too. The conditions are awful.

PillarPansy · 24/08/2025 12:16

Parker231 · 24/08/2025 12:10

What’s your solution?

There are PLENTY of political solutions. Look at Australia, or Hungary or Poland, or Switzerland. It’s just that our government has no political will and REFUSES to solve the problem. Conspiracy theorists (though I am not one myself) actually believe it’s a deliberate policy of the British establishment for their own purposes.

SquishedMallow · 24/08/2025 12:16

whatasillygoose · 24/08/2025 12:12

Is this country too brown for you now?

All these ‘arguments’ about refugees are a flimsy smoke screen for racism and bigotry.

Oh utter utter nonsense. Absolute nonsense. Unless of course you think your brown skinned GP is the same as the boat people just because their skin colour is the same ? In fact your brown skinned GP is probably about as pissed off with it as the rest of us.

Disgustingly lazy and uneducated response.

PinkiOcelot · 24/08/2025 11:03

Perhaps all those people who are pro illegal immigrants, asylum seekers or whatever you want to call them, should put them up. Problem solved.

OP you’re right, they’re mostly all young men. Where are the women and children? Back home fighting?

The weather is turning now, I’m sure our homeless population would love to be put up in nice warm hotel with meals provided.

If you look at what some of the councils are saying as reasons for not having them in their area one that repeats is the pressure on schools. If it is all young men how does it affect schools? Or are you just buying into headlines saying it is all young men?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/08/2025 12:16

Goldengirl123 · 24/08/2025 10:54

It makes me very sad that we have our own homeless people and yet we are providing these people with a comfortable bed and food

The asylum hotel-hostels aren’t providing housekeeping and breakfast buffet and a lovely holiday experience.

The one near me is putting 6 people in a double room and provides a light breakfast in a paper bag. Skeleton staff. No housekeeping. No clean sheets or towels. No vending machine. No cook.

Bambamhoohoo · 24/08/2025 12:16

SquishedMallow · 24/08/2025 12:13

Oh my dear, there's plenty of countries before you get to us. There's a whole unsafe channel in the way you know ?

Is your thought train that they're coming here out of respect for the fact they are concerned about putting up the numbers in all those other countries before they get to us ? I'll house them for free if that's the case : what a selfless sacrifice they'd be making....

There is no nuance in your point- you have stated no one can explain why they don’t stop the first safe country. Not the second, third or forth, the first.

the fact that international law recognises that the first safe country could not cope with every AS stopping there is exactly why they DON’T HAVE TO DECLARE ASYLUM IN THE FIRST SAFE COUNTRY.

What are your thoughts?

OP, these immigrants are human beings who have taken deadly risks to flee their country because they are desperate to save their lives and make a safe new start for their families. For example, a gay person living in a country where being (or even appearing gay is illegal) may have to flee o their country for safety. Victims of horrible wars and corrupt governments where they have no choice but to leave in order just to meet their basic right for survival. When they get here, they more often than not have to share a tiny room with several other men. I supported a man in my job recently who lived in these circumstances, he was not able to work, he had no money to do anything, he sat cooped up in this tiny room all day desperate for an answer from the government. He had been in limbo for two years, he could not speak any English and he could not join a course or become a student due to his status, his children and wife waiting for him in his county. And the reason he fled his country you ask? He joined a protest that stood up to female violence. The police were after him because of that.

MissMoneyFairy · 24/08/2025 11:05

I do wonder where their children wives, sisters, mums, grandma are when they get left behind in unsafe countries, no one seems to care too much about them.

Grandmas and kids aren’t too great at trecking thousands of miles through dangerous countries, over mountains, across water, through forests before making their final crossing to the UK unfortunately. Plus the costs the incur to do so.

I'd really love to be this naive 🥹

Sadly economic migrants and a whole bunch of wrong uns are banking on people like you being there to greet them.

So what is it about this country you don’t recognise then? I don’t care what you think of my posts. I was being flippant but you don’t like being accused of racism. My view is that the arguments against immigration are at their core, racist.

If you could post some pics of the women and children on the boat arrivals ? Any statistics on how many are female and under 18 (the real under 18s)

The hotel near me houses families. Often without the father. It's also in quite a posh area so contrary to most of the crap spouted.
The hotel had been on the market for ages before it became asylum seeker accommodation because the owners couldn't get a high enough occupancy rate to make a profit.

What political solutions? The UK is a signatory to the ECHR so is limited on political options.

Trixibell1234 · 24/08/2025 12:21

We have a hotel in our town housing asylum seekers. People are protesting. I think I have seen approximately 7 rough sleepers in my town at any one time. I have lived here for ages and can’t ever remember anyone talking about the concerns for the homeless people here. The police have confirmed there has been no increase in crime and there have been no reports of crime being committed specifically by the asylum seekers. I think we’re all at as much risk from white British people as anyone. Any time I’ve felt unsafe around men I’m pretty sure they’ve always been white.

InfoSecInTheCity · 24/08/2025 11:55

I find this to be such a hugely ignorant comment and one that demonstrates the complete lack of logical thought and understanding that goes into this issue.

If you were living with your family in a country where you were at daily risk of death through war, famine, religious persecution etc. You had extremely limited means and were desperate for a solution for your family. Would you scrape together any money you could get hold of , which of these would you send:

  • your teenage daughter
  • ypur young twenties son
  • ypur elderly father
  • your whole family including children

Bearing in mind the journey will include smuggling yourself in using dangerous transport routes, sleeping rough and in refugee camps, affiliating yourself with strangers and hoping they can be trusted.

I would not want to send a single daughter, let’s be honest the chances of her making it without being physically or sexually assaulted are slim, I would not want to send an elderly or infirm family member as they would be likely to struggle, so yes the best choice is the single male relative in his 20s.

If your country was so dangerous you would all leave.
In Ukraine (actually at war) the women and children left and many men stayed. That's the difference.

The Ukrainian women and children managed it. .....their husbands, brothers, fathers and sons made sure of it, whilst they stayed to meet their grizzly set of circumstances...

I think you must be confusing me with someone else ?

purpleleotard2 · 24/08/2025 12:24

I welcome any migrant who has made the perilous journey to the UK as we are going into a demographic black hole, many more of old people and fewer working age to do the work and pay taxes
Generally they are here to work, will contribute to the economy, pay taxes and will be a positive benefit to UK plc
I have a migrant hotel close by and have had absolutely no problems except from the protesters.

countrygirl99 · 24/08/2025 12:25

The Ukrainians had a safe legal route.

ScarlettOYara · 24/08/2025 12:25

When people are economic migrants, the pattern is for the young men to go first, get a job and get into the system, then send money for the family to join them.
With refugees, they are all desperate to leave, so we find that women and children come as well. In my town there were Syrian refugees, who were families. The young single men turned out to be Albanian (in the main) and have been deported.
